The Biggest Fish in the Pond Visits North Carolina This Weekend

The last year has basically told the whole world that UNC's NIL isn't good enough to land the type of recruits that have sustained UNC basketball for the past 60 years.

Something has got to change quickly or '25-'26 is going to be an embarrassing season.
UNC Basketball can't end up being like UNC Football but will if UNC NIL packages don't increase.

Pretty ugly today. They made the JMU QB look like a Heisman candidate: nearly 400yds, 5TD's, almost 100yds rushing with another 2 TDs. Those are some absurd stats. That is direct attribution of 42pts, nay, 44 including the 2pt conversion. UNC as a team only outscored him by 6pts.

That said, I think something like the kenan circus on Saturday has much less effect on a basketball recruit than a football recruit. Just think about all of the basketball success we've had since mack left the first time.

I'll take "In the Mix" any day of the week! I believe Hubs is a true closer and I love how we are back on the lists of every top recruit!

Go Tar Heels!

Not holding my breath. I have seen this movie before. UNC will make the final cut, it will seem like he's headed our way and will opt for a bigger paycheck at the last minute. Lather, rinse, repeat.

2nd step: UNC will continue to field contending teams and lead the conference and lead the NCAA!

This is what I see that fits the description: Lather, rinse, repeat!

Word is that Carolina just has to be in the ballpark with NIL, I just don’t know if Carolina can get in the ballpark. All indications are that he loved his visit and his family loved it. If this were a basketball only decision, I think Carolina would land him.
What is the "Ballpark" figure?

If we only lose RJ, and Ian Jackson next year (Keep EC). I think AJ is worth whatever. If EC transfers or goes pro, we need that money spread out.

Name the last UNC team that contended and won the conference with zero 5-star recruits and zero McDonald's All Americans on the roster.

Thing about ponds that we folk from the south know all to well, the biggest fish in our ponds is a cat fish. So, are we cat fishin or being cat fished? Now I do love me a good ole mess of cat fish, fried up just right makes my mouth water! But I am not a fan of being cat fished.

Wonder if it's a couple million? If he's that good and looking to make $$ why not go overseas?

Why would he go overseas when he'll make $4 million+ at BYU?
Because playing overseas would give him a much better preparation for the NBA than playing at BYU.

This guy is likely going to make $8-12 mill in his first NBA year and has the potential to make around half a billion dollars in his career… so getting that career off to the best start possible should be a priority.

When we as UNC basketball fans have a we will take it way of thinking with a top recruit. Because he seems interested there is a problem.

We should be on everyone list and outside the top 5 with very few recruits.

This is concerning.

With UNC tradition, family & just overall UNC basketball history ... we should have a top 5 class every yr period regardless of NIL or not !! We are CAROLINA

That is so ridiculously out of touch with reality.

We weren't even getting top 5 classes every year during the best stretches of Dean and Roy's career. Now you think recruits should be turning down millions of dollars because of "tradition, family, and history"?

Hard not to get excited at this point but I will try to be patient!

I hope Mr. Dybantsa loves winning and understands the benefit of such a large forever Family!
Get on board the Natty Train Sir!

If he’s going to make that much on a rookie contract in the NBA it seems like NIL money is irrelevant. Going to a program that gets national attention, lots of games on tv, and a program that improves your skill is far more important than any $ amount as a college one and done player.

This.
Word is BYU has to sell AJ on what they can do for his brand. UNC hit a grand slam pitching this to AJ.

He could suffer a career ending injury tomorrow. NIL money is definitely not irrelevant. It could be the only paycheck he ever gets. If we want him, we'll have to outbid BYU and Alabama... and that seems incredibly unlikely.
