Early in the season we often played lackadaisically (to put it kindly) in the first half but would crank it up in the second half to pull it out (e.g. Dayton) or almost pull it out (e.g. Kansas).

A lot of us felt that if we could just be more ready, more aggressive out of the gate, we'd do better.

Some of us thought it showed that Hubert was a better halftime coach than a pregame coach.

Now we seem to be better at starting games but fade away down the stretch.

Sure there are exceptions but that's how it seems to me.

To the extent that this is true, why?

I think its one of those things that you have to put blame on the coach and the players...I dont know what else to say. Its embarrassing at this point, you see bits and pieces throughout the game where they look danm good and your like "ohh wow this is what the team could be" but more often then not its only for 2-3 minutes spurts and then they go back to the same crap team they have been all year. Someone has to get the blame put on them and I think its got to be Hubert. With the Wilson signing I find it hard to believe they would risk him leaving by firing Hubert, even if thats what's best for UNC in the long run. I would say if your going to bring him back next year, you tell him he is going to have a different staff you get him to bring on some legit former head coaches and maybe you get him a GM to help build a team. He does seem like a good recruiter and if we really do have the NIL finally squared away you put him in a better position to succeed

If they let a one year high school recruit determine who the coach is everyone involved should be fired immediately. I agree he seems to have recruiting chops-outside of big men mostly-but Wilson shouldn’t impact the plan moving forward in the least.

We’ve seen slow starts in all of HD’s seasons so far, with last year being the mildest. But clearly the narrative was that they found something against Oklahoma. It also seems like every year they start with more 5 out nonsense and lazy switches and eventually adjust some after their utter failure. I think the assistants are strong enough but don’t believe that they are being heard by HD for whatever reason.

I just watched Hubert's post game comments. He looked demoralized and lost. I worry that he and this team won't get appropriately energized by the Duke game.

While winning looks like a tall order, fighting hard shouldn't be.

Is there any indication that Hubert will reshuffle his coaching staff? Whose jobs are in jeopardy?

If Hubert does make staff changes, will that be enough?

Conversely, is there any reason to think UNC is actively checking out replacements for Hubert? If so, who are they looking at?

If they pull the plug on Hubert during the season, who becomes temporary head coach?

What the world needs is a Sports AI that can run zillions of simulations. So, for example, we could see how this team would perform with Dean Smith or King Rice or whoever coaching the same roster.

It's possible that Hubert is doing quite well (compared to other coaches) in getting the best out of this team. I don't quite buy that, but it's possible.

We fade in the stretch because the other team counters what we are doing and at that point we are done because our coach has no idea how to make or what adjustments to make to counter them back. I would bet that every team in the country that has the same record as are less talented, we are by far the worse coached team in the ACC and maybe the country.

As I have been saying for 3 years, Davis can't coach. He should have kept Robinson.
Coach Rob had a 42.7% W-L record at FSU and his only winning season came in the first year with the team he inherited.

People say he was a great assistant coach, but was he really the right guy to take the reins? I imagine Roy would have said so, if that were true.

No, he shouldn’t have taken over but he should have been retained as top assistant.

Would he have wanted to stay?

I think most of us were pretty happy with the people Hubert brought in.

IIRC, we had a similar conversation when Doherty came in. Do you keep someone on staff who may compete for player or booster loyalty (intentionally or unintentionally).
