2017 Atlanta Braves Thread (w/ occasional Red Sox talk for Hark)

This team is pathetic w/ RISP. We should change our name to the Atlanta Cast-Aways because all we do is strand men on base.

Almost hope we lose today just because you don't deserve to win when you strand 11 fukking base runners (and counting).

It's been like that for at least 10 years now, it seems. I don't know what it is. It's like the hitter sees a guy at 2nd or 3rd and just freaks out and panics. I don't know what it is or what to do about it, but it's just been like the plague for the Braves.

Mhm. And it even affects our surest hitters like Markakis. It's like the entire team has the yips.

I read a few different forums for opinions on the braves (ironically, Pack Pride has a strong Braves forum most years but it isn't nearly as active this year), and I keep seeing things written like "our pitching is ruining our great hitting" and "This team has tons of offensive firepower, we just can't get any pitching." Uhh what? What offensive firepower? We average like 2.75 runs a game.

Dare I ask, should we look to trade Markakis at the deadline and just bring up Acuna? The dude is only 19, I get it, but he is a straight up freak. Completely shredding the minor leagues. I mean, if Andruw could do it...

Must suck hitting bombs and constantly lose. I'll GFM but I'll be looking you in the eye.
But seriously, I'm sure it does suck for Freeman. All the losing while he's balling out would frustrate even the most good-natured personality like FF.

To his credit, he's really grown into accepting his role as team leader and face of the franchise. He's pulled no punches in press conferences this year (while still maintaining professionalism and not pointing fingers) after losses and made it abundantly clear that he doesn't accept some of the terrible losses Atlanta has suffered thus far.

What's annoying is this team has talent. Not enough to win a title obviously, but enough to flirt with the second wild card. We just are not playing up to our potential. But hey, we've won 4 of our last 5, so hopefully that's a sign of an upswing. Depending on the Mets' result tonight, we could be in second place in the NL East.

I wish there was just an MLB thread so I could stop crashing the Braves Raves. My apologies.
Make one. It will encourage me to watch more non-Braves MLB.

I wish one of your Bravos would have knocked the shit out of that **** ass of a ball player for Toronto.
Jace Peterson would have if teammates hadn't held him back. He was playing first base because of Freeman's exit. After Bautista did the bat flip and was hot dogging it, Jace met him at first and starting jawing at him. Bautista stopped but then decided to keep running.

He kept running because he's a little bitch and because he saw Jace Peterson up close and wanted zero part of that fight. Jace was a college safety and is an extremely cut dude. He would kill Bautista.

So @coolwaterunc assuming Freeman is out for the rest of the season or most of it, what's the plan of attack? We don't have a true backup first baseman.

IMO, I'd like to see Jace given an extended run there, provided he can hit well enough to justify starts. I love what Jace brings to the team and love his hustle. He's like Ender in that regard. He looked good at first last night.

I definitely don't want to see the front office trade any pieces to go get a first baseman. This season is done anyway if Freeman is out. And I don't think they'd do that. They'll just weather the storm internally.

Lose.

I mean, seriously, that's just what's going to happen. There is no replacing Freddie Freeman. Other than Matt Kemp, there's no other threat to do major damage. Nick Markakis is good and reliable, but he's no game changer. I like Jace Peterson, but I really don't care. It will be a carousel at first base, and we're just going to suck. Just the way it is.

Yeah I don't know if Fulton County Stadium was built on an old Cherokee burial ground or what, but the Braves are cursed man. That ridiculous collection of talent through the 90s and early 00s, and only ONE championship? Otis Nixon missed that world series. Ron Gant looks promising... then gets a career-ending injury. Kris Medlen looks promising... blows out his arm and never recovers. On and on and on. And now Freddie Freeman is on the cusp of super stardom and he breaks his wrists.

According to the law of how these things happen for the Braves, the wrist issues from this will now plaque Freeman forever and he'll only be a shadow of his current form.

i listen to sports talk out of dallas everyday and they're talking about last night and anticipating tonight...mike bacsik is one of the co-hosts...google mike bacsik if you want, he's about the only baseball guy i can listen to...he also tweets me back, so that's cool.

his contact told him "there will be a fight tonight in the game"...i don't know who is catching julio, but bascik said susuki is "almost too nice" to start anything.

anyway, they're all hyping this game tonight because of what odor did to that clown...plus, they love ron washington and think he'd be great in atlanta.

Pillar called relief pitcher Jason Motte a "fagg*t" after Motte struck him out last night and the benches cleared. This was before the Bautista thing and Motte didn't do anything to show him up. All he did was strike him out and start walking toward the dugout.

Motte is married to a woman so....

But yeah, I can't wait to watch this game tonight. The Blue Jays have beaned 7 Braves batters already in the series, the final one resulting in Freeman's broken wrist. So the Braves are pissed. I'm hoping they start a reliever whose sole job is to take out Bautista.

The Braves are too classy to do more than hit Bautista in the back with a changeup though. Snitker wouldn't sign off on anything more than that

I'm usually one for hitting a guy in the ribs, or ass or something, when retaliating for one of your guys getting hit or whatever.

But, if there's one guy in the league that deserves a heater up in his earhole - it's Bautista.

He got suspended 2 games for that. Amazing some of the stuff you can do and not get suspended, but saying a word on the naughty list gets you bagged for a couple games.

They're friggin' words, people. They have no power unless you give them power. And by making it breaking news every time someone uses a naughty word - it's giving them power.
