Quick late stuff (Dayton game)...

....and take that, bitches!

Well... we got the scrub announcers, the scrub refs and we played like f***ing scrubs for 20 minutes, so I ain't even gonna talk about that sorry-ass half. Also, I'm gonna save the technical analysis for later ITT, and just put out some takes before I hit the hay:

- The first best thing I contributed to my own sanity was turning off the damn TV volume at halftime, lest I try to reach thru the screen and strangle that moron Alexander. Good Lord at his mouth-babbling buffoonery.

- We came out of halftime with the sort of effort and urgency on both ends we need EVERY game. EC set the tone vs their thug-ball defense by taking it right down their fouling throats, but then let his emotions get the best of him and picked up a knucklehead foul. Granted, only due to the incompetence of the aformentioned scrub zebras was that his 4th, but still.... and he got a well-deserved chewing-out from Marcus on the bench.

- But here's where major props go out. Everyone who played in the 2nd half basically refused to back down from the mission and we kept chipping away by getting stops and converting thru constant and major contact --- even though we somehow didn't get into the bonus until less than 7 to go. Unreal.

- On that note, I got one word for RJ and Seth --- #Warriors. RJ turned on the microwave and geez, Seth seemed to be everywhere. And BTW, Seth has turned himself into a helluva FT shooter to boot.

- Hubert rolled the dice and brought EC back in earlier than I thought he would and it payed off as it kicked us into the next gear. Even with them throwing in prayer 3s, we just kept pushing and attacking the rim. We started converting Eliot's dimes (after blowing friggin 10 in the first half), and speaking of 3s, a couple of BIG-TIME conversions by Drake when they swarmed RJ.

- The driving force though was DEFENSE and that started with EFFORT from all 5 guys for the entire shot-clock that had been missing before, and scrapping for the contested balls through grabbing hands. And props to JWash, after getting bullied in the first half, for some crucial individual stops down the stretch while their goon finally fouled out --- and after half-assing at the rim in the first half, finishing strong in the second.

- Finally, that last "offensive foul" on RJ was utter BS, and for the record, I'll go so far as to say the ONLY thing that was gonna keep our guys from completing this classic comeback was that trio of numbskulls in stripes. At least they got the review of stepping on the 3-pt line right, so there's that I guess.

Anyway, as I said, I'll offer some analysis later, and it was an amazing and heartening comeback after falling short at KU... BUT, we'd sure as hell better bring that 2nd half effort from the get-go vs Auburn or we'll get run outta the damn gym tomorrow...

Late late stuff (Hawaii game)...

...and I'll make this very quick.

- Let's get this outta the way: What a lame zebra crew. I've seen these jabronies more than I care to in local games down here --- sure hope we don't get them again in Maui.

- OK... so, I liked the effort and the fact we took a trap game serioiusly, BUT... very lazy on seeing man-and-ball in the 1st half, especially by our 4/5 guys. Fortunately, that improved MARKEDLY in the 2nd.

- Still frustrated watching our Zone Offense. JWash in particular should be a weapon in the 10-12 ft areas.

- On the other hand, JWash was a different player in the 2nd half on defense and rebounding. Really stepped up vs their bulky Big. Also liked the delayed doubles we deployed.

- Much better tonight on not forcing in transition (kudos to Seth for giving up the rock), all the while we were being appropriately aggressive taking it to the rack and running after made shots.

- Want to see more Tyson, and earlier.

- RJ played much more in the flow this time.

- Finally, any more questions as to who drives this team? The difference when EC being in or not is, well, striking. He is exactly what I told y'all he was when we signed him.

Anyway, good warm-up for the most loaded Maui Invitational field ever. Hopefully we come outta the gate a tad stronger Monday and keep the intensity going...

Do You Think Seth Trimble Will Ever Turn the Corner?

Five games in and it isn't looking like a fluke.

Only Seth and JWash have 100+ ORtg for every game. (Lubin might be there if he got enough minutes.)

Facing our toughest foes, Seth was top scorer against Kansas and MVP against Dayton.

I've been trying to think of other UNC players with his level of control over his own body. Not just a leaper but an acrobat.

He leads the team in 3pt%, FT% and +/-.

He's prolific (#2 in points after RJ) and durable (#2 in minutes behind RJ).

Rumor has it he's also a pretty good defender.

Is anyone else thinking 1st round draft pick?

Recruit reaction on the Mack Brown news..

Zavion Griffin-Haynes: Impacts it a lot!!! Announcement soon

Evan Haynes: I definitely think this is big news and there are some things to consider moving forward, FSU and (Georgia) Tech have reached out and we will see who else reaches out but rn I’m just gonna pray and see what happens moving forward.

Trey Blue: It definitely sucks but im sticking to my decision. Coach Brown played a huge part in my commitment.

Omarion Hampton: Doak Walker Finalist

North Carolina’s Hampton Selected as Doak Walker Award Finalist

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton has been named as one of three finalists for the 2024 Doak Walker Award, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced on Tuesday.

The Doak Walker Award, presented by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum, has been awarded to the nation’s top running back since 1990.

Hampton, who was a semifinalist for the award last year, leads the ACC and ranks third nationally with 1,475 rushing yards and an average of 134.1 rushing yards per game this season. Hampton, who has rushed for over 100 yards in nine of the 11 games this season, including eight straight games, the second-most in ACC history, leads the ACC in rushing touchdowns (14) and total touchdowns (15). Hampton became just the third Tar Heel with three 200-rushing yard games in his career following career-highs of 244 rushing yards and 35 carries in a win over Wake Forest on Saturday, November 16. Hampton is the only FBS player to rush for 1450 or more yards and 14 touchdowns in each of the last two seasons.

The winner will be unveiled live on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12. The formal presentation of the award will take place at the annual banquet scheduled for January 31, 2025.

Mack Brown Statement

While this was not the perfect time and way in which I imagined going out, no time will ever be the perfect time. I’ve spent 16 seasons at North Carolina and will always cherish the memories and relationships Sally and I have built while serving as head coach. We’ve had the chance to coach and mentor some great young men, and we’ll miss having the opportunity to do that in the future. Moving forward, my total focus is on helping these players and coaches prepare for Saturday’s game against N.C. State and give them the best chance to win. We want to send these seniors out right and I hope our fans will show up Saturday to do the same.

Ryan Switzer Named Interim Head Football Coach At Tulsa

Tulsa is expected to fire football coach Kevin Wilson, sources told ESPN, after he fell to 7-16 in two seasons following a 63-30 loss at USF on Saturday. Wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Ryan Switzer has accepted the interim head coaching role, sources said. Switzer was a two-time All-American at UNC and played three seasons in the NFL. The Mack Brown reports

There is no need for us to write anything on this because we have never taken a position he could be gone or said he would leave in any capacity. We have maintained it's really his decision to make unless the team lost out. But it obviously hasn't lost out.

And, given my dealings with the program, nothing has given me any indication he could be on his way out. I have noted that multiple times in various threads.
