...and I'm gonna start with some stuff I didn't like
- Hicks with 3 fouls in the first 5 minutes? Seriously?
- Loose balls. Gotta do a better job of snatching the ball instead of just getting a hand on it. Can't say State wasn't trying in this game because they battled for 50/50 balls, but still...
- Our Bigs started out like they'd forgotten that teams like to ball-screen... enabled at least 10 of Smith's points. Took til the under-8 in the first half to get that mess straight.
- we also had 12 Blown Assists in the first half alone --- the good news is we only had 3 in the second. Also botched 9 transition opportunities.
OK... the good stats
- Scored 51 in the first half (hmmm... that number sounds familiar
) and 97 for the game despite JJ being cold from outside, and somehow the zebras deeming us only worthy of 8 FTs (again, seriously?)
- Speaking of FTs it was good to see Tony go 4/4.
- 5 guys in double figures, even with Hicks short-timing it tonight. Strong game by big Kennedy with 17 and 8 + 3 Assists.
- Maybe --- just maybe --- one day some fans will figure out that Luke Maye can play at the ACC level and play well. 13 and 7 and kept us from missing Hicks.
- Vintage efficient game from Berry --- 18 pts on 7/11 shooting and 4/8 from 3, and despite somehow not getting to the damned line. Hell, there was one late first-half possession that he got just blatantly body-blocked --- twice --- right in front of the zebras and nada. That sh**'s getting old.
other stuff
- Kudos to Buckets for not letting poor shooting affect his game. To his credit he kept taking good shots (without forcing) and got rewarded later.
- I figured DSJr would come out and try to prove something. He's a marvelous talent, and our sleep on ball-screens and some bail-out calls aided and abetted his early escapades, but all the forcing caught up with him, and JB went full dog on him in the second half and from that point on DS only got 2 pts with Joel guarding him.Telling moment late when Dennis forces a bad 3 and Nate (who was guarding him then) just runs out for a snowbird off the rebound.
- Speaking of JB, dog had 6 Dimes, 3 Steals and caused 3 more TOs in his 31 minutes.
- Finally, referencing that sketchy thread on Rowan from this week, Mav can't guard his momma. Theo used him like a vending machine rubber, and could just take it in for a lay-up when he felt like it.
I left out the paint numbers because, hell, it was a given with them going small. We took care of business and beat State twice by a total of 75 points. Sadly this is tempered by Kenny getting scoped. Damn. We just can't have nice things this season.
