Walking Dead - possible SPOILERS!

I haven't this show in a while. Last episode I watched was I think when the terrible character who let Daryl out ran away. I guess I need to catch up but it got kind of stale and I just lost interest.

Tonight's episode was pretty damn good IMO.
I thought it was ok. I'm not a big fan of the whole flash forward thing so...

I could have done without the whole gray beard Rick thing. And what the hell is up with using Weird Al music? That just didn't fit well.

Completely agree. I hate all of those dream sequence type scenes

Yeah the music was interesting, I was like "of all the songs to use" and I say that as a fan of him.

I really liked the episode as a whole, there were a number of interesting callbacks to the first episode, like the final shot mirrored Rick in the tank, there was the girl walker at the gas station, Rick waking up in a new situation.

As for the flash forward stuff, I read that they are blending timelines all season, so get used to a lot of that in this season.

I'd like to have them start exploring how all this happened, what started the outbreak of zombiephilia;)

I like Fear The Walking Dead, but I thought they really missed an opportunity to explore the beginning of the outbreak. They did a little bit, but quickly moved to the aftermath. They could have done a lot more with the initial outbreak, the breakdown of order, and the rending of the social fabric. They could have spent a whole season on what they covered in 2 episodes.

My thoughts exactly. I was very disappointed that it went nearly immediately into basically same time frame as twd. They’re actually gonna have some cross over episodes i read.

Just watched it last night. I liked the episode, but I have a couple of issues with it:

The showdown with Negan near the beginning doesn't make any sense. So Rick and the group went through all that trouble bringing a ton of guns, ammunition and reinforcing their cars with steel, yet all they needed was a sniper off in the distance somewhere, and Negan would be gone as soon as he came out to address everyone. To make it worse, Gabriel ends up being alone in a trailer with Negan with an assault rifle. He does nothing. Dude, light him up, WTF?

Overall, it was enjoyable like it always is, but it's just things like the spoiler above that frustrate me about this show.

Yeah, that one was weird. It didn't make much sense.

Has Gabriel ever killed a living person? With him still considering himself a man of faith, that might hold him back from killing a living person. That's the only reason I could think of.

This show has turned into an absolute disaster.

So the Saviors miraculously cleared out all the walkers in an unbelievable short time and nobody knows how. All we get is "Oh, it was Eugene." I guess he's some sort of magical miracle worker now. So all is well in Savior land now. Not just that, they also had enough time to plot out a plan to stop Maggie's group from heading over there by cutting down a tree AND to overtake Alexandria and the Kingdom. Those Saviors must be super soldiers or something. Meanwhile, Maggie's group is rather large, but despite this, they're just like "Well, there's a tree there. Guess we're screwed, huh." Oh, wait, there are the Saviors full force with all their guns and supplies in tact just waiting for them. How convenient. And to make it all worse, after all that, Maggie's group just surrenders and hands over their guns without hesitation. SMH Nobody dies either, except some random character that we just got introduced to. Man, that hit me hard. Oh, and is Maggie still pregnant? Sure doesn't look like it.

Rick is the absolute worst leader of all time. Why does he still give a shit about these trash people? The moron leaves everyone, heads out alone and tries to make another deal with them. He's taken prisoner (shocker), and somehow turns into Batman and takes everyone out (they have guns) while handcuffed and threatens their leader. Did I mention they still have guns? Why don't they just shoot him? It's just one man making a scene. Again, SMH. They end up running away after the Saviors clear the sanctuary, so it was all for nothing anyway. Waste of time.

Oh, and Carl's gonna die, and I can't find myself to care. He was bitten trying to save some random dude nobody gives a shit about, so he deserves it. Hell, he probably won't die. The producers will probably just ignore it like they've done with Maggie's pregnancy and he'll somehow be back and good as new.

The show sucks, and it's a shame. Rant over.

I didn't read your spoiler but I haven't watched since about middle of last season. It was getting stale to me. I'm assuming by your comment that it's probably not gotten any better this season ?

I agree that the episode wasn't very good, but...

So the Saviors miraculously cleared out all the walkers in an unbelievable short time
They specifically said during the episode that they weren't cleared out.

nobody knows how
They specifically said during the episode that Eugene used the music to make a hole. Daryl's dumb ass helped them also by making a hole were all the walkers would go in and the place wouldn't be surrounded. Daryl is beyond dumb.

Not just that, they also had enough time to plot out a plan to stop Maggie's group from heading over there by cutting down a tree AND to overtake Alexandria and the Kingdom. Those Saviors must be super soldiers or something.
I'm guessing a decent amount of time had passed. Remember they escaped during the day and they stopped them at night. Plus they were trapped for a while and I'm sure they would come up with a simple plan. They will probably have a flashback at some point.

Rick is the absolute worst leader of all time.
Not really. His problem is the people around him seem to always screw something up. I guess he could kill everyone around him, but that probably wouldn't help him in the long run.

Why does he still give a shit about these trash people?
It should have been obvious that the saviors still have the numbers. They need the trash people and seaside to have a chance.

Okay, but how? Dwight destroyed his cute little iPod plane and Michonne, Daryl, etc. stopped some random savior from getting a truck full of speakers, so I'm not sure where this came from. Maybe I missed it? Agreed on Daryl, not sure what his deal is. So he's been on the same page with Rick up until just recently, and all of a sudden, he decides to throw down with Rick, go rogue and do something stupid. Everyone on this show is so unbelievably stupid that it's comical.

Not really. His problem is the people around him seem to always screw something up. I guess he could kill everyone around him, but that probably wouldn't help him in the long run.
You don't think confronting a bunch of people who just tried to kill you all alone isn't terrible leadership? If you really need them back on your side, why go alone in the first place? He would have been killed on the spot if the trash people had any sense. Not that anyone on this show does or anything.

I'm seeing that my decision to stop watching 1.5 seasons ago was a good one. It's a soap opera with zombies now. Boring.

It was the best when everyone was on the run.

Not sure. I'm assuming they are going to say more at some point. It's not like Negan is going to stop in the middle of a fight with Rick and just say FYI this is how we escaped.

I don't think it's terrible leadership. It's taking a big risk, but at that point everything was under control and the leader clearly has a thing for Rick since she didn't actually try to kill him during the original fight. If she wanted to kill him she would have shot him in the head. It was a big risk, but it was a calculated one.

If you really need them back on your side, why go alone in the first place?
I don't think they would have been willing to switch sides again if Rick goes in there guns blazing.

Actually, I think this has been a pretty good season. Last nights episode wasn't that good compared to the rest of the season though. And if all you were interested in was them being on the run then you would love this season. It's been almost all action sequences. Maybe 20% of it has been dialogue.

I'm assuming they are going to say more at some point.
I doubt it. As lazy as the writing is, I'm sure they'll just go with it.

Fair enough

They don't have to go in guns blazing. It's just that Rick's threat of "accept our deal or we'll kill you" would carry more weight if he wasn't the only one there. He probably wouldn't have to lay in some makeshift cell naked either.

Maybe, but I would think Rick is going to want some answers now that Corral is going to die.

The problem with doing that is he would have to pull his people from other places to do that. Everyone that was capable of fighting was already fighting somewhere else. I don't think giving Judith a glock would have intimidated them much.

But I do agree with the overall sentiment that the episode wasn't that great. The weakest this season so far. I'm thinking the next episode or two will clear some things up or at least I hope it does..

Hope Carl's girlfriend or whatever she is gets it too. I fast forwarded through most of that annoying ass car ride with her and the gay dude.

I just wanted to resurrect this thread by saying the first two episodes of the second half of the season have been terrific. Hopefully the show is taking a turn for the better now.

I'm just glad Gimple will not be directing the show anymore after season 8.

Too bad AMC already ruined the show by killing off the future of the story because they didn't want to pay Chandler Riggs. Looks like Lauren Cohen (Maggie) may be going the same way.

I always found Carl to be annoying anyway, so I don't really care he's gone. I forgot about Lauren Cohen though. They really need to figure that situation out, or else I don't know what they're gonna do. By the way, Maggie is still pregnant, right? lol She's sure showing no signs.

Apparently Maggie is due on Judith's high school graduation date.

Eh, the first one was ok, but the second one seemed kinda stupid because...

of the conversation between Rick and Negan. Rick just gets finished telling his dying son he's going to try to stop fighting then gets on the radio and tells Negan he's going to kill him? That's just dumb. And to make it worse Carl's letters ask them both to stop. I think Rick has completely gone off the rails at this point.

I think that's what's so fascinating about it. Rick's hatred for Negan is so extreme that he's willing to go against his dead son to make sure he's dead. When he read Carl's letter to Negan, it was almost like he was angry at Carl for even thinking that way. Rick isn't any more of a good guy than Negan is, really. Both want to preserve life for their people (except for, in Negan's case, anyone who betrays him), but they go about it in different ways. Rick basically wants to annihilate anyone who poses as a threat to his people and Negan wants to use them, and of course, force his will upon them in unthinkable ways. It's just fascinating to me.

How much do you guys want to bet that babies conceived after the apocalypse starts don't have the virus/are immune? I'm pretty sure that's how the tv show will end now.

The vague generational handoff of power from Rick to Carl is what most fans were expecting for the comic book ending. Buuuut now carl is gone in the show. Because fukkin AMC is like the EA Sports of television.

Carl's death is far more insignificant if that's the new ending. He was probably one of the youngest children left that was born before the outbreak. So he isn't the future. Judith and Maggie's baby are. Which obviously will be male...

Is this the last season?
No, they've already signed on for season 9. It's just that Lauren Cohen's (Maggie) contract expired and they haven't come to an agreement yet. Plus, she signed up for a starting role on another show, so even if she did sign an agreement, she's most likely on borrowed time anyway.

Watched the 2nd episode of this half of the season last night, it was ok but agree with others that the conversation between Rick and Negan was stupid. I'm ok with them having the conversation but it accomplished nothing other than letting the viewer know that Negan was sad about it. Also if they had shown that trash lady's feet any longer I likely would have given up on this show. I have to wonder if there is something else going on at the dump since Negan's lieutenant was asking about solar panels, etc....

Yeah, there's something happening at the dump. Those trash people might be smarter than we thought. How Rick handled that situation was dumb too. He did the exact opposite of what Carl wanted him to do by leaving her there.

Yeah, for like no reason at all. At this point if she is willing to help she's at least another body for the fodder that you don't give a shit about rather than someone Rick's known for 5 years.

Thoughts on the finale?

It felt kind of rushed to me. Like the writers knew this season wasn't going over well so they wanted to close the book on it as fast as they could. I thought it deserved a 90-minute finale, but I guess it did what it supposed to do. It just felt anticlimactic. Also, it looks like Maggie is going to be the antagonist for season 9 (if Lauren Cohen signs on). That's cool, I guess, but having Daryl and Jesus agree with her is kind of stupid. Daryl just showed mercy to Dwight by letting him go, and he's all like "yeah, we'll show Rick for letting Negan live." Okay, dude, whatever you say. Jesus has always been Mr. Peacemaker, and now he's supposedly pissed at Rick too. At least Maggie being pissed actually does make sense since Negan murdered her "husband" in front of her. Anyway, looking forward to how season 9 shapes up, hopefully with much better writing.
