I'm guessing you didn't read the fine print.Needs bacon.
The key to a tomato sandwich is simplicity, not some Gordon Ramsay shit.you're doing it wrong.
tomato, thin sliced prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil...maybe a little red onion and arugula, dash of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, fresh ground pepper.
I didn't say anything about lettuce.I'm guessing you didn't read the fine print.
Leave me alone.You started it.
Nothing better in the summer than two slices of juicy fresh tomato between slices of toast slathered with mayo and salt and pepper.* That's all I wanted to say. You all have a good afternoon.
*Except for a BLT...but this thread isn't about BLT's so GFY.
you're doing it wrong.

Truth. Leave it off, and the sandwich is ruined. The salt and pepper are the key to any mater sammich.
This..periodHome grown mater on soft white bread with duke's mayo and pepper. Some vidalia onion and baby cukes soaking in apple cider vinegar as an accompanimeinmentment
Where were you born up north?Am I the only Hellman's guy on here? Duke's just tastes off to me; I can't quite put my finger on it. Hellman's is the perfect mayo.
Correct. The bread should not be anything fancy, its purpose is mostly structural.Heelmanwilm gets it.
Tomatoes. Home grown, not store bought. Preferably big Red Beefsteaks or Better Boys. Purple Cherokee Heirlooms are ok too.
White bread. Soft. Not toasted.
Duke's Mayonnaise.
Salt and pepper. Lot's of pepper.
That is all.
Nope, but my dad was, so that's probably where it came from. There was always Hellman's in the fridge, so that's what I'm used to.Where were you born up north?
Yeah, I guess it's just what you grew up eating. I've been a Duke's fan for as long as I can remember.Nope, but my dad was, so that's probably where it came from. There was always Hellman's in the fridge, so that's what I'm used to.
Definitely with you on the home grown and not store bought. With a BLT, I think you can get away with store bought tomatoes (even though they still aren't as good, obviously), but with a tomato sandwich, they have to be at least locally grown.Heelmanwilm gets it.

I, for one, don't consider whole wheat bread "fancy" so you're good to go..Definitely with you on the home grown and not store bought. For the bread, I prefer wheat. I like the flavor and the texture a lot better, even though white will do just fine. They're still good soft, but I prefer all sandwiches toasted; tomato not being an exception.
the first time I ever heard of someone eating a tomato sandwich, I thought WTH is wrong with these people?
American cheese is trash. The only time it's even tolerable is when it's melted onto a much more delicious meat product. But I'll add one slice of american cheese if I have it but it's not a must have.
I plant between 20 to 24 each year of different variety.
They need lots and lots of sun. The more the better.Little cherry and grape tomatoes are the only ones I've had any luck with. Either I'm too inconsistent with fertilizing/watering or my little garden bed just isn't in a good spot.

I wish I had some sun to grow my own 'maters . . too many tall oaks on this lot.
