IRS Says Donations Made to Nonprofit NIL Collectives Are Not Tax Exempt

In news that could rock the world of name, image and likeness, the IRS suggests that nonprofit NIL collectives offering tax deductions could be breaking the law. Donations made to nonprofit NIL collectives “are not tax exempt” because the benefits they provide athletes are “not incidental both qualitatively and quantitatively to any exempt purpose.” (Sports Illustrated)

Marcus Paige Question

I know we are all thrilled to have Marcus join the coaching staff. My question is whether he will be able to actually coach our backcourt players, or if he is stuck doing mainly admin things as Director of Team and Player Development.

Can someone clarify that for me?

Cadeau isn't being thrust into the starting PG role ahead of time, like Marcus was, but it can't hurt Cadeau's adjustment to work with a guy like Marcus, who's already been there.

Ian Jackson Makes First Cut At USA Basketball U-19 Team Tryouts

Two commits in UNC's 2024 basketball recruiting class were invited to try out for the USA Basketball U-19 Team this week in Colorado Springs. The first set of cuts trimmed the list to 18 players but only one future Tar Heel made the list. Five-star shooting guard Ian Jackson was one of the 18 to survive the first cut while 5-star wing Drake Powell did not. (USA Today)

Drake Maye, six UNC receivers to enter partnership with Jimmy’s Famous Seafood

Heels4Life, the Name, Image, and Likeness collective of UNC Football, is kicking off a partnership with Jimmy’s Famous Seafood and Jimmy’s Famous Meals. Quarterback Drake Maye and six UNC receivers will begin the partnership in June. They will promote the meal prep service on social media and receive weekly meals for the remainder of 2023.
