It’s like intentionally starting a huge forest fire then wanting credit for serving lemonade to the first responders
Lots of stuff is talking about the River District in asheville, check this vid from across town, showing what is likely peak height on the Swannanoa. Ignore the text about 5 stories, but still.
That's here https://www.google.com/maps/place/387+Swannanoa+River+Rd,+Asheville,+NC+28805
yep, that will wind up a Chipotle or First Watch. That’s right in the middle of Biltmore. Asaka had some solid hibachi. That’s one of many local family owned places that will probably never come back.
I heard Brevard didn't have as much damage as some areas (all relative though). My buddy up in Boone finally got about 2-3 dozen pics come through via text... been trying since Monday.
It's beyond words. The really scary/sad part is the missing people stuck out in hollers and long driveways, off of remote roads themselves. It will be years before this starts to resemble what it used to be... if ever.
Downtown Hendersonville and Brevard are two of my favorite places in western NC. I dunno what's left of them.
Folks, donate anything you can. There are so many donation locations around the upstate. They're flying/helicopter everything imaginable. Diapers, water, non-perishable food, paper towels, everything.
HopefullyI heard Brevard didn't have as much damage as some areas (all relative though).
That’s it

Damn... that will give you some perspective! Sorry to hear that. Thank goodness for his brother. That is trauma that they will carry forever.Talked last night to a life long friend who lives in black mtn. He had two acres with a creek. Within one hour the creek you could step over was up to his roof top. He and his wife and dogs had to scramble to the roof not knowing if the water was gonna keep rising. They were stuck for 6 hours watching homes and cars and animals getting swept by. They rescued a racoon that sat with them. They could feel the house swaying. Then when water went down they saw they had 4 ft of mud in it. Their cars were gone. Their horse, chickens, and ducks all gone. They hiked out a couple miles to find help. Some firemen picked them up and fed them. Now they’re staying at a school that’s a shelter until his brother can get through and take them to his place.
That was the resource we waited for the longest back in 1989, with Hugo... WATER! We had the phones working the next day... electricity in about 3-4 days. 2 1/2 weeks without water. We would fill water jugs with water from the pool at the apt. complex, for the toilet tank.A few schools in Asheville are drilling their own damn water wells, cuz they're afraid they won't have running water for weeks at the soonest. That's insane.
Kids are actually going to look forward to school though!
@uncboy10 how hard is it to get water for a household, for the folks without water yet? Like can you get enough to use "solar showers", or it is only enough for drinking & scrubbing some dishes?

that was excellent, just the overview I've been wanting to see. Of course I know it's nothing like when the water was at its high mark. Good find. This guy's channel is great! This has me wanting to see what it would cost to try this hobby for real.
Now, I see just how the whole mess happened. That is not a good place to be when the water falls out of the sky the way it did!
His footage day of... like kayaking to his hanger was pretty interesting too. This guy's channel is great! This has me wanting to see what it would cost to try this hobby for real.

I think maybe see heelmanwilm's post regarding this on the politics thread. You might ask him for clarification but I don't think it is the doing of conspiracy theorists as much as just a native attitude that runs through those parts. They’ve apparently had to relocate FEMA personnel and temporarily pause some of their support operations because of dipshit conspiracy theorists threatening them.

The actions you refer to were precautionary over an e-mail of unknown credibility, not the result of any direct confrontation, at least not as I've seen reported. I'm not trying to minimize anything, people there to help need to be helped in that effort, and not hindered.
