If anyone on this board thinks the Heels will seamlessly transition from Roy to another future HOF coach who'll be at UNC for another 20+ years then please let me know next weeks lotto numbers.
Historically every program has suffered in the wake of a 'legend's retirement. Sure, you can point to Gut and say he kept on doing what Dean did, but the reality is, his recruitment suffered and he retired soon after leaving a mess of a roster (not the only reason for 8-20 but a factor) UCLA after Wooden, Indiana after Knight, etc etc. The only school that's maintained winning ways after a big departure in recent times was Kansas after Roy left.
So I agree, it'd be lovely for the traditions to continue, it'd be lovely for the winning to continue, it'd be extra lovely for both to occur, but I'm just going to enjoy the Roy years as much as I can because the odds are there'll be some turmoil once he's gone.
