UNC vs MIAMI GAME THREAD

Was at game and didn’t see Jones Angell doing the play by play. Did I miss him or was he not there? If he wasn’t why?

There should have been better defense to force him to use more time bringing the ball up court.
I agree, we made it way too easy to advance the ball to mid court. We were already in OT mode.

Great game. Both teams were mediocre defensively, but both shot very well from the field, inside and outside the arc. We lost the game at the FT line, pure and simple. We played well enough to beat about anyone yesterday, but when those long distance heaves at the buzzer go in, it means Miami was destined to win.

Hate it for the seniors, sure wish Joel could have been steadier from the line like he normally is. I’m sure he feels bad today.

Who cares if it was a travel or not? It wasn't called so move on. What I want to know is why we keep making these crazy three's to tie ball games just to have a prayer go down at the buzzer. Sickening!!!

Wow! Had to go to bed early last light but I recorded the game and just watched it without a clue as to how the game went. Heartbreaking! Absolutely heartbreaking.

Let that Miami kid shoot 10 shots from 45 feet, bet he doesn't make very many if any.
IMO, our team did not look its best, made some very silly TO's but to fight back into it, thinking OT, to have a low percentage shot fall at the buzzer is tough for our kids. I still love this team.

For everyone that wanted a travel call in that situation.... If that were Berry who nails a walk off runner from 35 feet, then it gets waived off due to a travel according to the rule book... I'm sure everyone here would act really civilly in that hypothetical situation.

Don't know if anyone noticed but I've watched this play at least 5 times, did anyone else notice how many steps Newton took before releasing his prayer. That was a travel even by NBA standards
Yep, he covered about twenty five feet with three huge strides. Last dribble was ten-fifteen feet on OUR side of midcourt.

But DAYUM, how do you just let the kid come up the court unimpeded? You've got to make him go east west a little, and he would never have made it to midcourt.
The Villanova defense.

Guys I hate to say it but it wasn’t a travel. You don’t count the step that he’s picking the ball up. The step count starts after the ball is picked up so it wasn’t a travel. He took two really long steps and made a heck of a shot but there was no travel. It sucks but it is what it is. On to Saturday. #Heels

Yep.

That said, even if they had gotten up closer there is a guy on the right wing literally wide open for 3 also. Surprised he didn't get passed to.

I was more irritated with the bad passes by Joel and Theo that cost us immediate points and the bad ball screen defense by Luke at times. A 17% 3 point shooter hitting a prayer 40 footer wasn't what put them in jeopardy of losing the game. It was getting down by 16 points with careless play. Hope this group realizes to go as far as possible requires 40 min of effort every game.

Let’s not downplay the importance of how awful Seventh Woods was when on the floor in the first half. Something like -12 or -14 in his 4 first half minutes. We were something like -18 combined with Seventh and then Platek in the floor.

Roy has done a nice job in shortening the bench as we don’t have many serviceable options on the bench. Brooks gave us a nice lift last night but other games he looks awful. Same for BRob and others. Just no consistency from the bench, other than they are consistently inconsistent.

I'm not saying Seventh didn't play poorly, but wasn't his time on the floor in the first half when the Miami big scored like 15 straight points?

I am a big Seventh believer and even I will admit he has been straight garbage since he returned. He was good this year prior to the injury.

The Bad:
Seventh had three turnovers in four minutes
Missed free throws by Berry, Maye, Johnson
Too many turnovers
Poor defense for long parts of the game
Bad start to the second half
Coach had no timeouts left at the end
The Good:
Gutsy, gritty comeback
Theo and Joel at crunch time (FTs aside)
This team doesn't quit
Coach had no timeouts left at the end
