Thinly-veiled race-related stereotypes in sports

I haven't seen this reference in recent years but in baseball, if a player was considered a "Hot Dog" which meant he liked to show off when he made a good play, he was always Hispanic.

^ it's not because they're white lol. It's just a coincidence that they're white while also being smart. I covered the field hockey team for the DTH and a lot of the players were majoring in various sciences.

Have to bump this one in honor of the Platek/Rowan thread on Radar. https://northcarolina.forums.rivals.com/threads/platek-vs-rowan.50998/
Wonder why those two players are being compared?

Platek has been referred to as a "gym rat" and a "coach on the floor". Just waiting for the "high motor" or "deceptively athletic" comment to come in and complete the trifecta.

Man, I was fired up that week.

By the way, in hindsight, who was right about Platek and who was wrong. I wonder.

That was a good read. I'll give myself a shout out for being right about Kenny starting and improving as well.

"Articulate" is usually a white announcer basically saying he's surprised that an African-American athlete can enunciate and form complete sentences. It's not used as much these days, but I hate hearing this one.
Reminds me of the Chris Rock bit about people praising Colin Powell because he "speaks so well"! "That's not a compliment, that's what you say about a retarded kid"! Chris Rock's words, not mine, thus the quotation marks!

Also, only the kids in your squad with specific upper echelon status were allowed to use the neon orange crayon. You couldn't lend that to just anyone.
