...per Twitter JB and Hicks are not declaring at all.

Also, JJ of course already has declared w/out agent, and I believe Kennedy will as well with the expectation that unless he gets a surprise draft grade he's coming back. As before, the wildcard is JJ as for best possibly of leaving.

No insider info, just a gut feeling:

JJ goes pro.
Yeah, the feeling I get from what I've heard is we're at best 50/50 of him returning... probably more like 40/60. I would just advise Heel fans to not get their hopes up and be pleasantly surprised if he comes back.... that's what I'm doin'.

I mean, hey, we're 90/10 with Meeks (his words) and 100% with Berry and Hicks, so things could be worse...

no surprise here from what i've heard and from what hasn't been poasted.

just out of curiosity @TarHeelNation11 why do you think this?
Because of some things Andrew has said on premium which I won't post here out of respect of premium info.

Additionally, I've always heard from many of y'all that Jackson's game is better suited for the NBA game than the college game. And lastly, I know how NBA scouts love potential and I'm sure JJ will look the part in workouts.

I actually think Kennedy won't come back either, truth be told.

I'm not sure I see JJ as NBA ready at this point. He does have a nice floater around the basket that others on the team seemed to pick up on last season, but I don't recall him having the long 3pt. shot the pro game seems to love from the taller guards and smaller forwards. And for whatever reason it seems to me his body is not quite ready to go into attack mode to the lane against some of the more developed bodies that occupy that space in the league. That said, I really have enjoyed watching Justin play at UNC and whatever he feels is best for him I wish him the best but I think one more year in college will serve him well.

Easy .................................. folk paying for that.
I know, which is why I didn't say what he said.

Everything I wrote after the portion you quoted was not stuff AJ said in his thread today. The stuff in my second and third paragraph was separate from the things Andrew said. Or at least was struff I've heard myself. Apologies if I was out of line. Feel free to edit out anything on my post that you deem breaks rules!

ETA: I've gone back and edited the post to make it more clear.

I like Justin just fine. But, I don't recall any game (or games) where he was the dominant, go-to guy that took the games over. Maybe my memory isn't too sharp. he contributes and he's a skilled starter. But, I just don't see him as some super star player like Berry, Paige, or Johnson. Was he ever even on any of the All ACC teams? I'm not trying to slam the guy, seriously. I just don't see his exit as being some huge hole to fill. It would be great if he comes back, but I'm not going to be upset if he leaves.

Same with Meeks, only he's even less of hole to fill.

All good points. The inside expectation on Justin was that he would likely be a 2-yr player. He is long and a natural scorer with an advanced mid-range game, and was very much on the NBA radar coming out of HS. His freshman season set him up well and it was a matter of developing physically, showing he was willing/able to defend athletic wings and, most importantly, honing that outside stroke. He only accomplished 2 outta 3. In other words, if he had a strong shooting season you could color him gone. The fact he didn't is what makes his performance in the combine/workouts now the critical factor.

I would love to have him back but, yes we could very well lose him (and no worries, Mikey, I have a better source than Andrew ;)).

Mistake # 1 would humble most who leave too early... JJ is not quite there yet (jmho)... However, my thoughts will not determine what he does, in the end...

I think there's a chance JJ could come back but if he gets enough love from scouts he's definitely going to stay in the draft. Meeks is the more likely candidate to come back, which I think he will. I don't even know if he would get drafted.

JJ ain't ready for the NBA, and no his game doesn't fit the NBA better. You make shots or ya miss them. He has a chance to be the go to scorer on a top 10 team next year, increasing his value. He'd be a fool to leave, and I don't think he will. No sources though.

JJ should leave..he'll get better at practice playing against other pros..it's going to be a log jam at the 2and 3 spot if he returned..numbers are bound to drop with less playing time..better get out now!!

I would rather Meeks declare without an agent than to not try it. I say this because I think the kid needs to hear what he has to work on from NBA people, he doesn't seem to be getting it when it is coming from Roy. If Meeks gets the point from NBA people then I think he will work harder this off season and that hard work should pay off in his having a great senior season.

Agree 100%. Think him hearing it from them will do him a world of good.

Both can benefit greatly from coming back but I'll support whatever they decide.

I think it helps our recruiting long term if Jackson leaves. There is a perception that you can't come to UNC and move on to the NBA quickly. Right or wrong (circumstances drive a lot of it), that could change with JJ leaving and being drafted on potential.

I seriously doubt his minutes would drop much, if any. And he would get more shots with Marcus and Brice gone. I tithing it behooves him to return but as always, I'll support whatever decisions our players make. My gut says it's 50-50 that he returns and 90-10 that Kennedy does.

I think in the end winning helps recruiting more than anything else in normal circumstances. IMO, the reason we see so many kinds now days want to commit in clusters is in their minds they want to win and kinda sell themselves on the notion that their chances of winning in college are increased if they get their mega talented buds on board.

One of the problems we have had is that this past season was our first trip to the title game or the final 4 in a while. We can discuss why forever but we have not been exactly seen as the winner type program since the last time we won it all. WE had a great recruiting class on the heals of that last title winning season but it kinda blew apart, that whole class was pretty much a disappointment to put it in the most nice terms I can think of. We even got some love the following class but that class left early and we were not able to replace Reggie, Kendal, and Barns with similar level talents and then the NCAA stuff blew up in our faces, the slide from where we were to where we have been had begun.

I think we can get a LOT of love from this 2017 class in large part because we played in the title game, most especially if we see that we will not have post season bans to worry about. We now have the chance to show, especially big men, wide open available playing time as freshmen, that fits what the better talents are looking for and especially the big men and it very specifically has been big men we have been missing on.

I really don't buy big men have not been committing to us because they think Roy holds them back from getting to the NBA any longer than at Ky or duke. I do think the potential of a post season ban has been a problem because no one & done wants to see their freshman season and they not be able to increase their NBA worth by having a post season ban that would not allow them to play in the NCAAT. You could be the next coming of Sampson, jabar, Shaq,or Wilt and KNOW you wil be the first pick in the draft after your frosh season but you still want to have a chance to win it all at the college level and a post season ban does not allow that. No matter if you think there may be a post season ban for UNC or not, we just have not been that consistent deep in the NCAA program over the last few years and it has dulled our image while Ky and duke's image has exploded.

For me however, the larger issue has been available PT. I think most of these big time talents need to see strong available PT. Kinda blew my mind Ky was able to assemble so many top 20 players for that team season before last. *I mean big men committed to them knowing they had a strong stock of front court players and yet Towns and Lyle still went to them. But Ky had the recency of winning it all still fresh in kids minds and were riding that still.

But we now have that wide open front court PT we can point to for those coveted big men. By the time the 2017 class get to college we at most would have ONLY Tony Bradley as a guy that may take some of your PT. We have great shooters, we have great guards to get you the ball and all the PT you can dream of, PERFECT situation and even more so if it is clear you do not have to worry about a post season ban! I think the worries will go away about a post season ban once we receive the updated NOA in a few days and its contents are made public.

I think the issue in your last sentence has been cleared up...and I agree and have posted much the same...if you are a big man come on down, we have PT available AND we got the players to get you the ball.
