Tiger

That 3 putt is what I mean.

Tiger in his prime hits the first one within 3’. And that guy also never missed a R to L uphill 6 footer on the back 9 when in contention.

He's played some damn good golf regardless of the outcome. This is his second tournament back and he's in contention against some great golfers.

Let's just all agree to hope he gets one more birdie so he'll be ahead of Sergio

Here we go. Going to need a helluva approach shot

Needed another five to ten yards

If he hits this putt he is instantly the favorite to win the masters.

The iron off 18 was curious. Knew that he needed birdie and it's so tough from 185 uphill to get that 2nd shot close. If he rips a drive he'd only have had like 125 in.

Still though, he is the entire sport.

Hopefully Tiger got himself a dozen hookers and an 8-ball for his day off today

Whether you like him or not, watching golf is more fun with Tiger in the mix!

That's not true for me at all. I definitely agree that's the case for the casual golf fan. But for real golf enthusiasts, the show goes on just the same without Tiger. And in fact, many golf enthusiasts enjoyed golf more after Tiger left the scene because he often killed drama by being so dominant.

But as I stated in my initial poast in this thread, I'm glad to see Tiger playing well. I think he was unjustly beaten down by the media that was totally on his jock for years and years. I'd love for him to give the middle finger to them all. It's proof positive that no one ever gave a shit about Tiger as a person - just what he could do for them.

With all that said, Tiger is now 10-1 at the Masters. He won't win but I'm glad he's back on tour and playing well. Good for him.

This may be true for some but I think there is a large group of us that are huge golf fans but it falls lower on the priority list on a Sunday afternoon unless it's a major. When you bring Tiger back into the mix, suddenly that goes way up in the priority list, #1 to me even at a mid-level event like Valspar.

Ratings don't lie, he is the sport.

The hardcore golf fans who shell out hundreds or even thousands of dollars to spectate at these events tend to follow him around the course in droves so it's definitely not just casual fans. Hell, even the other golfers were pulling for him this weekend.

Yeah, @gunslingerdick was just doing his patented thing again where he thinks his specific viewpoint can be extrapolated out to all golf fans :p

I guess it's generational then. If you were a golf fan before Tiger came along then you most likely don't care about Tiger one way or another. I was getting into golf a few years before Tiger came along and even in high school, many of my friends were the country club golfing type. I can tell you that all those people don't care if Tiger is playing or not. But what y'all say could be true. I don't know because I don't consider the millennial's point of view often.

As far as ratings, golf ratings jumped not because die hards got more interested by Tiger. It's because Tiger brought the casual fan to the course. He brought the guys that yell "get in the hole" every time someone hits it. Those people are the ones making the ratings jump. The die hards (of which there used to be few) were watching regardless.

Don't take my word for it. Ask @UNC71-00, @coryfly and our resident golf aficionado from Texas who's screen name escapes me.

1. I'm 34, don't call me a millennial...it's worse than your infatuation with my mom.

2. You do have a point with the "how did you get into golf thing". I was 14 in 1997 and at that perfect age to get completely swept up in his next 12 years. I didn't play golf before 1997.

3. They were doing the idiotic "get in the hole" scream LONG before Tiger Woods. It just wasn't as prevelant on TV because no one watched golf before Tiger Woods :D

I just don't care for Tiger. He's done a lot for the game but he'll never be the ambassador for the game that Jack and Arnie were and are. His biggest contribution is pay for the players. Every player on tour should thank him for their paychecks.
He's a great talent but I just can't get the Tiger Mania.

1 - You are 100% millennial. Smack dab in the middle of it. Now, you may be an "old soul" but your birth year has you as a millennial. There's no running from it as much as you'd like to.

2 - In all seriousness, I do think people who were into golf before Tiger and people who got into golf after (or maybe "because of") will definitely not agree on his entertainment value. But I've already acknowledged what he's done for the sport (for better or for worse).

3 - Not true. Or at least, not in the numbers you saw in the 2000s. Tiger without a doubt, Happy Gilmored the tour.

Most of the biggest Tiger fans I know are are baby boomers.

Then they weren't real golf fans before Tiger.

Yeah... that's a load of horseshit. My grandpa has loved the game since the Nicklaus days, and he loves Tiger as much as anyone I've ever met. The man ran a golf course and has played 1000's of rounds in his life.

Ok. Then the scads of Baby Boomers that you're supposedly friends with and your golf course managing old grandad are the outliers.

Good grief.

And anyone who doesn't have the same opinion of Tiger that you have is a "casual fan."

You sound like a teenager complaining about their favorite band getting popular.

No. You’re just arguing for th sake of arguing which is what you do. You don’t know any “baby boomer golfers” any more than the man in the moon. And I’m questioning th whole “my grandad ran a golf course for years” thing too. Your mom never mentioned that to me and she knows how much I love golf.

You've come back to this thread to tell us you don't like Tiger like 8 different times, if you didn't want to argue you could just fukk off instead of trying to convince everyone that you're a "real" golf fan.
