This is a list of all the bigs we've offered, as far as I know. I've included Vanderbilt in the list because 1 site says we have an offer out to him. I've also included Knox even though he's listed as a SF because he's 6'8 and looks strong enough to slide to PF, if needed. Ditto for Wilkes even though he's cut us, just in case there's anyone who thinks he'll change his mind.

So far the guessing equally favors Washington, Stokes and someone who is yet to be offered.

Washington and Stokes would give us an unusually short front line for Carolina, but I like both of them. With Tony, we'll still have good height, but when he rests, we'll be pretty short.

We'd be more than fortunate to land just Washington & Stokes considering what we're looking at as far as offers right now. ESPN said Washington is at 6'9.

If we got those 2, We'd basically be looking at a potential roster similar to last years as far as size.

James - 6'10
Johnson - 6'9
Hicks 6'8
Maye - 6'8?

vs

Bradley 6'11?
Washington - 6'9
Stokes - 6'9
Maye 6'8

I know a lot of us are hoping for 3 bigs, but if 247 is right about Randolph leaning to UNC, I cant see us having room for more than 6 guys. Would rather take a fresh start in '18 than keep digging in an already tapped class.

I think if Randolph signs, unless the third big/sixth player in the class is Bamba/Carter/Knox, than Roy is not going to sign six players in the class. If we sign 6 in 2017, we would be out of ships for the 2018 class unless a player leaves early (NBA, transfer) or Maye gives up his ship for his senior year.

If Washington and Stokes are 6'9 instead of 6'7, that makes a difference. I still would be happy to have them at 6'7.

Yep, they're players and in the college game players are more important than inches.
Every year we see great players who're 6-7 or so dominate the low post in college, simply because their combination of strength and speed and the diluted talent pool in college hoops. It's unfortunate, but those guys rarely stick or thrive in the NBA.

For us to have "no offers", that would mean Bradley and Felton stay for 2 and 3 years, we do land a commitment from Randolph and 2 other bigs, likely Stokes & a 5 star either of Bamba or Washington, who would also stay at UNC for at least 2 years, and Shea Rush goes from walk on to scholarship.

Now I don't know about you, but I would be salivating over a team like this. This would be a classic killer Roy/UNC team with a huge combination of skill and experience.

This is also very unlikely to happen. Hence why I point it out.

Realistically, If we do land Randolph and Stokes and everyone on the team to that point doesn't leave early/transfer, this leaves us with 1 open offer for 2018. Best case scenario, Roy offers it to a couple talented bigs, or Hamilton or Williamson commit. This team also looks dangerously good.

So in short, If Roy can finish off he 2017 class so that we wouldn't need another overhaul in 2018, I firmly believe he will do so. We've already secured a strong position with the Black & White combo, and should we have another open offer, have some decent options we can take in 2018 to fill it up.

Considering our recent track record with playing waiting game, it'd be a bad decision to wait on recruits in 2018 if we have the chance to pull in guys ready to commit and play.

Most had Stokes listed at 6'9. Only seen Washington at 6'7.

But measurements are rarely updated from what I've seen, which makes Them much less accurate. Thanks to many sources, Rechon Black is somewhere between 6'3 and 6'8...

The height on ESPN was reported live By Biancardi at the event they played in. So His height may actually be 6'9 now.

FWIW 24/7 sports is reporting that a package deal of PJ and a kid by the name of John Petty is "very possible". KY and Kansas are the only two schools that both have in common as top recruits

Just passing along some info I read today

Pretty sure you misread my entire post because you have the team signing 5 players in the 2017 class (Randolph, Stokes and a five star big), when my post is about if we were to sign 6 players in the class (3 bigs and Randolph), since there are several posters who seem to prefer signing 3 bigs, and this thread is about bigs in the 2017 class. If we sign 5 in 2017 than we still have at least one ship available for 2018, and I would agree that does not include possible NBA departures. I would be very happy with a class of Felton/Platek/Randolph/Stokes/Washington, and we have 5 ships for this class (Hicks/Meeks/White/Britt and one left over from last year since we only signed three players). Sure Jackson is probably leaving after this year and in theory we could have 6 players in the class, but again I dont think we sign 6 unless the player is a Bamba or Knox.

No, i read your post in its entirety and gave you a scenario in which we could end up with one or even no offers. The semantics were just off by one offer, but the point still stands, which objects to you saying Roy wouldn't take a 6 man class. If Roy could pull off a 6 man class with the offers he currently has, regardless if it's Randolph + 3 bigs or some other combination, there is no reason why he would not and should not do so.

Now this assumes Roy doesn't suddenly go left field and offers a 2 * Big Godknowswhere, USA. Any choice from the list of offers that could equate to 4 commitments would . Regardless of how many here want 3 bigs.

It could happen. Just not likely is all I'm saying.

Couple things here, I think if we get a wing like Randolph then we will not get 3 big men, I think it is simply a wing & 2 bigs or 3 bigs. Now Justin & Joel could leave after the coming season, not sure I am betting they both will but think it is safe to say 1 will. I personally think Justin is the more likely to leave and that opens up a wing spot scholly.

I liked Wilkes because to me he was a future power forward, at very least a guy that could handle the 4, I see Knox in a similar way but one is already out of our picture and the other is not expected. I am a little less thrilled with Randolph because not sure I see him as a guy that can swing down to the 4, he is more a Justin like wing than a Theo. We could be in a situation where we have no choice but to start Theo at the 4 as a senior if we do not get a power forward ready to step in and produce from this class.

Now how much a Randolph would help us with Bamba, good question IMO, it really could.
