We're about 20 minutes away from first pitch in Gainesville. Word is that Michael Russell -- who has been battling back problems -- will be starting at shortstop today for UNC.

Yeah! That first batter gave him some trouble -- too many pitches -- but he looks like he has settled in a bit with two Ks.

Nice snag by Lassiter. He's had some struggles at 3rd this season so good to see a confidence builder like that. Thornton at about 27 (?) pitches through 2 innings. We need him out there as long as possible.

Okay, I get hung up on this stuff, but it looks like the SS's foot left the base before he had the ball from the second baseman. Looked like it even more in the slow-mo replay. Guess you're not going to get that call though.

Lassiter can't get the ball out of his glove and LBSU gets an infield single.

Ball in the dirt puts the runner in scoring position.

Sacrifice advances the runner to 3rd with 1 out.

LBSU with the double steal. The throw to 3rd was a little late and Lassiter didn't get the tag down quickly. On target though.

So 2 RISPs, 1 out, count is 2-2. Thornton really, really needs a K here.

Batter got a hold of a 1-1 pitch but it sliced foul, thank goodness.

Thornton up to 76 pitches.

Base hit and the throw to the plate is just a hair too late. 2 runs score.

Passed ball (in the dirt) allows runners to advance to 2nd and 3rd.

Forbes out to the mound again. Thornton really fell apart there after looking so good through 3. He goes 3.1 innings and Kelley will come in to try to put this fire out.

Kelley gets the final two outs but the 4th inning was a disaster for UNC. Sucks to think it all started with the inability to make a routine defensive play, but that has been the story of the year for the Heels.
