Winter Olympics

I was able to read the paywalled article, which suggests that NBC has the research but refuses to share it. If we're comfortable taking NBC's chief marketing officer at his word* then I stand corrected. That's twice today. Dammit.

* I'd really like to see the numbers, though. What's the male/female split, how do they define "typical sports fan", and what percentage of those folks watch the Olympics? I say that because you have several people on here saying they watch at least some of it. I'm one of them and (ghey alert) happen to really enjoy the opening ceremonies. I like watching the host country try to outdo the ceremonies of years past.
Yeah I agree that it does seem like a very specific narrative that they can support with numbers. I can only back it with personal experience.

I might just watch some of that cross country skiing after all...

there was french or canadian milf last go around that was haf.

she might be still doing it seeing as you can probably curl till you’re 80.

Very difficult. There are lots of logistical challenges with any race that distance, even if you don't want Olympic level tv coverage.

But live drone footage covering the lead pack(s) would be very awesome. They could just rotate in commentators who could provide color commentary about the sport and the runners to keep the casual viewer entertained. Ultra running is blowing up in terms of popularity so maybe it could catch on.

Actually UTMB does a great job of covering their 100 miler. It's not quite Tour de France level, but it's really good. They have drones, helicopters, a studio crew, cameras in the villages and running alongside people on parts of the trails. I'm not positive the race itself provided the coverage--maybe it was one of the ultra websites--but it was well done. I'm heading there this August and nervously excited about it.

Yeah I followed the 2017 race and the coverage was amazing.

Are you going to race? I’m super jealous haha

I haven't watched one second of the Olympics outside of the opening ceremonies, which by the way, was super lame. No one was even in the arena in the stands. It was almost totally vacant.

Anyway, how are we doing in medal count?

That was an incredible run with an Olympic gold on the line. Just nuts. I'm not even that big of a snowboarding fan but that was insane
Same here; I don’t really know that the hell they’re talking about. Most of those flips look the same to me. But you can definitely tell he was money on that last run. Dude came through in the clutch.

White definitely killed it. I know nothing about the sport other than he is apparently THE MAN. Showed it on that last run. My wife was saying she didn’t think that it was that difficult when she saw it last night, but changed her tune when that dude bit it hard and got carted off. Then when White made that last run and soared about 20 feet up, she said that it definitely impressed her.

As for the other sports, I like some of the pairs skating just to see those dudes throw their ladies around like rag dolls and the the ladies nail a landing. Pretty impressive for both involved. Strength, coordination and skill are all required. Can’t help but be impressed.

I don’t get curling, but the Russian babe would definitely make me want to investigate it further.

I actually remember watching the US hockey team take down Russia back in then day and that got me excited about that sport somewhat. When they put the pros in, I didn’t watch much, but now I hear they are back to more ametuers so I may watch it.

My personal favorite is downhill skiing, though. To go that fast and have such a small window to not screw up is

But, like most everything else spots related here lately, athletes and news organizations making everything political has about killed it for me. No one cares who you are sleeping with or if you hate the president. We just want to enjoy the games without the political BS.

And before you liberals blast me, I would say the same to athletes who did the same with a Democrat in office. Keep it out of sports, please. Heck, there are enough opportunities to express your political beliefs without having to do it here.

Just my opinion

Yes. It's taken four years to get through the lottery. Also took me four years to get into Western States. That's why I don't gamble/play the lottery. I'm not lucky at that sort of stuff.
