After extensive scientific study and polling, I've determined that you are correct and we just don't care. The top two answers given as to why we don't care were "hockey sucks" and "what's hockey?"
So basically, the US is pretty good at snowboarding stuff and ok at skiing. But we suck at just about all the other winter Olympic sports.

I have much respect for those downhill skiers. Flying downhill at 70mph is nuts.
Those guys that do the skeleton are crazy too. They are basically going down an ice slide head first at the same speed. I'd try it though.
I want to see them add downhill skating at some point. Pretty much a combo of speed skating, skiing, and luge. It looks insane.
