Trying to figure who stays and who goes next year. I came to one conclusion, UNC needs to keep Seth and Drake for another year. I am concerned Seth may want to test out his value in the portal, and concerned Powell may be selected in the draft.

Seth is due for an explosive season, and the highlights alone may be worth him staying. RJ Davis leaving is the real reason I think he should stay. The playing time for Seth will be there, and the green light should be there to, we will need his scoring.

Powell staying is about his value, I don't think transferring does anything for his draft stock, but a big year could put him in top 10 in 2026 draft. For us it provides another high level player who can defend multiple positions. Just having Seth and Drake makes your defense respectable.

EC could definitely be used next year, but his spot is always about are we getting a Big. If Caleb Wilson is his only respectable big, and him being a freshman I would have my doubts about EC's value to us. If EC left would you hand the keys to Seth? Is EC's pass first mentality the way to get some bigs in the portal?

Washington, I don't know him, but I think he would be smart to stay with UNC. If we make a run next year, Washington will be important as a role player. If he gets that 3 to fall next year, I could see Washington having some big moments.

Lubin I could have grouped with Seth and Drake to be honest as a must have next year. Lubin is an undersized power forward often times asked to play center. Withers gone Lubins minutes could increase. Lubin more of that grinding mentality should find playing time and a better role than playing center or power forward along side Jalen Washington next year.

Can't wait for the portal to open up, next season depends on it!

i think we all love seth but next season will be as much of a disappointment as this year if we are banking on him to be our #1 backcourt scorer. much like how everyone except Gary knew handing the 5 spot keys to Washington this year would be a disaster

I’m ok with Drake Caleb 2 Freshmen and Portal players

Our season will end at 1-12 versus teams that are good

RJ Ian Withers Gone regardless

I would keep Lubin if he’s willing to except less minutes

If you want Wilson here you sure as hell better hope EC stays.

Seth and EC want to be true Stars but at UNC that level is 4th 5th option and if they can get that at another place they should

Washington Brown Tyson you can upgrade that in the portal very easily

Again if EC and Seth are willing to share with bigger portal athletes at their position it could work I just think kids today aren’t gonna

Well, with some direct knowledge, Caleb wouldn't have committed to UNC in the first place without EC being here.
Feel free to extrapolate from that as you will.
Hopefully EC will be here, finding an elite pg on top of our needs at the 5 and shooting guard would be a tough ask from tge portal.
We would have to hit on all three.
I think EC will be more comfortable in his own skin without RJ in play.
That being said a starting backcourt of EC and Trimble can't be reality.
I would prefer EC with a stud 2 guard and Trimble backing up the 2/3

If you want Cadeau and Wilson next season, then they have to upgrade at the 2. An unwilling shooting backcourt like Cadeau and Trimble along with probably a limited shooter/scorer Wilson will make the offense limited. And that’s assuming they bring in an all conference caliber 5. And that’s also assuming if Powell returns he’ll become a willing shooter/scorer.

The answer to the question is it depends who the replacements are. There isn’t a single position on the current roster that shouldn’t be examined to be upgraded.

I personally want a pretty different looking group out there next season. Either that or the current players need to get A LOT better (and taller, lol).

I think moving Drake to his natural position at the 3 has generated enough interest that he and Jackson both look to the nba next season. I believe either EC or Trimble are back in Chapel Hill and either Washington or Lubin. Since Seth dipped his toe in the portal waters last season and Washington really hasn't developed much I'd guess EC and Lubin remain. The caveat being if EC still feels thrown under the bus by some UNC alum he may opt to move on.

Big time games from JWit and Lubin but I will continue to worry about relying to much on JWit hitting those treys. Per ESPN we had 19 assists on 28 made shots, that is out standing! Cadeau had 10 assists to only 2 TOs, again, outstanding. RJ played within himself, within the flow of the offense. Drake and Seth did a solid job making life hard for Burton, hated Drake got so deep in foul trouble but Burton is extra hard to defend and not pick up fouls.

As for the not so good, well, the not so good was Seth on the offensive end but I can give him some what of a pass for the work he did on the defensive end. But my man JWash, if we have seen all the intensity and focus he can play with then frankly the portal awaits you, we need you to much for this fading level of effort. JWash played 10mins yesterday and for those minutes he snagged a grand total of 2 boards, James Brown in 3 minutes snagged 4 boards, rebounds are about effort... Very disappointing. Really need more from Cappy Jack, he didn't really help us yesterday.

Harder task today, Wake is bigger and Salis is another hard guy to contain, need the shooting to continue, need to continue getting the ball to the post. I wish I could say for sure that winning this game even if just by 1 is fine but in a dog fight for one of the last invites to this coming NCAAT we really need to put up another strong win with a solid margin for the selection committee to have to consider.

Good review but I do believe playing three forwards instead of the 4 guards will make the difference

I really think what we are looking at is at an absolute minimum is a broad shoulders 5, starter quality and a starter quality PG. I can't trust Dawson or Denis to be able to give us solid back up minutes at the point nor do I feel great with Seth in that role. If Cadeau stays how could we trust him to be able to stay on the court for extended minutes after these last 2 seasons? If he leaves then the need for a PG that is starter level becomes crystal clear. Cadeau is a polarizing guy, some feel he walks on water and some don't like what they see, what I look at is how has he produced this season and so far it has been a mix of good and bad without much stability. Can we replace the talent that Cadeau has maybe not but can we replace a small PG that struggles to jump shoot and is considered to be the most turn over prone PG in the ACC, of course we can. Hard for me to understand any other view on that?

I think we will target 2 centers in this portal, guys with size and length, I believe that Hubert now understands the value of size and how much a hole it is to not have it in your front court. I think you can go ahead and pencil in High as being on next season's roster and we have James Brown in the fold. But I would suggest both High and James Brown will have to earn their spots, I just can't depend on them for double digit minutes for now. We have a math problem at that point, 2 major front court positions and Wilson looks to me like a easy big minute day 1 guy. Wilson, High, JWash, Lubin, James Brown, 2 portal bigs.... 7 guys for 2 spots? Dealer gives you 2 cards you got to toss 2? What do we do?

Well first, if Drake leaves and to consider that Drake on most mocks is drafted before Jack is assuming him back starts to feel like believing in Santa, great until you consider reality. It isn't a question of are they ready (Drake and Jack) it is only a question of will the NBA draft them first round, would you bet your house on that one? LOL So what do we do if Drake leaves, first thing I would do may surprise many but I would seriously consider if Wilson can play the 3, I actually think he not only could but could at a very high level. Wilson would be all about it because the 3 is very likely the position the NBA will draft him to play in the draft after next. If Tyson stays around I would move him to the 3 to back up Wilson, don't look for us to roll out a 6'3" small forward or a 6'6" 205lbs power forward next season.

That leads us to Lubin, who for the challenges he had to face has been outstanding, he can't help that he is undersized for a center. I think he has played well enough that he would be able to make a big time NIL strike by entering the portal, he has earned that right. Clearly we must get bigger at the 5 and truth is Lubin is not all that stretchable at the 4 and we all know Hubert demands his 4 be stretchable. I suspect he leaves because his fit may not be good for next season if we bring in a couple other bigs from the portal. Hate to lose him but that could be a win win situation for all.

Takes us down to 1 more guy, JWash... Yall know, hard to find anyone that has been more in that kid's camp but this season for me was has absolute key to showing what he can do and the truth is he has been a strong disappointment. It may be in everyone's best interest for him to portal out and take a reset with another program. Sorry but sometimes it just is what it is. So give me 2 centers or 1 center and a big strong 6'9" or more POWER forward that can stretch more than Lubin can. Give me a starter level PG no matter what Cadeau does and maybe a really sweet jump shooter (but we may have that already in Dawson).

For Cadeau, it will be about who his teammates are. If I'm just thinking logically... I don't think Wilson will be an advanced offensive player. I think he will mainly score in transition, layups, and offensive rebounds. I'm going to assume that the starting 5 will not be a high volume 3PT shooter. So if Cadeau is the PG1 with that 4/5, then the SG1 and SF1 need to be pretty high level scorers and likely high level shooters. For me, it would be easier if you had more of a scoring PG or at least a PG where it isn't a shock if they go for 15+. One that has that in their game consistently.

Cadeau is a talented developing PG. He has a long way to go but has come a long way in some areas. He's shooting 38.5% from 3 during the second half of the season. He doesn't shoot it enough for me to say he's a good or bad shooter. But he's been pretty efficient over a large sample of games, albeit a low sample of attempts. I always thought last season's 18% was a fluke. Very very few players are that poor from 3 with enough sample and I didn't think Cadeau was that bad. I think this season as a whole is more in line of who he is as a shooter. Low 30%, inconsistent, and an unwilling shooter.

The turnovers, foul trouble are concerning. I was also disappointed how he stopped getting to the FT line after the first 7 games or so. He's averaging 1.8 FTA/game over the last 25 games. His inefficiency at the FT line also makes it a difficult decision whether you can trust him in close late game situations IMO. So he's a developing PG, which is fine IMO. The ultimate question is who is around him.

I also think those that think Cadeau walks on water are very few on this board. Most people are pretty realistic with him. We all know the one who hasn't sold a single share of Cadeau stock and I think there's a pot committed element to that. I kind of chuckle because he said, "All I have to say to those jabronies is back off EC and Seth again and see what happens..." There was A LOT of confidence in Cadeau coming into this season, lol.

But again, a developing and talented PG. I think overall he took a step forward. But like any developing player, he has some ways to go.
