Twerps ready top fire Edsall

Bruce Feldman has said on the radio that Chip Kelly might entertain the Maryland job - for UnderArmopur money.

I wonder if that will spur Miami to act. Kelly may not last in Philly, and he clearly is better fit for the college game. A number of Miami fans have posted about Kelly, one of them that Kelly knows a couple of Canes boosters well and has said that the right HC there can win a National title.

Well let's just say that VT is the closest thing to a Maryland replacement the ACC has. The mutters are baseline zero for inclusion in the ranks of colleges, but the Chokie fans are running close race at +.01

Yeah, honestly, if the earth opened and swallowed up Lane Stadium tomorrow night, the aggregate IQ and the quality of human beings would instantly improve....in BOTH Blacksburg and Raleigh!

Watch out for TEXAS and the old Chipper
THIS. I'm hearing this too.
Don't be that guy. Charlie Strong has a decent resume of program building and player development. The four teams Texas has lost to are a combined 19-1 and all of them are ranked. It would be unbelievably short-sighted to fire him now, not even halfway through his second season at UT.

Where did I say Strong should be fired? I'm a HUGE Charlie Strong fan. I have no doubt he'd turn Texas around. I just don't know if they'll give him the time...

That's true, but we're talking about Texas here, and those Big Money Boosters that didn't like the selection of Strong to begin with are rallying support to get rid of him now IMO.....Remember, the one guy that was in his corner has already been fired, so Charlie's on an Island by himself at the moment, and the clock is ticking....Billionaire boosters are not going to be patient for long, and I think the writing is already on the wall....

Strong is a good Coach, and will land on his feet again somewhere....Maybe he'll replace the "Ol' Ball Sack" at South Carolina?

When he took the Texas job, I said he was taking a big risk. He may be from Arkansas, but his coaching has not been in the old SWC area, which means Texas boosters have not seen his work up close, year after year. That would not matter if he went to Austin and won right off the bat. But last year was worse than the seasons that got Mack Brown told to retire or else. And the beat down Arkansas out on Texas in the bowl left an awful taste in fans' mouths that could not just go away on its own. Texas then started this year getting embarrassed by ND.

Stop and think about that: a Major football program totally outclassed in every way to end one season - against what for 70 years was its 3rd most important and fierce rival) - and then to begin the next - against one of the most storied names in the sport. That's certain to mean boosters start thinking about the HC as the problem.

Strong's history of impatience may be haunting him in TX. He spent years salivating at the mere thought of an SEC HC job. He was so focused on an SEC job, that he came to be seen as insulting to a wded swath of ADs, those at places USF and UCF and Southern Miss and even in the ACC. Strong rebuffed interest from such schools for years, while all but demanding that the SEC make one of its teams hire him as HC. Finally, he got serious about taking a job other than as HC of an SEC school. And he swore he would always be grateful. And when his star QB made certain he looked very good, he began entertaining offers from SEC schools. Then he took the Texas job - not SEC but huge history and 100,000 seat stadium. A 'bigger' job than anything in the SEC but, and at least as big as Florida and LSU and Georgia.

If Strong had been patient, he might have gotten the Florida job last year. And if he had not, he probably now would be #1 on the SoCar list to replace Spurrier. Unless he turns around his flop in Austin, his next job will be a step down.

As for Maryland..........they will regret more and more each passing year their decision to join the B1G. I hope they enjoy those games where Byrd is 65% full of PSU / tOSU / MSU / Michigan fans. And those 5 win seasons.
Interestingly enough, though, Maryland has a better record percentage-wise in the B1G than they did in the ACC.

Maryland just gave Edsall a 3 year contract extension but I think I read that only a small amount of the money was guaranteed. They got the UnderArmour $ to fall back on for buyouts anyway.

South Carolina ain't the appealing job some of y'all seem to think it is.......

Easily in the bottom four of SEC jobs.
It's better than Vandy, UK, and Miss St for sure. It's probably close to par with Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Missouri. If you are in the SEC and can put 75,000 in your stadium, the job is a good one.

Arkansas has more money than SCar could ever dream of. You get my point though....SCar is in the bottom tier of SEC jobs. Certainly not as attractive as Bama, Auburn, UGA, Florida, Tennessee (this one is eroding, though), Texas A&M, LSU

The extension was for show - to try to make recruits feel at ease wit the staff. It won't cost UMD much.

I hope the Twerps screw this hire every which way and never again are higher than 4th in the BT East. But if I were the AD, my top pick to woo would be Tom Herman. The Twerps now need a man who knows the BT, and especially one with Ohio St ties. Herman is a Cincinnati native and former OSU OC.

That's one thing nobody can deny, the lamecocks pack their stadium regardless if they are good or not. They will attract a big name when ole ball sack retires.

Yes, but that's still much better than P5 programs like Kansas, Iowa St, Texas Tech, Indiana, Minnesota, Washington St, Oregon St, and a few ACC jobs.
