Sean Newcomb is good.
So is Matt Adams

Also, people -- at least people who cover the Braves and who should know better -- need to stop going on and on about SunTrust like it's some sort of bandbox like Great American Ballpark. Home runs are up across the board in baseball.

@coolwaterunc you might not believe this, but SunTrust Park has the fifth fewest home runs allowed per game in the National League.

Thoughts on the Freeman 3B Experiment?
I don't think I would do it, honestly, but I'm not upset over it, by any means. Freddie is one of the best defensive first baseman in the league, and now we're about to have below average defense at 3B, SS, and 1B. I understand the desire to have him and Adams in the lineup, but it's not like we're in a playoff race here. Why seem so desperate? Personally, I'd deal Adams to an AL team and figure out 3B in the off-season. Freddie at 3B and Adams at 1B obviously isn't the long term answer, so why are we doing it?

Again, I don't mean to come across as being upset about it. If it happens, it certainly will be fun (interesting) to watch. I just don't understand why a team hovering around .500 would make such a bizarre move.

^ it wouldn't be a short-term move. It would be a long-term move if it happened. From reports, it was Freddie's idea. An organization wouldn't otherwise approach an All-Star 1B and tell him to change positions.

At first I was like "why the hell would you do this" But now I'm coming around to it for two major reasons:

1. Obviously, Matt Adams' bat. It's a major addition to an already good lineup.
2. 3B is one of those positions -- along with C and possibly 2B -- that we do not have a long-term solution for already in our system. If Freddie could successfully transition there, it would make the issue of 3B go away. Rio Ruiz isn't the answer.

Also FWIW, Freeman played 3B in high school.

I understand that this was Freddie's call, and I'm aware he played 3B in high school, but I don't understand how that has anything to do with it being a short or long term move or not. I don't see Freddie as a permanent third baseman, I just don't. I'm sure the organization doesn't either.

I agree Ruiz isn't the answer at third, but I don't think Freddie is either. That's why I said figure it out in the offseason.

Because if it isn't a long-term fix them the move makes no sense.

Chip Carey

Now I remember why I quit watching Braves games.

Why do so many people hate Chip? I mean, he isn't his dad by any stretch of the imagination and he's known for his occasional botches, but a lot of the hate is unnecessary. He's not that bad, but I'm known to never give a crap about any of the announcers for any game. They're all the same to me.

Because he says stupid shit like

"Now with the Oakland catcher up, the Braves can get a ground ball double play and end the game"

Thereby guaranteeing that the catcher will lace a double off the right field wall.

And he does it frequently. He also treats relatively routine plays like Kirk Gibson going yard on one leg. Finally, he needs to let Joe talk more instead of blabbering on non-stop.

I don't believe in jinxes, so the first point is nonsense. The way Johnson was pitching, no way he gets a double play anyway.

Announcers are nothing more than background noise to me, so I guess I can't relate to the people who complain about announcers. I enjoy the games too much to be bothered by him. I think he does what he's supposed to do, so he is who he is, I guess.

That's fine if you don't believe in jinxes and superstition, but the majority of baseball fans do. And his repeated violations may be a reason that many people beside me don't like him.

AJ Minter is probably our closer of the future but there's nobody else ready. I wasn't really suggesting we replace Johnson now. Just stating he isn't a closer on a contending team.

This team has the potential to get hot and be a contender tho

Nice win and sweep there. If the Braves can win the series against Houston, I might have to figure out a way to listen to the radio while watching games.

I really wouldn't mind it if we trade Phillips. Sometimes, it just comes across to me that he doesn't take his job seriously enough or something with some of his comedic antics out there. And then there are times like we just saw where he was taking his time with Altuve running, and also the ball rolling under his glove in the first inning. I don't know, maybe it's just me. It just seems like, for as long as he's been doing this, some of those things shouldn't happen. I don't hate him or anything, I just question him sometimes.

Damn. Newcomb was throwing decent enough too but these Astros don't miss unless they are former Braves.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think he's just cocky. Still hitting well though, so let's not shitcan him yet.
