Who starts at the 2 guard position with Marcus gone?

I like SW as well but he is clearly third and might be behind 7th before its all said and done. I expect KW to get the start because he put in the work on D and I think his shooting probs were all mental!

Don't sell Strickland short on athleticism. He never got completely healed from the knee injury, but before that Dex was a blur --- one of the fastest guys we ever had and could jump out of the gym (which of course 7th can as well). Dex's issue was always consistent outside shooting for a Guard --- he wasn't a natural Point but couldn't shoot well enough to be a legit threat at the 2. 7th is streaky but is already a better shooter.

Agree, Dexter's knee did jade my feelings of his athletism, he was fast when he came to us but some times he was to fast as in he out ran his dribble. He was a open court guy but the teams he played on with us became more half court teams and Dexter struggled in the half court. He did become a solid mid range jump shooter, just for some reason could not take that one step back and hit the treys. I as well agree 7th is a better jump shooter and especially so from distance (3 ball).

^ 7th Woods and that is my point, as a PG very similar to Dexter coming to UNC (qualified to say as a point guard, they are not similar players IMO) and I ask, would a freshman Dexter not be at least 3rd on our PG depth chart next season? I personally think 7th has more raw talent, it is a matter of his learning to play under control. gary, you talk about Dex being fast, Nate is fast to, as is 7th but I recall Ty Lawson. TY was one of the fastest guys ever with the ball but he struggled a bit his frosh season because he tried to play to fast. He was over running the play, Roy had to slow him down to have him allow things to develop. Nate, IMO struggles with this, I call it getting no where really fast. Nate pushes the ball hard on a break but he pushs it to a place on the court where he has no scoring option and has to bring it back out and reset. That misses both the primary and secondary breaks, slow down a tad and allow your mates to get out in to their running lanes and if the primary is not there the secondary will be, aka Joel berry.

I offer you Nate, Kenny Williams, Brandan Robinson, and 7th Woods... Who do YOU see starting and how do you see the rotation working for next season at this position?
If Jackson stays in draft, I move London to the 3 and Start Williams at the 2.
I am on record as saying I see a Donald Williams type breakout in Kenny this year or next.

Mikey, 7th is what I call a streaky shooter, maybe along the same lines as LMac (very different players just trying to relate a streaky shooter to a player was know). I do think he can steady that out as he learns and with coaching. He has been able to rely on freakish athletism in a private school league and didn't have to be the pure jump shooter. He is a kid that will work on the things he needs to work on.

What I love about the kid is he stays in attack mode on BOTH ends of the court and his up side is HUGE and everyone talked about just that until he tried to be a PG last summer and that was not a great fit for him, he handles the ball really well for a 2/3 but as a PG not what you typically want. Brain freeze but some what like (as a PG) the kid we got that wanted ot be the PG in high school but Kyri Irving came in his sr season and he had to try to learn to be a PG for the first time at UNC, same kind of thing with 7th in AAU last summer, so he dropped in the rankings and then got hurt his senior season and dropped more. before all that the kid was easy top 20 and top 10 on some lists.

We are gonna love 7th but just how he fits in for next season is a really good question, maybe deserves its own thread. He will get solid PT IMO just where is the real question.
David I have been comparing 7th to former UofL guard Russ Smith for a while now. Freakish athletes, streak shooter and more combo than true point. How does that sound to you as a comp?

Russ Smith, yeah, I can see some of that, definitly more a combo than true point.

I would love for Roy to start 7th from day one. Kid is going to be a monster.
Roy is very loyal & will start Nate.

I really don't much care who begins the game as our 2 guard, I care more about who gets the more playing time. All 4 guys will get a shot at solid PT now that our star 2 guard has graduated. We don't have that absolute 30+ mins a game 2 guard now, it will be played some what by committee but one of the 4 of Nate, Kenny, BRob, or 7th will emerge and get the tilt of more PT.

If it is close Roy will default to the more experienced guy and that is Nate, it is going to be a closer call early because the 2 frosh have to adjust to the college game and Kenny has so far only had spot duty minutes.

Yes, total minutes (and who is in during crunch time) really mean more than who starts. Roy will start Nate in the beginning of the season - regardless of who is best for the spot. Before this past year I would get all worked up if we lost a couple games before New Years due to sub-optimal rotations. But this year showed me that it's possible to rebound from unexpected losses like that and still get a #1 seed - so now I'm more ok with it.

Roy will play Nate the lions share at the 2, and we'll lose a game or two in December as a result. I just hope that by late conference play, Roy is willing to give either KW or 7th or Brob the nod there if any of the 3 of them have earned it. We're pretty sure of what we're gonna get from Nate - which is decent. But I think we all hope that one of the other 3 have the ability to be better than that. Just need to give them the opportunity if they earn it, and not be loyal to a fault.
