UNC Forward Dontrez Styles Enters Transfer Portal

Every UNC coach has had misses on the recruiting trail. Sometimes the player didn't develop. Sometimes the player was just a bad fit. Here are examples of Hall of Fame Coach Roy Williams misses at UNC:

Mike Copeland
Will Graves
Alex Stepheson
Larry Drew
David Wear
Travis Wear
Desmond Hubert
Seventh Woods
Andrew Platek
Sterling Manley
Brandon Huffman
Jalek Felton
Ant Harris
Dontrez Styles
That's over a long period of time and Hubert wasn't involved for most of them. You've mentioned several times that these transfers have been horrible in practice. If they can't even hang in practice, they certainly aren't ACC level players. Hubert was failing Roy a lot by bringing him all these misses.

Yeah, like I said, idk.

I was told if Love returns to expect

Dunn
Trimble
Washington
Styles
And possibly one other to leave.

I was told if he leaves, maybe one in that bunch still.

But, I hold zero stock in the person saying it.
Zero stock…sounds like “my guy” too

Hate to lose young guys (first or second year) but guess the coaches recognized they didn’t deserve PT.

Well, I know they are counting heavily on the transfer portal to reignite this team. But now also going to have to also use it to restock the now empty bench. Not a real positive look.

I heard the exact opposite. So who knows what's true. Even Tyler Nickel said the Caleb was his biggest cheerleader and was wanting him to get more time because he trusted him to make shots. Caleb takes a lot of heat on these boards, but he was and still is the player with the highest ceiling on the team. Leaky was not a scorer, and Nance just lost his confidence for some reason. I played and coached basketball, and sure Caleb could be a bit more selective with his shots, but the offense Hubert ran was the biggest problem. Caleb and RJ both found the other players throwing the ball to them with the shot clock running down where they were forced to make miracle plays. That's not productive offense at all. When the ball swung, and there was player movement instead of standing around, the shots came in the flow of the offense and they made a higher percentage. Even Bacot struggled the second half of the year. Some of it was injuries and the other was teams double and triple teaming him because they didn't have to really guard Nance and Leaky. No team can be successful like that, and I think it's sad they way you guys trash Caleb, when he was not the only issue with this team. Without him the season would've been worse. He nor RJ should've been forced to play 35 minutes a game. That came from not developing a bench. That's why the guys are transferring.
You heard the truth and thanks for sharing it.
The most negative thing about the program are the fans and people you see on this board

Hubert didn't bring Roy all these misses. Not sure why you would think that.

The bench isn't empty. The 10th, 11th, and 12th scholarship players just transferred. As of now the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th guys are still here (Puff, Dunn, Trimble, and Washington.)

We need to find out which starters are staying and build around them with transfers and reclassed 2024 talent. We need to prioritize 3pt shooters.

I watched some of the full game replays from last March. Our offense was so much more sophisticated because Love and Manek forced defenses to space out.

A lot of Warriors actions. Pretty elaborate back cuts off overplays. Find a couple of players that can shoot the ball and I think it fixes a lot of problems.

I even think our PG issues can be fixed if we make open 3’s.

This is regardless whether Caleb comes back or not. But if Caleb comes back, the season will come down to whether or not he shoots 35% from 3 or not.

This isn’t all that complicated. We can’t shoot 31% from 3 no matter our roster.

But you said all those guys were horrible in practice. With all these horrible, no talent guys on the team it's amazing that Hubert figured out how to win 20 games.

Please stop attempting to twist my words just because you're having emotional problems.

I heard one person say if Love returns 4-5 people will transfer and that if he doesn't it might only be one of that bunch. Could be nonsense, but I thought it was interesting. They insinuated that Love caused locker room issues/chemistry issues. No idea if true.
I just don't see Caleb being a disturbance. With his low shooting percentage, his teammates would have definitely let it slip if he wasn't liked.

Simple. It fits his narrative.
I have no narrative. I've consistently said it's going to be three years before we can see how Hubert can really perform as a coach. That doesn't mean we can't be critical, though. But Amy shows up out of the blue and starts calling for regular posters to be banned because she doesn't like their opinion. Then wants to claim she knows exactly what happens at practice. That's not how it works.

It is really as simple as we got weak scoring from 2 of the 5 starters and another 1 was a back to the basket guy that did very little from the mid range. To compound matters even more, we positioned our weakest shooters out beyond the 3pt arch, much of the time on the other side of the court, allowed their defenders to leave and go double someone else. Yet we blame Caleb and RJ when they were having to put up desperation hard shots at the end of the shot clock?

I'm not twisting anything. I'm enjoying watching you do all these mental gymnastics so you can blame everything but the coaching.
I've been critical of the coaching. I started a thread saying Hubert needs to be fired. You even posted on it on page 3, so you are fully aware I've blamed Hubert for his coaching. https://northcarolina.forums.rivals...-my-buddy-his-job-but-hubert-has-to-go.90312/

There is something seriously wrong with you. You make post after post that is in no way grounded in reality. I'm putting you on ignore. Considering how broken mentally you continue to behave, I suspect you'll continue trying to talk to me day after day even though you're fully aware you'll only be talking to yourself.

Just in case you haven't put me on ignore yet, I wanted to let you know how weak it is to put someone on ignore just because they called you out for being fake.

Who is amy? 😏😂
Legit question😐

Ignore is self-censorship... Fingers in ears.
I don't put posters on ignore, I have been sorely tempted to but have refrained. I don't think we solve issues by closing off our eyes and ears to different opinions, I believe the only way to handle issues with others effectively is to try to talk. The problem with that is people don't seem to know how to talk any more, they are all about talking at you rather than to you. Even those I disagree with, I will still try to understand their opinion on the topic, even while they refuse to do the same with me. One of the many things lost in the world todays seems to be the ability respectfully debate a topic of disagreement, things break down very quickly now days attacking those you disagree with on a personal level. When you are attacked you attack back and escalate it a degree and it gets hotter and hotter. "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you" has become do unto others and laugh about it? We seem unable to do that on this board because we don't seem to be able to correct this as a nation so we now are forced to follow things that we do not agree with just to try to get along as best we can, we are force fed BULL CRAP and demanded to go along with it without the ability to have your side even considered. I try to do my little part where I can and hope that maybe a few will listen so I have to keep my eyes open to see some things I would rather not see and ears open to hear things I would rather not hear but that gets harder to do nearly every day.

Outside of Washington’s upside, yea, the bench is empty. Puff is never going to be his brother, but he regressed tremendously the latter part of the season. Dunn is a great athlete, but I never could see what he contributed on the court that gave him the playing time he got. Contributed little offensively and got beat often on defense. Trimble? Looked promising back before Christmas, but his appearances as time went on turned more into dribbling exhibitions that ended up with no where to go. Combine that with the fact that he cannot shoot and I don’t see much there. So with the exception of hoping Washington turns into everything folks say he could be, that bench is empty
