Getting our hopes up for Giles is just setting us up to be let down. There is still probably a 5-10% chance he comes to UNC, please keep that in perspective.
This sentence makes little sense since Giles would be gone by the time DeLaurier "would" transfer. So it's kind of a moot point.

A very respected guy in the know (has a 99% hit ratio on UNC/Duke recruit battles) says Giles is a heavy lean to Duke as of yesterday. Anyone Duke signs at his position has to understand that they have NO CHANCE of starting at the 4 with Giles there. If they expect otherwise, it's on them.
Cory, I don't think the Duke fans will ever get over the Barnes recruitment. Those fans were really hurt and K really had a hard time accepting it. I think if Giles was to make a change in direction and choose the Heels it may have a similar effect. Barnes has an NBA ring and really represents UNC well. Does Duke currently have in the NBA any players with Barnes combination of character, intellect and skills?
I agree with you Cory and Steat about how Duke fans took the Barnes announcement. We don't like him because he spurned us, not because he announced on Skype or led us to believe he was going to Durham >> It's the same thing as people saying they don't like Lebron because of The Decision. That's BS, they don't like him because he doesn't play for their team.
I also agree that Giles going to UNC would have a very similar effect. Although not quite as bad considering the recent success Duke has had.
But its hard to answer your question regarding players with a combination of character, intellect, and skills because those are all highly subjective. But Duke has 4 players in the NBA who have been selected to multiple all star games (Brand, Boozer, Deng, Irving). UNC has only one player who has ever made an allstar game (Carter). Duke has 5 NBA Sportsmanship Winners. UNC has zero. I don't think its even a debate that Kyrie Irving is a better player than Barnes. He has 3 all star games and an all star MVP. He was the #1 pick in the draft and he has received a max contract. You can compare their stats which aren't even close. And I haven't seen anything to say he has less character or intelligence. Jabari Parker is another high character guy with astronomical potential. Also, there are a few guys that just got drafted this year you might want to keep your eye on.

You make some good points. I will say this, Barnes is playing in a system that does not require him to put up 25 pts a game. Can he average 20 pts a game for another team? ...sure he can! . His unselfishness played a major part in Golden State getting a title. Kyrie thus far is injury-prone and it remains to be seen if he will completely recover from the injury (i.e Derrick Rose). One thing I can say about Vince Carter and most will agree, is that he is the only one of Brand, Boozer, and Deng that will ever make the NBA Hall of fame. There is talk that Irving may miss the entire upcoming season. Kyrie Irving is a better player than Barnes right now, but if the powers to be wanted a former player to represent the UNC in the Board Room for major corporation I don't think many would be upset with Barnes. Kyrie Irving representing Duke in the Board Room of a major corporation? (other than a shoe company). Nope, Irving can't touch Barnes in intellect and character.
