Wilcher

Unreal. Miss the days folks wanna compete for PT instead of just having it handed to them.

What’s the deal, anyways? He wasn’t starting regardless if EC was ‘23 or not…

Kinda makes sense. The roster makeup from when he committed to now is totally different. As a combo he wants some point time as well. He was now almost certainly #3 behind Cadeau and RJ for meaningful court time as a point as a freshman.

An example of why I was fully in the Cadeau reclassify camp. A lot can change in a year with programs nowadays.

And I hate to say it, but Carolina "Family" seems to have stopped meaning anything about three months ago.

WTF. He would have been in the rotation as a Freshmen with a good chance to start as a Sophomore.

Bacot didn’t appreciate the laughing emojis on that post either…tweeting out “running from the grind”

Hubert’s mega 2024 class would look pretty meh without Cadeau and possibly without Ian. And now we lose a very good 2-3 year player with Wilcher.

CBB just isn't as much fun ...this being another example.I wish him well..but hey Jay Bilas wanted this crap for years...happy now Jay?

Hey, yinz wanted people recruited over with reclasses. Now you gotta deal with stuff you made fun of dook and UK for.

Hubert better have a plan for using these extra scholarships.

Right now our only backup SG/SF is a transfer from Brown. We also don't have anyone who can defensively shut down a tall small forward.

I've seen the way he talks on the basketball court. I won't repeat it, but his trash talking goes way beyond even the worst stuff I've overheard from NBA players. He talks like a Call of Duty lobby.

On top of that, he's been sliding down the rankings for a while. It's quite possible that you end up being right. That he has a 5-star ego but the game of a 4-year player.

With that said, he filled a need for this coming season. We're going to have to add another wing with Dunn and Wilcher both bouncing.

Worse than when Kevin Garnett told Carmelo Anthony that his wife tasted like honey nut cherrios?

Wilcher really showed his ass on social media this afternoon, but has since deleted the posts.

I have a different reaction then most it seems from the comments.

I do not have an issue with Hubert bringing in a 6th year wing in Ryan and a reclassification elite 1 in Cadaeu. With those additions I also don't have an issue with Wilcher thinking it's not his best fit anymore and moving on.

Decisions made on both ends. Que sera sera.

Just spit ballin here, but does Hubert look at Stevenson reclassification or maybe kicking the tires on Arthur Kaluma who is now in the portal after pulling out of the draft as an additional 4.

Then just going with Ingram and Ryan as main 3's with RJ and Trimble main 2's, Wojcik as break in the case of emergency.

Got to add at least one more guard/wing. We're one backcourt injury away from disaster.

Plus if we're asking Ryan and Wojcik to be our defensive stoppers on 6'8" wing scorers, it could be a long season.

LOL, the 247sports rankings guy just showed up over IC to gloat about how him lowering Simeon's ranking is proof Simeon wasn't ready to compete for playing time against UNC's other guards.

Isn’t Wilcher like a 6’4” combo guard? How was he going to guard 6’8” wing scorers?

He wasn't. I was just assessing the roster. A true athletic wing was a need before Dunn and Wilcher quit on the team. But it appeared we were just going to run a lot of 3 guard lineups, and that hole was not going to be addressed until Powell joins next year.

Now with 3 open scholarships and a major need to add at least 1 more perimeter player, perhaps we can address that need. I don't know what is left in the portal, or if any grad transfers will join later this summer. But if there is a 6'7"-ish athletic wing out there, I'd sell him hard on the fact UNC has no one like him on the roster.

Ok. I do completely agree with you. This team lacks a bouncy wing. This team lacks athleticism really everywhere maybe apart from Cadeau and Trimble.

That could ultimately be this team’s limitation. They may put up really good regular season numbers. Have a really pretty offense. But they’ll match up against a really bouncy and long team in the tournament and it will be a bad matchup.

I remember one of the really good Notre Dame teams ran into Florida State in the tournament where basically every player was 6’6” to 6’11” with huge wingspans and they just suffocated Notre Dame with their length and athleticism.

Kaluma may get our attention and Olivier Nkamhoua seemed ready to choose down to Baylor or West Virginia, he may get a late kick of the tires ?

my new approach: who is in the starting lineup?...who is on the bench?...one game & one year @ a time

Hate this had to happen but honestly I am not really surprised. The way this roster has filled out it has shuffled Wilcher further and further back, it kind of had to be either Seth or Wilcher that backed out and it was more likely to be Wilcher. Why is pretty easy to see if you are wiling to look, this kid is really talented, on the cusp of being potentially 1&D and of course he would need serious playing time to make that happen. Where was that PT going to come from next season?

Do the math, RJ starts at the 2 and Cadeau at the point, forget for a second that Wilcher wanted to play on the ball, we will get to that, where would Wilcher fall in the 2 guard rotation, well it was for sure behind RJ, it was pretty certain behind Ryan as well, so not better than 3rd in the rotation at the 2. Well at 6'4-5" you may suggest that maybe he could play the 3 some, I have consistently shared that I saw the 3 as Ingram to start backed up by Wojick who like Wilcher is as well 6'5" and around 200lbs so why was I not listing Wilcher as maybe the primary back up for Ingram at the 3 would be legit to ask? It is because as a 2 Wilcher would still handle the ball some and there is a open question of who the primary back up for Cadeau will be, I prefer that to be Seth but it could have well been a competition between Wilcher and Seth, we would have to see how that fell out. In my view that put Wilcher no better than a tie for now as to who backs up Cadeau but could very easy end up 3rd there as well yet he wants to be on the ball.

Before Cadeau reclassed, I argued that I would have still moved RJ to the 2 and because I am just not a fan of RJ at the point, yet we al know RJ was going to be at the point had Cadeau not reclassed. But I agred for Wilcher to be in the mix for PT minutes because the kid plays on the ball now, was told he didn't to the extent I shook my head, not a fan of arguing smoke screen nonsense. Very clearly, for this kid to be on the NBA radar he has to be a PG, fits that NBA metrix much better than he does as a 2 and not in the discussion of a NBA 3. Classic case of a college decision made for a NBA reason, those don't work out so well for us typically.

What you end up with is a kid very possible 3rd in the rotation at the point, could be 4th, 3 in the rotation at the 2, 3rd in the rotation at the 3 (a position he does NOT want to play) and 3rd in the rotation means VERY limited playing time for a kid considered at worst on the cusp of being a 1&D and the result was that didn't work for him and it is understandable rather than surprising. What is surprising is that it took till now for this to happen because Cadeau reclassing was one of the worst kept secrets ever and Seth has not shown any indication that he is looking to do anything but hang in there and fight for minutes, these are not new or surprising developments.

I didn't expect him to help us much this year other than providing depth. Was really looking forward to what he could do in a couple of years. I don't get the idea that he is 1 and done or that he needs to be "on ball" to get to the NBA. The average SG in the NBA is 6'5". If he needs some weight and strength (which he does), he would have been at the right place at UNC. But, how does a kid have the confidence to think he's gonna fast track it to the NBA but not have the confidence that he would crack our lineup for some PT?
