If we were to lose to Dook and Wake wins at Syracuse we would have the same conference record! Does anyone know who would get the 8th seed? I’m going Wednesday and I’m trying to figure out what session to get! I’d rather get tickets now as opposed to waiting. I know we can also still get 6th place, but seems more unlikely! 6th or 7th means session 3 I believe and an 8th place finish means the noon game and session 2

Basically head to head but if that doesn’t work,

a. When two teams are tied in the standings, regular season head-to-head results are used as the tiebreaker.

b. If the tied teams played each other twice in the regular season and split their games, then each team’s record against the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season standings (or in case of a tie for first place, the next highest position in the regular-season standings) and then continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.

  • 1) When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tiebreaking procedures), rather than the performance against the individual tied teams.
  • 2) When comparing records against a single team or a group of teams, the higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against a team or group is unequal (e.g., 2-0 is better than 3-1; 1-0 is the same as 2-0; 2-1 is the same as 4-2; 1-0 is better than 1-1; 0-1 is the same as 0-3). If the winning percentage of the tied teams is equal against a team or group of tied teams, continue down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.
c. If three or more teams are tied in the standings, the following procedure will be used:

  • 1) The combined record in conference games between the tied teams involved will be compiled. Ties will be broken and seeds assigned based on the winning
percentage of the combined conference records. The higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against the team or group is
unequal (e.g., 2-0 is better than 3-1; 1-0 is the same as 2-0; 2-0 is the same as 4-0; 2-1 is the same as 4-2; 1-0 is better than 1-1; 0-1 is the same as 0-2; 0-2 is the same as 0-4).
  • 2) If procedure (1) fails to break the tie, then each tied team’s record shall be compared to the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season
standings, continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage by a higher winning percentage.
  • 3) If the tie is broken by (1) or (2) regarding one or more teams, but three or more teams remain tied, then procedures (1) and (2) will be re-applied among those tied teams only.
  • 4) If two teams remain tied, procedures (a) and (b) will be followed.
d. If there is more than one tie in the standings, and when using the tie-breaking procedures there are a pair of teams tied, a team’s record against the combined tied teams (prior to their own tie-breaking procedures) is used, rather than performance against the individual tied teams.

e. If procedures (b) and/or (c) fail to establish an advantage, a coin flip to break the tie will be conducted by the Commissioner after the final regular season game before the Conference championship.

f. If a coin flip or draw (for a three-or-more-team tie) is required, the procedure takes place immediately following the conclusion of the last regular-season game prior to the Conference championship. The procedure is administered by the Commissioner or a designated assistant. This session is open to the media and to athletics department representatives from the tied teams.

We are locked into at least the 7th seed now above Wake. We have better records against UVA/Clemson and the same against Pitt/Miami.

So we get either 6th or 7th, which as far as I can tell won't change much.

How could we get the 6 seed over State? We can’t have a better record than them & it seems like they would win a tiebreaker unless I’m missing something. They beat Miami & I think Pitt, we beat neither.

Correct. The highest we can get is 7th. State beat Pitt and Miami.

State actually lost to Pitt! They did beat Miami once though! State lost to uva who we beat and lost twice to clemmy who we beat! So if we win Saturday..we are 6th right? I could be wrong! The tie breaking stuff can be confusing lol

Never mind…I’m pretty sure we will finish 7th if tied with nc state! I misread how ties work

You guys are all incorrect haha. See this sim: http://bball.notnothing.net/acc.php?sport=mbb

If we beat Duke we're the 6th seed, flat out. Us and State are both 1-2 against UVA/MIami (if they have the same record then the combined record against both is what counts). Neither of us have beaten Pitt. We have a better record against Clemson (or the combo of Duke/Clemson if it comes to a tie).

We will be the 6th seed if we win Saturday.

I guess I was right the first time lol either way I guess we will be playing at 7 or 9:30 on Wednesday! Guess I’ll buy tickets for session 3!

Take care of our game Saturday first, then worry about the next opponent, it is March, so survive and advance, make some noise in the ACC Tourney!

Win against puke and let the chips fall where they may! I want to continue this winning run and I don't care who or when we play! (BTW: I ignored the question because the rules made my head hurt!)

Greensboro has a chance to have the Big 4 schools all playing on Wednesday in separate games. Definitely their dream scenario.

I actually slightly misspoke. There is one way we could be a #7 seed while winning vs Duke: if UVA somehow falls to Louisville.

Do not foresee Louisville beating VA., even on their worst day. 👌👌👌👌👌
