Why..? Because he was born in Omaha?Richt would of been perfect for The Nebraska job last year.. But he didn't entertain the opportunity.

I think Franklin St. had tongue firmly in cheek. No offense, but I'm shocked at some of y'all being glad we didn't hire Mark Richt. We'd be a Top 15 program year in and year out.
i think that's exactly what i was saying. please re-read my post in which i point out that unc fans were comfortable with dean smith's Christianity because he didn't proseletze. devout doesn't mean "trumpeting." look it up.just as unc fans were comfortable with a devout Christian named dean smith
absolutely incorrect.
jimmy, you may want to stop re-writing Carolina history, Dean did not come blowing into CH as some heavy devout type Christian. He taught by example. Dean may have had certain beliefs but he was never trumpeting them all about publicly as some fools do today.
he's barely done that at georgia, what makes you sure he's be that effective at UNC? advantages at georgia include greater football heritage, the best conference for recruiting, and one of the best states in the country for recruiting. i'm not saying he wouldn't be successful at UNC, but you don't know for sure that he would. one of the things that has kept unc out of the top 15 year after year is the fallout from african american studies. would richt have solved that problem before it blew up?No offense, but I'm shocked at some of y'all being glad we didn't hire Mark Richt. We'd be a Top 15 program year in and year out.
he could have fielded worse teams at carolina and still make the top 15 because of the lack of competition.he's barely done that at georgia, what makes you sure he's be that effective at UNC? advantages at georgia include greater football heritage, the best conference for recruiting, and one of the best states in the country for recruiting. i'm not saying he wouldn't be successful at UNC, but you don't know for sure that he would. one of the things that has kept unc out of the top 15 year after year is the fallout from african american studies. would richt have solved that problem before it blew up?
maybe, maybe not. your guess is as good as mine re: what might have been.he could have fielded worse teams at carolina and still make the top 15 because of the lack of competition.
lol, come on, you can think harder than that...Why..? Because he was born in Omaha?
Nebraska fans and administrators want a coach they at least can feel is a Good Guy. That's central to how and why Mike Riley got the job. Richt is definitely a Good Guy.Why..? Because he was born in Omaha?
Your history is off. We have suffered from AFAM only since 2010. The program began suffering, in a big way, when Dean Smith's Boy, Dick Baddour, chose Carl Torbush to replace Mack Brown. That stupid decision was compounded by Baddour choosing John Bunting. It was then that Mark Richt was very interested in the UNC job. The 6 years of Bunting preceded by the 3 years of Torbush took the program down to horribly low depths, depths we only now are beginning to escape.he's barely done that at georgia, what makes you sure he's be that effective at UNC? advantages at georgia include greater football heritage, the best conference for recruiting, and one of the best states in the country for recruiting. i'm not saying he wouldn't be successful at UNC, but you don't know for sure that he would. one of the things that has kept unc out of the top 15 year after year is the fallout from african american studies. would richt have solved that problem before it blew up?
If we could go to the day Bunting was hired and replace that hire with Richt and start over from there would anybody take that revisionist theory of a situation? I sure would. There would have never been a John Blake.Your history is off. We have suffered from AFAM only since 2010. Richt is able to draw so much talent that it seems to me it should be next to impossible for anyone to think it possible that he could have failed, at the same time FSU began spiraling down and Clemson could not get over the hump and Miami kept underachieving, to revive UNC and position the program to win the ACC. Richt at UNC would have made the Coastal race one between UNC and VT, until Beamer began going over the hill.
Most people who leave the "cold and dreary" states and come south will not return to where they came from for love or money (unless it's a lot of money)Why..? Because he was born in Omaha?
There are many high school jobs that are better than the Nebraska head coaching job. Awful job.lol, come on, you can think harder than that...
No only is Richt a Good Coach and Real Good Recruiter, the biggest thing that he is a Good Guy that fitted their culture. With exception to Frank Solich, who in hindsight, Nebraska probably regrets letting go, Bill Callahan ,and Bo Pelini, didn't fit the "Nebraska way" when it came with dealing with Fans, Boosters, and how they conducted themselves on the sidelines, press conferences, etc.
i'm not referring to the point when we got caught five years ago but the point when the academic fraud was perpetrated. university-sponsored investigations revealed that over 18 years—from 1993 through 2011—some 3,100 students took “paper classes” with no faculty oversight and no actual class attendance. almost half the students enrolled in the phony courses were athletes. i don't think it mattered who the coach was -- carolina football was cruisin' for a bruisin'.Your history is off. We have suffered from AFAM only since 2010.....

#1 problem with Nebraska ...it's in Nebraska.Seriously? How so? definitely not awful.. Maybe not the High Profile Job that it used to be, Nebraska offers
Arguably a top 10 Fan Base in the nation
Arguably top 10 facilities in the nation
Their Recruiting budget is like top 5 in the nation
Their Coaching salaries are very competitive
It's so great, yet Papuchis and Warren bolted to UNC, a school with much less football history and fan support. I'm just saying.Seriously? How so? definitely not awful.. Maybe not the High Profile Job that it used to be, Nebraska offers

While I agree, you simply cannot base a coach firing/retention based off a recruit. Eason could very well be a star; he could also be a bust. You just don't know.Georgia needs to think long and hard before firing Mark Richt because they have a commitment from the best HS QB prospect in some time. Jacob Eason from Washington state has been committed for some time and could possibly sign anyway but Florida is already sniffing around. Eason is 6'5" 200 lbs. with a big arm the type of QB that can take the talent Georgia already has to a NC. The Georgia QB job was in such bad shape that Greyson Lambert who couldn't even win the UVa. job transferred in and won the QB competition. Eason has the highest rating ever given to a QB on 247.
Yes a lot of shat flying around and I think a couple of players suspensions maybe. The QB situation just made UGa. easy to defend for good defenses (those other than SoCar). They just didn't have anybody who could stretch the field. If he loses the UK game could get ugly. While I agree, you simply cannot base a coach firing/retention based off a recruit. Eason could very well be a star; he could also be a bust. You just don't know.
Meanwhile, the rails have come off completely in Athens. Rumors were flying today about DC Jeremy Pruitt (who's a POS) leaving effective immediately to take a different job. Mark Richt had to take to twitter to assure everyone that Pruitt was still the UGA DC. Also, USA Today came out with a piece stating that UGA AD Greg McGarity tried to replace Richt after last season (McGarity denies this).
Pruitt may be the next Hot thing as DC, but he indeed seems to be quite self-serving and impatient to get his name on the largest billboard. I don't think he can be good for most staffs in terms of unity. While I agree, you simply cannot base a coach firing/retention based off a recruit. Eason could very well be a star; he could also be a bust. You just don't know.

It's a lousy job and gets lousier with each passing year. Just my opinion! Agree to disagree
1. I am taking about Head Coaching Opportunity, you are comparing it with assistants
2. I wouldn't call it bolting, Warren was retained as DB coach, Papuchis was not as DC.
3 .Most retained coaches have one foot out the door looking for opportunities with guys they have experience with and schemes they trust
3.. I am not saying its the greatest Job ever, but its not awful like you seem to think
lol, when was this? please elaborateosbourne was ready to leave for carolina.
it ain't that great either.
It seems to be a less obviously top job each year, but it is far from 'lousy.'It's a lousy job and gets lousier with each passing year. Just my opinion! Agree to disagree
