2017 Atlanta Braves Thread (w/ occasional Red Sox talk for Hark)

So we give Bautista a free run and a fastball down the middle for a double off the fence. Man, we are really showing him who's boss. Don't mess with the Braves.

After the rain delay, just send Julio back out to plunk someone again, get ejected, and just give the game to the bullpen for another 20 runs.

Went to the game last night. Very impressed with our performance and grit the past two games against the Nats. I'm thrilled that Kemp has done so well since the trade last season.

It's encouraging that Swanson is starting to get it going offensively. When Freeman went down, I figured he would miss ~60 games and I set our number at 25. If we can just win 25 of those 60 games somehow and Freeman returns without any complications, we can be in a position to at least flirt with the second wild card spot.

I was actually at the game today. Place is absolutely beautiful and easy as hell to get in and out of. Thank God Turner Field is dead.

Everyone on I-85 can't drive for shit.

Bro... thanks for the heads up -.-

I'm glad you liked the park, though. It's a beaut. And yes, much easier ingress and egress than Turner. Where did you sit?

I can't think of everything.
Where did you sit?
I was right behind the right field foul pole; lower concourse, top row, and directly beside the Chop House seating. I went all over the stadium, and there really isn't a bad seat in the house at all. Even the very top level seems extremely close to the field. With that said, I don't recommend where I sat, though. The Chop House seats are slightly elevated above mine, so I had to stand up any time a ball was hit to center. Luckily for me, all I had to do was watch us strike out or hit a grounder to an infielder, so I didn't have my view obstructed much. Otherwise, the place is spectacular.

Did you just drive in for one game and then drive back after? That's a power move.

This is a big series for the Braves. If we can keep momentum going and, at worst, split this four game series with the Pirates, then I think that can potentially give us the confidence that we can still compete in the long-term with Freddie out.

If we roll over and lose 3 or get swept, it would be devastating to the team psyche.

Yep. My dad and I wanted some father/son time since my mom was working Sunday, so I went up to Hickory Saturday night and we left Sunday morning around 6 and arrived around 10:30. Stopped by the Yard House for some fried cheese curds (delicious AF) and a burger before the game.

We did have to leave the game a little early though, so I guess I get a bit of an asterisk. Kudos to my dad though. He woke up yesterday morning sick as a dog, but he toughed it out the entire day. I knew he must have been feeling bad when I asked him if he wanted to go home, and he said yes. Whether it's UNC, Braves, or whatever, he never leaves a game early. So we left after the 7th, and I took him back home. I stayed the night in Hickory because I was sick of driving, woke up early this morning and drove to work in Charlotte. So basically, I wanna go home.

The Battery is pretty damn awesome isn't it?

It's a FAR better atmosphere than Turner, where the only restaurant beside it is some shitty place that calls itself the Bullpen and serves nothing but garbage greasy food. That place seriously sucked. I hope that place died with Turner Field.

The Battery is awesome, but I won't get the full effect until it's fully developed and everything is open.

So my dad just texted me and told me he went to the doctor this morning and found out he has strep throat. That's a good reason to leave a game early, right?
You'll have it soon enough, friend. But yeah I'm quite accustomed to strep. The fever that can come with it makes you feel terrible.

Yeah, that's I'm afraid of. Oh well, I haven't had strep throat since I was a little kid, so maybe I'll get lucky. I guess the silver lining is if I feel bad out of nowhere, I'll know what it is.

I got it a ton as a kid... like all the time. The doctors were like "okay, next time you get it, tonsils are coming out" and then I didn't get it again for the longest time. Like a decade.

Fast forward to two years ago and I started getting throat infections that came with the most debilitating fever. Basically, I would get them every 3 months like clockwork until I'd go in and get augmentin to knock them out. So I ultimately had to get my tonsils out last summer.

Getting them out as an adult = Worst. Thing. Ever. The recovery was ridiculous. Even 10 full days after surgery, I couldn't even eat french fries without searing throat pain. But in the end it was totally worth it. It's been 11 months since the surgery and I haven't had one bit of throat ache since.

Yeah, I remember you talking about it as you were going through it. Sounds like hell. I was always fortunate enough to rarely get sick as a child and right now. I've only had strep throat maybe three times my entire life, if even that. I'm one of those people who rarely ever get sick, but when I do get sick, it hits me HARD.

The scariest thing I've ever had to deal with was an intense stomach virus that I had gotten from somewhere when I was in college. Luckily, I just so happened to be visiting my parents at the time, so I was at their house. One moment, I felt fine, and the next thing I know, my legs felt completely weak. I pretty much knew I was coming down with something, but I had no idea what I was about to deal with. I just went to bed with the hope it was going to something I could deal with when I woke up in the morning. About an hour later, I rushed to the bathroom and had the most violent puke in my life. Afterwards, I was just like "okay, I just ate something bad and this will pass." Boy, was I wrong. This continued about every 15 minutes for hours and hours and hours until finally, their dog walked upstairs, figured something was wrong and started barking. My mom, who is a nurse, got up to shut her up and then she saw me. I don't know why I didn't just let them know, but I guess it was an ego thing. Here I was 21 years old, and I wasn't about to go completely kid mode and wake up my parents because I wasn't feeling well. By the time she had gotten to me, she told me to look at her, and I just couldn't. I would look, and my eyes would just roll to the back my head. I couldn't even stand at that point, and if I tried, I felt like I was gonna pass out. She rushed me to the emergency room, and my blood pressure was incredibly low. Like 70/50 or something like that, and I was in the midst of kidney failure. I was in the hospital for three days taking IV after IV. I ended up regaining enough strength to go home, but I wasn't myself for a couple of more weeks. Pretty much, I could have laid in my bed and just died if my mom never got me. Thank God for dogs, they are truly amazing animals.

Damn dude. Did you ever figure out what the hell it was? Just like real intense food poisoning?

I'm still to this day unclear exactly what it was. Honestly, I think it was just a really bad stomach virus, and I had gotten so dehydrated so quickly that my body was just completely shutting down.

Yeah that's the danger of food poison. You pretty much have to constantly sip on water and gatorade during all that junk.

Anyway, I'd love to see Folty put together another quality start tonight. Pittsburgh is 6-4 over their last 10, but Gerrit Cole has been pitching out of his mind of late, despite his W/L record.

I am locked in to the Braves right now. I can't wait each day for the game to come on. A lot to digest and be intrigued about:

- Swanson's progression as a hitter
- Kemp elevating his game and trying to pick up the slack a bit for Freeman's absence
- Ruiz getting a chance at 3B
- Folty trying to improve each outing
- Matt Adams getting extended run as a 1B starter

Dude's gotta stop that, no doubt about it.
Yeah I mean if Motte didn't pull a Houdini and come in and give up zero runs despite runners on first and third with no outs, suddenly the lead is either skinny or gone. All of Folty's good work in the first 4 would've been for naught.

Plus, if we want him to be a frontline ace one day, he's gotta go deeper than 5.0 IP
