Very quick stuff (dook game 2)...

He's giving up on his team. Not a heck of alot of HOF coaching in the first half, let alone the entire game. Have some meds and scotch LOM...slink on over to your suite at the psych ward.
Something DES nor RW has "never" done.
You coach the kids "you recruited" and you coach them "every game" until the season ends. Just that simple.

I'm taking David Noel's position on this one folks! As the cliche goes "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me".

Enjoy this one folks and save all the negative stuff when the Heels get knocked out of the Dance.

I assume KJ will have the same option to return as our other seniors. Don't know if that's true. I raised that question a while back and don't recall hearing a clear answer.

Assuming he could return, would he want to? Would Roy want him?

As for not being good enough, we're only talking about a few minutes per game of backup. He'll be fine for that.

I agree that we don't really want to distract Kerwin from his main job. And I also agree that Roy might be well advised to look for a good option via the transfer route.

And of course this all assumes Caleb leaves. Something I put at no better than 50:50. But that could change with good tournament performances. Plus, as some have said, his body language isn't that of someone who is thrilled to be here.

I don't see Caleb drafted in the first round. But if he wants to leave and is willing to go in the 2nd round, I'm reasonably sure someone will pick him up - even if only to send him to the G League.

Glancing at NBAdraft.net, their mock draft is quite rich in PGs. Eight of them in the 1st round - meaning Caleb faces lots of competition.

Alternatively, I suggest we reactivate Kendall's remaining year of eligibility.
We saw the same calls for Miller, Rush, etc to play I previous years. Don't think walk-ons are anywhere near good enough to play rotation minutes at UNC (please don't use Maye as an example, not comparable). I would bet dollars to donuts it's not KJ as backup.

I don't really understand the mentality of our blowout win should have been bigger. Seems like a depressing mentality to have. If we can be upbeat after a loss, like some here have been, then surely we can be upbeat after a blowout win. We made mistakes, but no more than we normally do, so I'll take this win as a win.
My thoughts as well. I've come on here after we've had losses that were ugly as hell to watch lipstick get put on that pig, and now that we had a great win against dook of all teams, it's apparently subpar?

I guess if #3 played more, it would have been a better win even though it likely would have caused it to be a nail biter.

In the first half UNC played possibly their best overall game of the season. There was one stretch where they forced shot clock violations on two consecutive possessions followed by live ball turnovers. Overall the shooting was what I had hoped it would be this season in terms of averages instead of more of an outlier. 4 guys in double figures shows pretty good balance, especially when it breaks down to 2 in the front court and two in the backcourt.

In the second half UNC didn't show as much panic as it was exhibited poor execution. After they built that 15/18 point lead early in first half they essentially maintained it the last 30 minutes. Maybe I am just still bitter over that 30 point beatdown at HIS a few years back but it seemed like some complacency set in. I would not expect to see Roy try to run up a score against anyone but after the Heels got that nice lead I did not sense the same killer instinct - maybe that's a by product of guys leaving early and not building that 4 year hatred of dook.

20 turnovers will not beat a good team, and if those 20 turnovers are accompanied by average UNC shooting this season it will not win a first round game in either ACC or NCAA tourny. Dook really helped UNC look good - they are just an average team that did not play well. A lot is attributable to UNC but if I was a dook fan I would probably feel how I did after our games against Clemson and UVa.

I will never feel bad after a double digit win against dook but after the first 12 minutes the Heels did not impress me as much. Also, I was disappointed that k didn't look pissed after the game, he just looked like he didn't really care.

I thought our 1st half defense was pretty good too. The 2nd half? Not so much. The poor passing and TO's (20 w/ 13 of them steals by the dookies) sullied what could have been most likely the worst beatdown that the Rat has historically had at the hands of UNC. We shoulda skull drugged them for 30+. Then, I would have had a palpable peace in my life. But.... for the record, I am in general, happy with this years sweep of those bastids.

We won the first half by 16 and led by over 20 at points in that first half, that indicates we were both scoring and defending effectively. We won the second half by 2 and yet still hit the 90 mark so we scored but clearly they scored more in that second half. So clearly our defense was more stout in the first half.

Now if you look at that from a coaches view, the coach is both upset at that second half defense (because it is the latest view of our defense so the most fresh memory) and yet as well knows that it is harder to expand on a solid lead coming out of a half because players do ease up a bit when they are in front big. Don't forget, the other team comes in to a second half like that embarrassed by getting torched and a coaching staff trying to make adjustments.

Keep in mind a thing we have seen in our own team all season, we have a penchant for getting in to a big hole but have shown the grit in second halves to consistently come back and make a game out of it. OK, so we flipped the script this time, we put them in a big hole and they had to try to claw back and make no mistake, this duke team can claw back in a game when they heat up. We were up over 20 in the second half with around 15mins to go and I was still nervous because I know that duke team can get hot at any minute and see treys close that margin. I didn't relax in this game until the under 3min mark and we were still up near 20. I mean this was UNC vs duke, crazy things happen and I have enough respect over the years to know either of these teams can dig out of a big hole quickly, just as either can dig themselves into a hole to quickly.

But I will promise ya this much, ANY game we win the first half by 16 and still win the second half if only by a single point, I am going to be very satisfied, it being vs duke makes it so much better! The ONLY 2 negatives I can take away from this game, well the 20 TOs was not good and I didn't love the shot selection from our PGs at times while at other times I did. Just a handful of heat checks early in the clock I could have done without. But other than that and I do think that was over shadowed by what we did well in this game, I am very happy with this one, very happy!

IIRC the first eight mins or so of the game dook did stink it up, to the point that k pulled his mask down to show it by his facial expression.

Getting a good run in is good for our guys right now. Hope they have a good week coming up.
Duke lost the first quarter by 18 points, 24-6. They lost the game by 18 points. Suggesting they played us pretty even for 3/4 of the game.

We've done that sort of thing a few times over the years. A couple of Kansas losses come to mind. So, yeah, that first quarter should be an embarrassment to K.

I wonder how badly the Duke boards are melting down over this season. They may deserve to melt down. It's been a while since K hasn't managed to have his freshmen-loaded squads playing well by this stage in the season.

I've noticed the TV announcers saying "welcome to our world" on behalf of most other schools who struggle with freshmen and don't know if they will play in post season. It's a good point.

Then who?

Serious question.

Unless Roy has some transferring PGs on speed dial or thinks Ant can backup at point, what happens if RJ is in foul trouble or sick or just has a bad game?

As for Ant, he has good quickness and energy - although his energy and demeanor seem to have taken a hit recently. Should Roy be telling Ant to work on PG chops in the off season? Should Ant be doing that even if Roy doesn't tell him to? In Ant's shoes, I probably would be thinking that way.

You guys are ridiculous! Dude just calls it like he sees it whether anyone agrees with him or not, get over it & at least accept that. Not to mention he knows about 10x more about basketball than 90% of the people that post on here. NOWHERE in the OP did he mention Platek. You guys are at best, inferring, & at worst, reaching for shit to rock the boat (or visa versa). I’m ecstatic with a sweep of dook this year, & in particular with the beat down last night, but this team is not all of a sudden perfect, we still have plenty of flaws. Let’s all enjoy the win, & the dark side’s misery, no matter what kind of glasses we look at it with.
Always good to hear from Gary's Publicist and critics.

I think Love will stay. Love, RJ, Leaky, Ant, maybe a transfer.

Is it next year that kids will be able to go directly from HS?

If so, that could be more incentive for some players to leave now, to avoid a more crowded draft.

Or would the number of HS additions to the draft be so few that it doesn't really matter?

Storm Murphy from Wofford is in the transfer portal. He’s an excellent PG and shooter.
Interesting. Only 6'0 but has shot over 40% from deep for 3 years. High TS% all 4 years. Decent assist numbers.

He's a senior who may want to use his free COVID year to showcase himself on a bigger stage. If so, I assume he wants to pull a Carlik Jones, not just be a backup PG for us. But you never know.

I can envision this call:

Storm rains 3's on the pukies! ( He would be our second Storm as well!)

I prefer guards with a little more size, but the level of dog in him is more important! I like the shooting and protecting the ball. Anybody have first hand knowledge of whether he has Tar Heel level chops?

Storm Murphy was instrumental in two Wofford victories over UNC. Fletcher Magee received more attention, but I think Murphy is better
