Post Game Thoughts

I agree with the last few posts. I've been critical of play calling for last couple of seasons and still want to see a change over the off season. But I thought the game was called well last night. The best screen passes of the year for sure. Not sure who deserves the credit but there is credit due.

I cannot be positive, but I'm fairly certain Fedora has called the plays the past two games. It hasn't been confirmed anywhere, and he'd never throw his assistants under the bus and say he is, but every single time the camera cuts to him, he's got the playsheet and is talking into the mic and covering his mouth with the playsheet.

He's either calling the plays or he's giving a "yes/no" to each play that comes through.

I think you're right TarHeelNation. It does look different than before and it looks better.

Lets hope so. And if that's the case lets also hope that becomes a permanent change. If he's actually calling the plays then I don't care who the OC is.

You are outside of your mind. Fedora made countless calls last night that won us the game.
- going for it on the 4th and 1 in the first half rather than playing it safe
- letting Freeman attempt that 51-yarder in the first half
- the screen call on the first play of our final drive

I'm not gonna list them all. My word, people, Fedora WON the game for us last night. We put up 34 points on a Pat Narduzzi defense.

No no no lol, let's not rehash the Marquise - Mitch thing for the millionth time.

Play calling was much better last night. However, that is their job. and I can assure you that Fedora didn't win us anything last night. If you want to use the rationale that Fedora wins and loses us games, then let's get rid of the injury excuses, etc and let's go that route to evaluate his success and failures.

Also, you reference that with Elliott we have full use of the playbook, that is still far from the truth as Fedora has said himself. Elliott is still limited physically in terms of what he can do and how he can stretch the field with his arm. He has however shown to be a better game manager and slightly better making decisions in the game in comparison to the other empty jerseys we have seen this year at QB. The "fast kid" in the "slow class" analogy works here. Just because he's better than what we have right now doesn't make him good. I like Elliott and think he should be given credit for improved play but he's still not the type of player that will get us above the hump of mediocrity at best. We beat a below average Pitt team for which I'm thankful, but let's put it into perspective. Hell when you come into a game with 1 win, you'll take a win against anybody.

I cannot continue reading after this paragraph because you don't really make sense. You can assure me Fedora didn't win us anything last night? I guess I imagined we won the game. I guess I imagined we had great plays called (and executed them) all night.

I was proud of how hard this team kept fighting last night! Especially after losing yet another 4th quarter lead. Gotta give Fedora and the staff some credit for that right?
Play calling - how can you not say the staff called a good game last night?! I feel like the offense had them guessing a good bit. Mixed up the run/pass pretty well (32-32 iirc). Also made some very timely calls; ARW TD pass, 4th and 1, and the 1st down screen pass on the last drives. I thought they did a good job with ARW. They could have easily kept feeding him, but instead used other players (6 other players caught passes) to mix things up. I also think they did good with Elliot. Gave him a couple easier throws to get his confidence going, then let him throw a couple deep balls. On defense we had a rough time stopping the run again. But the team was able to put them in a passing situation and the defense completely shut them down! They only completed 2 passes in the final 2 drives and had 2 sacks. I was impressed.

Obviously it's a rough year. But I'm very happy with the performance last night, from coaches to players. Everyone earned that victory last night!

Go Heels!!

Weird post. You say Elliot is so-so and mention injuries, then we execute the offense, make plays and no credit is given to the coaches. Who put that so-so QB and the injury riddled wr/te corp in place to hookup?

Re read my post goobers. First sentence clearly states play calling was much better (that’s obciously to the coaches credit). I don’t however think fedora won us the game. I think it was our kids just getting out a win and a whole lot of ARW all over the field making plays for us. Simply proving a point that some people want to give Fedora credit for wins but not losses when it’s convenient.

Let's unpack this. Some posters are saying we can't blame Fed for losses because of the fact that we've lost an entire starting lineup worth of players.

That being the case also means that any win is more impressive because of those circumstances. So it makes perfect sense to give him credit for winning with a decimated roster, and not blame him for losing with one.

I'll put it like this- if fed won 8 games with this amount of injuries he should be coach of the yr.

So your sentiment is that you feel that players finally made plays, therefore they get more credit? I could see some of that surrounding the QB.

give the coaches credit for getting the team ready to play when they could have mailed it in.
these players haven't given up yet.
