Dave says that we are not getting the money because the bosters are holding on to their money because they didn't like the hire and holding their money is their way of protesting.

He also says that the reason thy sucked the year after the NC run was because he didn't have Brady. That team the year after the NC had talent but just like this year he has no clue what to do with it.

His teams have chemistry problems doesn't matter the roster he is always the common denominator! His players are slow to develop or regress constantly.
notshelby, what we should be asking is has there been a $$$ problem AND is there now a money problem? To often reading replies on this topic folks conflate what maybe the situation before to what it looks like now. This $$$ question is fluid, what may have been true yesterday may not be true today?

Consider, Hubert, going in to the portal, how could he not realize that getting a big man that could at very least handle the physicality of opposing big men? How could he not know that a big man like this had to be priority numbers 1-10? LOL Keep in mind, High was already out of the equation, the staff knew what was coming down from High on High, so can't say well he thought he had High, no, that was already done pre-portal. The ONLY possible answer is a complete failure in talent evaluation, making you believe you had more than you actually had.

Considering the guys, other than TYson, that Hubert went after hard as well as what was in my opinion half heartedly, he seemed to realize the glaring need for a big time center. A couple of his priorities either didn't enter the portal or did but didn't stay in it long, maybe he felt he could delay till those guys did enter, bad decision but to an extent I could have understood it. But where he blew it so badly, is he didn't go hard for a back up plan guy to have in hand when he didn't know what plan A guys would end up doing. For example, duke had Masquch the big center coming in but not knowing how he would play they went ahead and brought in the Cuse's center as insurance, Hubert did not take out insurance of maybe a guy like Wolf, ect. In the end the insurance was badly needed but those ships had already sailed. We needed 2 big men, we end up with 2 6'7-8" big men that are both extremely limited and we got those in near desperation. You walked a tight rope without a net and guess what, you fell off the rope, splat!

Just want to add, you said "He also says that the reason thy sucked the year after the NC run was because he didn't have Brady. "... Isn't it funny how folks tend to sing the praise of that first season of Hubert and seem to totally forget that before we beat duke that first time there were legit questions of will UNC miss the NCAAT that season?

Very little stuff (Pitt game)...

I don’t blame Gary for the abbreviated quick stuff. These losses of similar strain are just so hard to watch,
especially for someone who has played and coached the sport.
We are an unbalanced team, with top tier guards, albeit on the short side who DO NOT get their fair share
of calls on drives to the rim. No wonder defenders just clobber them; nothing to lose when you’re not
likely to get whistled.

Our bigs have a variety of deficiencies who cannot get into game flow with the substitution patterns
and we needed J Wash big time last night. I hope he returns quickly to the lineup.

We fight hard (mostly), but our turnovers seem to be instant points for our opponents. Our confidence
late in close games seems to waver; that serves us poorly.
Our schedule has been wacky, with five losses to top 15 teams.

Lastly, as many on this board have stated, Hubert and his staff seem to be struggling with systemic problems,
lineups, recruiting the portal, and working the refs to get “fair” officiating.

After 50 years of watching Carolina’s sports teams, this alum knows nothing but supporting the
athletes that play for my university - win or lose. I will continue to do that and hope that these
guys find some success this season.

This is the entire story in 16 words.

That's 100% coaching, and it appears to be getting worse.

We are way to good at times during the game to blame this all on talent, or size.

I said this before anytime you are as competitive against the quality of team we have played and always come up short late game it's a coaching problem. He has decent game plains and the first time they make a change to counter what we are doing the staff is lost.

Im over it and I would guess about 95% of the fan base is also over it.
Yea great summary statement by Gary but your response to it was really spot on. It's surely something a lot of people are thinking. Great reply

Two Seasons

Early in the season we often played lackadaisically (to put it kindly) in the first half but would crank it up in the second half to pull it out (e.g. Dayton) or almost pull it out (e.g. Kansas).

A lot of us felt that if we could just be more ready, more aggressive out of the gate, we'd do better.

Some of us thought it showed that Hubert was a better halftime coach than a pregame coach.

Now we seem to be better at starting games but fade away down the stretch.

Sure there are exceptions but that's how it seems to me.

To the extent that this is true, why?
We fade in the stretch because the other team counters what we are doing and at that point we are done because our coach has no idea how to make or what adjustments to make to counter them back. I would bet that every team in the country that has the same record as are less talented, we are by far the worse coached team in the ACC and maybe the country.

I'm not certain why ANYONE on this board has not yet put doucheChappel on ignore. He is, by far, the most unpopular, uninformed, repetitive, and negative poster I've seen on this board in a decade.

Since we no longer have a moderator, the only choice is we take away everyone he can annoy and pray he goes away.
I have had that clown on ignore for months now, so nice to not have to deal or read his nonsense. Responding to his nonsense only inspires him to post more it is giving him what he wants. Take away the O2 and the fire dies folks...

BUT having to watch our guys so often have no idea what they're trying to accomplish

This team, this coaching staff and by extension this administration has made me lose the joy I always had watching Carolina basketball. I don’t even recognize the junk I see being displayed and apathy has set in when I expect us to lose against any competition with a pulse. What a sad state of affairs for what used to be such a premier program.

Hubert, if you truly love the program the way you say you do, please self-reflect and address it head on or opt out of the HC gig. This kind of garbage basketball is not what your Carolina predecessors instilled in you.

Very little stuff (Pitt game)...

Last 3 losses UNC is 25/33 from the line while opponents are 57/71. The Heels have had had ONE big score in double digits in those 3 games. Last night Carolina's starting backcourt had more turnovers than the entire Pitt team.

This team's identity is "spurts of really good basketball". There is nothing they do well. They showed a stat last night that UNC has had 9 one-possession games. I cannot recall but it seems the score has been close going into the final 4 minutes in every game except maybe 3.

This team cannot finish games. Between lack of leadership on the court and what appears to be a lack of confidence in the staff this team just looks like they expect to lose now. I will probably watch the game Saturday but I expect a total beatdown. Dook's frontcourt will absolutely eat us alive.
Bubs, right on. As a big TH bball fan, I never miss games so I'll certainly watch on Saturday. However I agree, this could get ugly so sometime towards the end of the second half, I may shut it off. No one wants to see that over exagerated fan base gloating. TBH, I'm a Copper fan, dude has game, don't care if he is a dookie, but hope he goes 0 for 20....

Very little stuff (Pitt game)...

I don't disagree, but if you blame the passer for not knowing his target can't catch a pass, then how many guys do we have that Elliot is allowed to pass to?

Rather than tell Elliot not to make the highlight pass, I'd work on getting our bigs to catch and control the ball better. Are there elements of practice that focus on that? If so, Lubin and some others need to spend more time on that.

Knowing your personnel is a huge part of being a PG. A real floor general is the guy that accentuates a player’s strengths and is aware of and makes decisions based on, his teammates’s weaknesses. EC has played with Lubin long enough to know that he can’t catch that pass. No amount of trining and practice at this point is going to help Lubin catch that pass. It’s not to say that Lubin can’t catch any pass. But EC has to know he can’t catch that pass.

Apparently we do have a mod, they edited my post calling him a dips***. Guess they only care about people saying mean words than about the quality of the board itself 🤷‍♂️

RIP Mike.
