Roy Williams becomes member of Order of the Long Leaf Pine Society

Gov. Roy Cooper honored retired UNC basketball coaching legend, Roy Williams with a membership to the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Society. The award is the state's highest civilian honor. In his speech, Williams had some special words for the person who's been with him more than 50 years, his wife. Wanda. "She's been the rock for our entire family." (WTVD)

Should Hubert be on the hot seat?

I would argue yes. Many will disagree with this, but let's realistically look at his tenure:

-Very poor first year in regular season, barely made the tournament but did make a great NCAA run. Lost the biggest lead in NCAA history in a championship game. If we had won that game it would be a different conversation.

-Disastrous year 2. Pre-season number 1 to unranked with great talent. Did less with more, whereas Roy Williams always managed to do more with less.

-Year 3 was solid, but lost to NC State for an ACC championship (Roy would have never lost that game) and early exit in NCAA tournament

-Year 4, despite people saying to not worry so much about the first few games, this team has Year 2 written all over it, we may barely make the tournament but don't look good.

The big thing for me is that when we play SEC schools like Alabama or Auburn, it's a guaranteed loss. We are NORTH CAROLINA and rarely ever win clutch games. We get outcoached constantly and can't beat really good teams. If he doesn't turn things around this year, I think it's time to pull the plug. Maybe give him a year 5 but the Hubert Davis era is a dramatic drop-off from the Roy Williams era.

Misc. College Basketball Thread

I often find things to post related to college basketball in general, but don't want to start a new thread for something short lived or takeover an existing thread. As such, feel free to use this thread to discuss anything college basketball related that isn't necessarily UNC related. I'll start with this stat. I feel like it gets posted somewhere here every year. Unfortunately (but not surprisingly), the good guys aren't included in the list.

What would you do to fix the portal timing?

It's out of control and a horrendous model. The playoffs are starting and we have full free agency.

A few ideas,a nd please offer any you have:

*Get rid of conference title games, each league adds a conference game to their schedule and all teams play 13 games
*No more bowl games
*Start the season in late August - one open date.
*Playoffs start the Saturday the conference title games are now played.
*Next round is the following weekend.
*Four teams left: They play the third Saturday in December.
*National title game is Jan. 1
*Portal OPENS on Jan. 2 at 8 AM EST. It closes Jan. 9 at midnight.
---Kids must find a new school by Jan. 18 in order to enroll for that semester.
---If they don't by that time, they will have to sti out the semester.
---If they continue attending classes at their current school while also in the portal, they can return to that school by Jan. 15.
