USA TODAY says the best Q in North Carolina is....................

That's not a good comparison. You can always get good BBQ somewhere else. No need to eat bad/average BBQ.
So I'm supposed to road trip a couple hours every time I want cue? GMAFB.
As far as women go, you can't get better than a 4.

I'll be eating lunch at Wilber's 4 weeks from tomorrow, a tradition we've enjoyed on our travels to the beach.

No beaches last year, so this trip thru Goldsboro is going to be cherished believe me . . what could be better than eastern Carolina 'cue, being at the beach and watching our football game against JMU with a second plate of 'Cue, boiled potatoes, slaw and hush puppies. . . ?

What beach do you go to?

Smithfield is good because it's convenient. I eat shredded cheese, too. Deal with it.

There aren't any especially good cue joints in Charlotte, so my standards are low. It's like banging a 4.
This is just sad. Why is it big cities in the South aren't flush with great BBQ joints? I know there is usually one or two that are pretty good in most large Southern cities, but per capita, there should be more. I don't get it. It's some of the finest food on the planet.

And it's easy to do. Figure out a good smoking process, throw in a hog, make a killer sauce, throw in some southern sides, and bam, you got yourself a BBQ joint.

It's not that easy If you do it the old way like the really great ones do.

Our fall trips are to Topsail, we pop into Wrightsville in late April/early May.
We stayed a few days in Southport a month or so ago. We took a ferry from Southport over to Ft. Fisher and up through Wrightsville and to Wilmington and had lunch at indochine.

So duck paired with a curry seasoning? Do tell me more about this.
From their menu:

ROASTED DUCK WITH RED CURRY 21.99 Roasted duck, de-boned, and marinated overnight in a red curry sauce, blended with coconut milk, kaffir lime, shrimp paste, pineapple, lychee, tomatoes, and onions. An Indochine specialty!

They have a really wide variety, so every time I go I fight this battle between trying something different vs. having my go-to favorite. My other Indochine must-have is their wasabi pork dumplings.

God almighty that's sounds good!

Smithfield's uses big electric cookers that hold something like 20 shoulders at a time. Each store used to have at least 2 cookers that were set and left to cook for 6 hours. No gas.

I'm sure this will irritate @TarHeelNation11 , but I would rather be watching JMU at the beach eating some good BBQ than watching it at Kenan.
Everything you do irritates me so I'm used to it.

@UNC71-00 and @UNC '92 how's the view from that high horse? Smithfield's BBQ is damn good for a fast food chain. Don't tell me it sucks because it doesn't.

@heelmanwilm Dickey's is also really really friggin good for a chain. I agree that their sides are off the hook too. And yes, absolutely a nap is needed after eating there. Damn.

And yes, I agree with @Raising Heel that standards get dropped if you don't live in Eastern North Carolina.

THN11 out.

You're from Georgia, so why the hell are you even talking about BBQ? Just keep your mouth shut and get back to tinder.

By the way, I also like tomato-based BBQ.

latest
Wait a minute RH are you talking about that crap like Kraft sells or are you talking about Lexington style sauce? Lexington style is not tomato based. Eastern style and Lexington style are almost the same, the only difference is Lexington style has a little ketchup. People try to make out like there is a big difference but there's not.

I haven't hit Sauceman's yet. We have Mac's, Midwood Smokehouse, Queen City Q, etc. They're all "fine" but none of them are anything special.

Midwood is pretty good. Saucemans is OK, Mac's is good but inconsistent. Bubba's is ok, same with Bill Spoons. Kyle Fletcher's and RO's in Gaston County are both pretty good.
