The percentage has been increasing steadily and now we sit at a projected Saturday Atlanta forecast of 90% rain, high/low of 60/58, and 12mph wins.

I could be wrong, but I happen to think this is a perfect weather forecast for Georgia Tech and an absolutely lousy one for us. It looked as though we had a lot of ball-carrying issues last week due to rain. Hopefully we get that cleaned up, but even if we do, common sense tells you that it's more difficult to throw/catch the ball in the rain than it is when it's dry.

What do y'all think the impact of a rainy, soggy days going to be? Does it favor GT as much as I'm fearing, or do you disagree? I guess defensively we should absolutely try to take away the dive and force Thomas to pitch and hope like hell for a couple fumbles -- Tech did put it on the ground a few times last week against Duke in the rain. And offensively, lots and lots of Hood and Logan. In the passing game, I'd say we go with safe short passes and go with long bombs which are easier to catch....the mid-range passing game may be challenging (well, especially given the starting QB but yeah). Thoughts?

I used to think that rain made it easier to run and harder to throw. But over the last few years, I've started to change my thinking on this. Here's why.

WRs catch balls. They catch them in hot weather, cold weather, dry weather and wet weather. The gloves they wear make it hard to NOT catch the damn ball. So I don't see us dropping balls that we normally catch just because it's rainy. So IMO, what the wet conditions truly effect is the ability of the players to cut on wet turf. But offensive players know when and where they're going to make their cuts so they're more prepared for them. It's the defensive players that have to react late, and that's when the wet conditions will really come into play.

So, with that thought process, wouldn't you agree that a defender is going to have a harder time sticking on a WR that's making cuts in the open field at full speed than a defender that's attempting to fill a hole to stop a RB before he has built up speed?

I think we're going to see a lot of our guys getting wide open on Saturday. I could see the Switzblade playing a huge role. Mack too. We just need to be accurate throwing the ball.

But I do agree that our defense should attempt to force the pitch.

Weather can also impact tackling... defensive players also have to cut when a receiver or running back cuts... the impact is two fold. If the rain is like they are predicting..its a toss up although I'm leaning slightly toward a GT edge because it slows down our offense I think.

Been checking StubHub every day to watch the prices. They're certainly dropping. I'm still up in the air. If it was a game in Chapel Hill and I had already driven all that way, I'd obviously just go and suck it up about sitting in the rain.

But for this game, I'm not sure yet. They've never won in Atlanta when I've been there. It's still TBD. What about you @gteeitup ?

middle child has a stomach bug so i'm home today with him...if i can get something done tomorrow before saturday, and my gatech buddy wants to roll down there, i will.

the thought of sitting in the rain like in 2013 doesn't make me happy though...however, the uniforms we are wearing may tip the scales.

I went to the game in 2013 and it rained in Atlanta that year. I was sitting on the very last row in the upper deck... back to the wall... no umbrella.. just my NC cap and NC t-shirt... stayed til the end... My daughter is going.. she got tickets from school..

I'm making the drive from the pan handle. Anyone that has made the trip before have any advice for parking and such? Haven't visited Atlanta since the Peach Bowl.

I actually love Bobby Dodd Stadium and have been to a slew of games there. Kinda counter-intuitive but since I live in Atlanta and have UNC season tickets, I'm already driving up there every other week or so for games.....so when the Heels come here to play, I just have a strong urge to watch them on TV instead of buying more tickets and stuff.

Still though, I was going to take my dad to this game since he doesn't get up to Chapel Hill much anymore, but he told me he isn't "sitting in a dang downpour, save that money for beer." So there you go

Really though, based on my StubHub checking, looks like Carolina will have a decent smattering of folks there -- I've had my eye on several seat locations in the UNC section and a good few of them have sold in the last couple days. I'm working on the assumption that it's Carolina folks buying seats in that location.

There's enough parking near the stadium, but like Chapel Hill, it's a bunch of smaller lots spaced all around. You'll probably have to walk a few blocks, but it shouldn't be too, too terrible. Not any great spots to tailgate really, from my experience.

If MARTA is your thing, there's a stop near the stadium -- but I'd avoid MARTA

Yep your right..avoid Marta. In 2013 I had to park down W. Marietta St.. in a business parking lot and pray that my car didn't get towed. It was about a 10-15 minute walk which wasn't bad until the game was over and it was pouring raining. To get closer you will need to be there an hour before game time. I think I may watch the game at home. We are undefeated this season when I watch it at home. Go out to watch it and South Carolina happens..

rain could wreak havoc on Georgia Tech's pitches from QB to RB's and I think it will be harder for backs to turn up field. If both ball carrier and defender slip and fall the play is over. Straight ahead will be affected much less , but we will see. I think receivers will have an advantage to some degree because they know where they are going. Weather will keep the over down.

The weather folks are pushing the rain amounts and potential for flooding here in WNC, the western piedmont and especially eastern piedmont are supposed to get a great deal of rain. Weather guy described it as "devastating" rain for the middle part of the state. WNC was 2" now changed to 2"-4", parts of the piedmont 6"-8" and some places more than 12"...
Now as to Atlanta, it looks like they may get rain but not the torrential downpours we may get in NC. I'm a bit like CokeforRoy, I'm keeping us undefeated from my chair.

Agreed. I think it should hurt option running more than it hurts a passing game. I think it should hurt DBs more than WRs.

I went to the South Carolina game and live 18 miles from Panther Stadium....and the Heels lost the only game I wanted to win all year so I will sit with my Father in law the GT grad and have him explain to me for like the 17/20 time how the Heels are to dumb to stop GT...

Just a little something positive. We are 2-0 in the rain this year. No excuses. If we lose I don't want to hear people blaming it on the rain. GO HEELS!!!!!! Plus it suppose to stop here in Va. SW Va. Early Sat nite. So since the storm is moving basically from the SW. The heavy rain should be over by 330. But don't take my word on it . Not a weatherman. Maybe Nation will know since he lives in or around ATL.

We haven't gotten a lick of rain since Wednesday. It's been cloudy the whole time, but no rain except for an occasional 10 minute drizzle.

But what do they say as far as it stopping. Or what time do they expect it to stop.

They expect it to rain all day Saturday but I don't think it'll be heavy. Calling for 1/2'' in total, so it will probably be just intermittent drizzle. It'll be windy and a bit cool though.

Man I'm still so tempted to buy tickets....they are getting to be dirt cheap at this point. Could be in the 2nd row of the upper deck along the goalline (still kinda the UNC section) for $27 a pop

You should go especially if you can take a subway or something and not having to pay for parking. So it won't cost you to much. But I am looking forward to a weekend off myself. To sit at home and just watch some football.

Hey that's what I'm looking forward to as well lol. Going to home games in Kenan is awesome but it's also a grind if you live far away like we do.

I wouldn't take Marta because it doesn't run NW up to Cobb. I'd probably just Uber there and back. Wouldn't be very expensive on a Saturday afternoon.

Have no idea about the subway system. Never been to The ATL

You aren't missing anyyyyyyything. I would trade you and live in SW Virginia in a heartbeat.
I love the country life here my friend. So much easier life. I grew up and lived most of my life in Hampton Roads. Except the 4 years between basically Germany and Oklahoma when I was in the Army.

One day, I'll make the country life happen. Most of my family in North Carolina live in small agriculture towns, and I always love visiting them. So much more peaceful.

I'm lucky. I have a ok paying job. Working for Cintas. Which is a good job for a small town in which I live. Times can become tight at times. But that's because of me trying to live beyond my means at times. But better of than many. But good jobs are just hard to find in small towns.

not even a game time decision for me, i'm not going.

can't justify leaving the wife and kids here before this "biblical" rain storm...gonna stay here and get really hammered, get really critical on thb, and enjoy the win.

$27??? You got me thinking.... btw.. anyone know where the team is staying here in Atlanta? I wouldn't mind seeing them off before they leave for the game tomorrow. I believe there in route to the ATL now.
