I cannot get on board with your first sentence, but saw nothing in the rest of that post that I remotely disagreed with. I think you were spot on with it! I have not heard Wilcher to be a point guard, but yet another combo. We have seen in the last 3 years that we need an absolute pure PG facilitator and for floor general. I really am hoping Cadeau reclasses and the rest of your post comes to fruition.
Then let's talk about that first sentence!
Now very clearly, I am much higher on Trimble that most everyone else seems to be, I may be on that island alone but so be it. I see him as a potential key to something big, will explain. Seth this season was a really bad jump shooter, which was his weak point prior to college, he was a decent jump shooter but not consistent. We tend to recall how a kid plays at the end of the season more so that early on, kid clearly lost all confidence in his shooting, same happened with Dunn in his freshman season and don't forget, Seth was a freshman that did not get big minutes.
Most of the season, when Seth was put in it was at either the 2 or 3 guard spots, have no clue why because you don't put a weak shooter at a position that you have extreme need for knock down shooting and expect it to work well, it is like expecting Caleb Love to ball handle like Ty Lawson. Seth at the 2 or 3 and the ball not in his hands, defenders back off and go double someone else that is a solid shooting threat. But put the ball in his hands as a PG and he is a pg NOT a 2 OR 3, THE OTHER TEAMS HAS TO PUT A DEFENDER ON HIM, CAN'T DOUBLE OFF! Seth is an electric at the rim finisher and a solid passer but his mates have to work to get in to position for him to get them the ball and as we know our offensive movement was really poor. We needed to have let Seth settle in as a PG, not experimenting with him as a 2 or 3, that just was not smart.
Wilcher, being honest, I prefer him as a 2 but this kid has basketball IQ big time, has all the PG instincts, is a PG right now at the high school level, not flashy, looks to make the smart play rather than the flashy one, very good passer and actively looks to set his mates up, I only see him as a combo because I feel he could be a fantastic 2 guard that can score from all 3 levels.
RJ, love RJ but I have always seen him as a 2 guard trapped in a PG body, he is a serviceable + PG but more of a shooter/scorer that really needs to work for his own looks rather than look for his mates. His 3 years of starting at the point however is very valuable. Dunn, if he comes back I think can develop in to a really solid shooting threat, I think he just needs PT to get there.
I would caution everyone thinking all this team needs is Cadeau, not long back all we needed was Cole, how did his freshman season go for us? Not long after that all we needed was Caleb Love at the point, how did that freshman season go for us? Joel Berry didn't start a single game for us as a freshman but do we really expect a freshman Cadeau will come in and dominate at the PG spot or should that maybe be tempered a touch? I am not saying Wilcher will either but I am looking at Wilcher as 1 of 3 PGs and don't even know he will start just yet. Lets get the PGs we have matured up with PT NEXT season so they can help Cadeau with their experience when he does get here, help him transition from the high school level to the college level. Neither RJ nor Caleb had that and it hurt their development.
Will end this with I can't help but LOVE the thought of a Trimble/Wilcher back court from the defensive view point, that is a lock down defensive duo that will drive opposing teams nuts because if you didn't already know, Wilcher is considered a fantastic defender, near the level of Trimble on tat end of the court.
