I know we're not supposed to be negative about anything on a 6-1 UNC team, but some of the star recruits on this D are struggling to be good.

I hate to pick on a specific guy, but how does this angle happen? He's had several headscratchers this yr. It took Cayson Collins all 4 yrs to be productive, so it isn't too late, but this dude needs to step up if he wants to be more than a 3rd-down specialist forever. Poor Ced Gray is having to play 100% of the snaps. He's gonna be exhausted by Nov.

There are times when I see a guy on D just look like he surely must be a 2* walk on forced to play because the 6 guys ahead of him on the death chart are all injured. The near total lack of fundamentals we see several times in each game is mind boggling. These are top athletes who simply do not know how to play. So they make mistake after mistake, some of them howlers that my Jr High coaches would not tolerate.

The best recruits in, m say, 1969 and 1989 entered the college game much better prepared to play sound football than do top recruits today. Which means that a college staff today really needs every assistant to be a top notch master of teaching the fundamentals that so many players today do not get in HS.

Something else you see sometimes with 1-gap schemes is guys not making contact until about five yards past the LOS instead of at the LOS because no one's getting double teamed up front and LBs aren't kept clean.

The dookies lost that game as much as Carolina won it. They gave it away! They had it won and just blew it.

Thank goodness for Maye and the offense.

Loss of Vohasek prob won't help. I know he's hurt too, but I was expecting Murphy to be a little more disruptive or improved.
