2017 Atlanta Braves Thread (w/ occasional Red Sox talk for Hark)

What's the deal with those slurs being thrown at Adam Jones? I knew Boston had it's white trash southie homeboys, but would you say Boston itself is a racist city?

Also I don't blame Manny Machado for being pissed. You're only supposed to throw at someone once in retaliation. Last night made it four times.

Bro, Boston is the most anti-black city in the country. Not really a secret.

I'm not exactly sure. The bag of peanuts was definitely thrown into the dugout because there's video of that. However, there's no audio/video of any racist remarks said to Jones. Which, might not be surprising if it was a quick "drive by" N bomb that was dropped without anyone knowing what was going on. But allegedly Jones said that it happened several times throughout the game. Which I, and I'm sure most other people, would have my smartphone at the ready if there was some guy(s) hurling N bombs at multiple points in the game and catch it on video. Also there's live mics all over the place and none of them picked it up. No one sitting in center field or near the dugout said they heard the racist remarks.

So maybe Jones did have those racist comments thrown at him and just nothing else captured it. Maybe he knew the city has been pegged as racist in the past and made it up because it'd be pretty believable, who knows. If it happened - that's disgusting and the people responsible should be dealt with accordingly (although, the way people are talking about it is like Jones was beaten and stabbed - he had some bad words said to him *allegedly*- not really sure what the "justice" would be for that... maybe say some bad words back to the guy?).

Regardless, in today's day and age, the Sox had to apologize profusely for it without even knowing if it actually happened or not - because they'd be screwed from a PR perspective if anyone could possibly twist it into them condoning that behavior. So the Bomani Jones' and Jemele Hill's will have a field day, and get their wet dream topic of the year, and go to town on how racist Boston is - whatever. The city is no more or less racist than any other major city in the country. With how liberal the city is, if there is any difference, I'd wager it's less racist overall - but again, probably not much of a difference.

Sounds just like something a racist would say.

I don't blame him for being pissed either, but at the same time - tough shit. Due to the failure of anyone to actually hit him yet - he still has it coming.

Rodriguez wasn't throwing at him, so you can't count that. Barnes was throwing at him (although I think it's clear he wasn't throwing at his head on purpose). Sale threw at him. While I don't think what he did warrants him getting earholed, I do think he needs to get hit by one to call it even.

Not even 10 years ago, my dad had a black cab driver in Boston who had to let him out 5 blocks away from his intended destination because he bluntly said "I can't go to that part of town because I'm black."

Not sure what he says, but it seems like most of the world thinks it's a racist city.

It's a segregated one, but racist I think is a stretch.

Boston is interesting because there are a lot of liberals and high end waspy types on Beacon Hill and a whole class of white collar educated people, but there's also a shit ton of working class blue collar Irish/Italian people that probably stick to their neighborhoods and haven't met a black person in their life.

Who knows what really happened. I think it was necessary for the Red Sox to apologize because as you said, you sort of have to. I'm with you that Boston isn't any more racist than any other city, but I will say it's highly divided by ethnic lines.

I'm with him in the sense that you get your one shot at retaliation and that's it. It's not that I hold any love for Machado, but I think you gotta follow the unwritten rule in this case. Also, I guarantee you there's going to be a benches clearing incident between the Red Sox and O's this year.

If it's segregated, that's at the desire of the various neighborhoods. People may tend towards staying in their neighborhoods, but it's not like the 1930's - they get around and go to work and I'm not sure if you're being facetious but they all run into people of different ethnicities all the time.

The North End being Italian, Southie/Dorchester being Irish, Chinatown (self explanatory), Eastie being Latin American, and Jamaica Plains/Mattapan/Roxbury being Black is because those groups choose to live near each other - no one makes them live there.

But the main point is that a person of any ethnicity would be fine in any one of those 'hoods. A group of black kids could walk through Back Bay, Brookline, or Beacon Hill and be perfectly fine - which is why I think the cab driver in an above poast was full o' shit if he played off that he wouldn't be ok going into any neighborhood in Boston.

Oh I wasn't saying they were purposefully segregated or by law, that's just where people are choosing to live. It's a kind a 'segregation' by choice thing.

You forgot to mention Beacon Hill which is still pretty waspy. But you're right, no minority group would be assaulted in any of the white neighborhoods. I think personally a white person would be in more danger in Roxbury than a black person would be in Newton or Brookline.

Our starters can't hold teams under 5 runs, our hitters can't get hits with runners in scoring position, our new ballpark is a launching pad but only the opposing team's players can capitalize, our bullpen can't keep close games close, and our closer can't even get in a game because we never have a lead going into the 9th, and we've allowed the first run of the game in 85% of our games so far.

Other than that, the Braves are doing peachy.

The good news is our stadium organ player is a fukkin genius whose antics probably go over the heads of 90% of the audience.

For San Diego's Wil Myers, he played the Stranger Things theme each time Myers came to the plate (get it?). For Kolton Wong, he just played Sublime's "Wrong Way" lololol

Assuming a loss today, Atlanta is on pace to go 63-99. That's retarded. It's frustrating because, though we're in a rebuild, this team has enough pieces in place to legitimately target a win total in the 75-81 range.

But that would require our roster to play up to its potential, which it is absolutely not so far, Freeman and sometimes Inciarte and Kemp excluded.
