Ryder Cup

I don't know a straight guy that owned any boy band CD.

I am told by informed sources that the "motivational speaker" last night at the team dinner was...………………….……………….. Coach K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vader himself!!!:eek::eek:
I think that happened a couple of weeks ago before Finau was added to the team.

Phil is a captain's nightmare. I heard this firsthand from Sutton at a dinner a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure Watson agrees.
/

I want more detail on this. The younger guys seem to love him and view him as a mentor. I guess Captains could feel upstaged by Phil but do you believe he purposely does that or it happens organically?

He said Phil basically tells the captain how he wants things done and pouts and makes a lot of noise and causes fracture within the team when things aren't done his way. Phil is really analytical and wants to know who he's playing with and when and what kind of ball, etc. He said the alternate shot thing is very difficult for someone like Phil. He also lit up about Phil's scathing comments about Watson after the last loss over there. Said Tom, though he made big mistakes in how he communicated with the players, simply couldn't do anything to make him happy and Phil caused serious division within that 2014 team. No love lost for sure.

Phil and DeChambeau will be either a really good or really bad pairing. I heard Phil was practicing with DeChambeau's Bridgestone ball type yesterday. Both being so analytical may be a fit, who knows.

I'm amazed that with that reputation abound, that he was even picked to be on this team . . I truly do appreciate your sharing of the insight behind the scenes that few of us would have heard JC . . but, why . . ? Why bring a man on board to this team that is a known disrupter of chemistry when there were so many other opportunities . . ?

Phil has not had that great of a year has he to be a Captain's pick or has he . . ?

I dunno, color me confused as to why the 25th ranked player in 2018 was chosen . . I don't follow the week to week golf that some do on this board, so, if, I'm out of place here in questioning the why & how he was picked then please excuse my ignorance.

I'm also pretty sure that another regular on this board probably knows more than me about how this all works...haha.

Not sure who that person may be . . seems to me that you are as dialed in, and even further, are more informed than most because of the circles that you are evidently a big part of.
Hope you have a great weekend of golf . . ! Again, I want to voice my gratitude for your sharing of info that few have so likely heard.

Please give us a report back on your wknd of golf . . . TIA.

I really don't know squat...other than what I heard at a dinner attended by over 200 players in a national mid-am event two years ago.

Isn't that closer than what most of the OOTBers are included, except, and I do commend @keysersosay#1, as I know firsthand that he has some serious connections to the PGA world as we know it.

I'm a Phil fan too!

There is a great story from my club in Houston, Champions GC, that Phil came to town to work with 1957 Masters and PGA Champ Jack Burke a few years ago on his putting. Phil waited out on the putting green and sent word to the shop that he was here. Mr. Burke waited in his office and sent word back out that he was waiting in his office for Phil. The standoff lasted a half hour or so. Don't know who gave in...but the lesson started with Mr. Burke putting 10 balls around the hole in a circle at a putter length out and challenged Phil to make 100 in a row. Phil looked at him and said "That's not going to help me, I can do that now!" They bet dinner. Phil started putting and missed the fourth one. He said "Double or nothing" and Mr. Burke replied "No, I can't eat that much."

Phil evidently personally tipped everyone in that clubhouse when he left.

Awesome story, JC . . I for one, appreciate the share.

phil just learned how to tip, seriously.

now he’s playing with someone else balls...great

maybe he’ll go practice 3 woods on another course.

Hope Furyk doesn’t have to answer a lot of questions about splitting up the pairing of Speith/Reed from previous competition

Phil and Spieth for that matter are not exactly in top form, but as gentle Ben said at Brookline...I got a good felling about this.

US RETAINS the cup 14-14

Exactly where I was going. The interesting part will be watching how it happens. Who rises to the occasion? Who falters in the clutch?

3-1 USA in the AM matches . . great start for the good guys.

This afternoon will be interesting. Foursomes is usually where Europe owns us.

...and when everyone thought Tiger would be the ceremonial pick, it appears that Phil is. His game is in bad shape.

El Tigre and reed get beat by 3 straight bombs from the EUROS on the final 3 holes, otherwise a sweep for the USA. Looks like a very interesting gaff course... should be a very fun weekend

WOW . . I step out for a 2 hour walk and come back to a freaking disaster . . what happened to Mickelson & DeChambeau ? Did these 2 suck it up that badly.

Looks like we're gonna lose all 4 matches this afternoon. Ugghh.
