They stuck with Lowe for pretty long. He could recruit, but couldn't win.
Gott started well (with Lowe's recruits) but has had trouble keeping the larder full. This year he has talent and depth yet still doesn't seem to be able to put together a happy, well-functioning team.
In 18 full seasons with 3 schools, he's winning at a 64% clip, has been to the NCAAT 11 times and the NIT another 4. He has had 1 losing season, his second year at Alabama. Those aren't Carolina or Duke numbers but they are very respectable. They certainly suggest he knows what he is doing.
It would be interesting to know the inside story. Is he having the kind of in-house problems that Matt had here? Something else?

Who would want that job? Can they get anyone who is "known" or are they stuck with some no-name youngster for whom this is a big step up?
