can someone explain this movie to me?

i recorded it a few years ago and i refuse to delete it...can't figure why i like it, though.

i did absolutely no research before or since...is this based on a comic book?...like a darker version of marvel and dc(which i can't into at all other than the dark knight movies with bale).

i literally find something new every time i watch this.

If I remember correctly it's based on a DC comic. Zack Snyder directs it and he was a producer on the dark knight movies. he is largely credited with using the darker tone you refer to in all of those movies and the rest of the DCEU. The comic had a darker tone as well.

The comic was a limited 12 issue series written by Alan Moore (a relatively controversial name in comics because he is a talented dude but also totally bananas) and published by DC. Moore also wrote V for Vendetta, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and The Killing Joke which is a pretty famous Batman story. The comic is considered one of the greatest graphic novels ever written, and was recognized by Time Magazine as one of the 100 best novels ever (not just graphic novels, but novels). The comic was intended to be a realistic, darker look at a team in the vein of the Justice League, and how the world would really react if there were superhumans like these.

Snyder did direct this movie and has been the lead person for the DCEU (Directed Man of Steel & Batman v. Superman, producer for Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, was directing Justice League until a personal tragedy in his family) but he was not involved in any way in the Dark Knight Trilogy. So he doesn't really get credit for those being dark, but a number of his other works have been fairly dark (300, Sucker Punch).

The film adaption of Watchmen has been a bit of a mixed bag among viewers and fans of the comic. They do significantly alter the ending in the movie, which was divisive. I saw the movie before I read the comic series, but having read it and rewatched it, there are a number of shots that come right out of the comic, and so I appreciate Snyder's commitment to the source material in a number of ways. There are some parts of the movie that are a little weak in my opinion, but overall, I do enjoy this movie and think it gets a little too heavily criticized. Rorshach, The Comedian, and Nite Owl all have very interesting arcs, and are all portrayed very well.

I enjoyed the movie as well, but it would have benefited from some better editing. That seems to be a reoccurring problem with him, because I think that was one of the biggest problems with B vs. S as well.
