Excellent scary movie. Its not over the top and totally nonsensical like so many are today.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Triple 9

Good shoot em up action thriller. Compares well to the departed
⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hail caesar

Love the coen brothers but this is horrid
⭐️

Deadpool

Humor, hot babe, good action. I liked it
⭐️⭐️⭐️

Finest hours

Waste of two hours
⭐️

10 cloverfield ln

Awesome. Lots of plot twists. U think u have it figured out and it takes a right turn.
⭐️⭐️⭐️

The big short

Dont understand the good reviews. Boring as hell and i was genuinely interested in the financial
Machinations. Mehhh
⭐️⭐️

Wild- with Reese Witherspoon... intense movie

All The Way- HBO film about LBJ and the Civil Rights Bill.

Watched The Intern with the wife last wknd, great movie . .
DeNiro is his usual good self in this one.

The Martian is very entertaining . . 2 and a half hours long.

Wild and Imitation Game are both excellent movies, as mentioned previously . .

Imitation Game reveals just how pivotal Alan Turing was to the outcome of the Second World War. From the European Theater perspective, he and his team shortened it by years!

Of the movies mentioned in this thread, I've seen the following

I actually enjoyed Hail Caesar, it's not my favorite Coen Brothers movie by any stretch, but I thought it was a fun time. For whatever reason, I tend to enjoy movies about movies. I loved Deadpool, been waiting on that one for a while, and I thought they did a great job with the character (unlike what they did in X-Men Origins: Wolverine). I laughed quite a bit when I saw that one. I also liked The Big Short, I personally thought how they presented the story was very entertaining. I enjoyed the cast and how they worked together. As for the other ones you mentioned, I head 10 Cloverfield Lane was good, I'd like to check it out. The others I don't have a ton of desire to see.

I thought this movie was great. Benedict Cumberbatch gave such a great performance. I've been so impressed with him as an actor lately, and this movie was a prime example.

The Martian is very entertaining . . 2 and a half hours long.
I really enjoyed this movie and book. Matt Damon played this character so well, was able to bring laughs and tears to the movie, really impressed with his performance here. The supporting cast was also very solid.

fantastic four- still, huh??
Ah, the movie with the most wasted potential this side of Batman v. Superman: Fant4stic, which is how I will refer to this movie that way for all time since they were dumb enough to use it on the po(a)sters. Seriously, you have promising actors like Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, and Kate Mara, and you can't make a better movie than this? Just a major disappointment.

As for other movies I've seen lately, I saw Popstar a week or two ago, thought it was really funny. If you like the Lonely Island guys, you should like this movie. I saw the latest X-Men movie, thought it was good, not quite as good as the previous 2 X-Men movies (3 if you count Deadpool) but it was a solid time, imo. I'm planning to see Finding Dory this weekend. Pixar usually hits the mark, I think they'll do that with this one.

@heelz2345 how much money would you estimate you spend in movie theaters annually (including concessions)? It's understandable if you don't want to think about it for fear of getting sad.
I've never really thought about it, but I can work an estimate up. I would say an average trip costs approximately 20 bucks (roughly $8 for a ticket and $12 on concessions; I live in a pretty rural area) and I probably go about twice a month (that number is little more in the summer, but less in months like October that fall between the blockbusters and the Oscar contenders) so let's say 40 bucks a month. Then do that times 12, so that comes out to an estimate of $480 a year. This is just sort of a rough figure, because I know I go a lot so I take advantage of stuff like the refillable popcorn bucket which gives you cheaper refills and the rewards programs so every time I spend money, I get points which turn into free tickets/concessions. I do miss the days of being at Carolina and being able to see movies on the cheap at the Varsity or for free at the Union.

You're gonna hate me but I never stepped foot in the Varsity while at Carolina.

Honestly, it's not the greatest theater. I know that it's historic and everything so I appreciate it on that level, but it's not my ideal place to go. The main draw for me was seeing movies for cheap that I didn't get a chance to see during their first run.

I hardly ever go to the theater. I've probably been 5 times in the last 5 years. But at least up here $8 just isn't an option - I think the cheapest ticket around is $12, maybe its that Boston is a HCOL area. If it were a little cheaper I'd probably go more often.

I never go to the movies either. The last movie I went and saw in the theatre that was for grown ups was The Simpsons movie. And before that, it was The Departed.

The reason I don't go to movies is because of the price mainly. I took the family to see Zootopia a couple months ago and I had a $25 gift card that my son got as a birthday gift. Using that, the total bill was still $40+ after getting snacks. That's absurd. I'd prefer the cozy confines of my basement anyway.

I also hardly ever go to the theater. It will be interesting to see if that new thing where you basically pay-per-view a theater movie in your own house ever catches on.

Wait, what? I know you can currently get some movies PPV before they're out on DVD. But you're talking about getting PPV for movies at the same time they're in theaters?

Do you have an AMC theater near you? They have a rewards program where you get a $10 credit for every $100 you spend. Not sure if it’s worth it for you. When you’ve got two kids like me and live in an area where tickets are $10+ it is a big saver for me.

He lives in Pikeville, so I'm guessing probably not. There may be one in Goldsboro though?

Yes. Google it. I don't know all the details. I know it's got movie theater companies all hot and bothered for obvious reasons.

ETA: Don't say I don't do nothing for ya. See this link. The Napster guy is involved with it.

I only really watch movies when I'm drop dead bored. I don't have the attention span for them, honestly. I'll go to the theater when I have some friends over if we have nothing better to do. I picked up Deadpool from a Redbox not too long ago, and it was good but overhyped. There was some movie on Netflix where some deaf mute chick was being stalked and toyed with by a killer, which I thought was pretty good too. Other than that, I got nothing. Just not a movie guy.

I don't live near an AMC, the theater in Goldsboro is a UEC and the theater in Wilson is a Carmike. But I'll keep that in mind, always good to have that info. If I end up back in the triangle, that will be handy, because I believe Southpoint has an AMC

Back to topic- we saw The Nice Guys last weekend. Great movie if you like Coen Bros-esque flicks. I laughed my ass off.

Another vote for Imitation Game as well.

I really wanted to see that, but I was in a show the weekend it opened. I'm gonna have to wait for it to hit dvd before I can check it out. I heard good things, the guy who wrote/directed it is Shane Black, he wrote Lethal Weapon as well, so he knows how to do the buddy cop thing well.

The $50 price tag is a deal breaker. You'd have to have a family or invite over a group of friends to get any real bang for your buck. Might make sense for certain much-anticipated releases.

I have been to the theatre probably 3-4 times in last 12 years and probably haven't rented one in 5 years (wife falls asleep once the credits are over). I have DVR'd probably 15 on HBO/MAX/SHO free weekends in last 2 years and have probably watched 2. I do watch my share of TV though.

Saw finding dory in imax 3d for fathers day. Hilarious. The clip beforehand ought to win an oscar. Incredible animation.
I thought it was ok. With so many flashbacks it made the plot feel kind of choppy and it didn’t flow well. They should have just put the flashbacks at the beginning instead of throughout the film.

You have seen all of these recently? Are these all new? I don't keep up with movies very much.

Whats fun is turning on the kids, who are now adults, to some great movies we couldnt watch when they came out due to their age. We watched reservoir dogs sun night. They loved it.

I want to see The Shallows purely because of Blake Lively in a bathing suit. She is smoking hot.
Need a verdict from the board here.

I thought this was only a chick thing. As in, "I'm going to go see a movie because it stars Channing Tatum even though the movie is probably terrible." Guys can see a movie and appreciate that it features an attractive female (Evangeline Lilly in the Hobbit, for example).

Are dudes allowed to go see a movie just because of the female star(s)? Excluding pron, obviously.

I never would, but I guess I wouldn't knock it if that was someone else's fancy. For me, if I want to see Blake Lively in a bikini - I'll google "Blake Lively in a bikini". Saves me the $12 to get into the theater, and the 2+ hours of sitting through an otherwise crappy movie. Not saying The Shallows is going to be a crappy movie (I don't know much about it) but just using this as an example.

Listen, I may have phrased it as "purely because of Blake Lively," but I was obviously being sarcastic. Every movie has hot chicks in it. I want to see it because it looks hilariously terrible but entertaining and it has Blake Lively.
