2018 Atlanta Braves thread

I’m surprised you guys aren’t getting more familiar with all of the teams we’re going to beat in Omaha instead of watching the bravos

Greg Maddux in his prime could throw a complete game shutout against this offense throwing only 60 pitches.
Newcomb is regressing a bit (i.e. regressing to what his peripherals say he should be, which is still a really solid pitcher), and basically I'm afraid I was prescient. We're a .500 baseball team the past month.

ETA: Newcomb has been fortunate to pitch so well despite his massive BB/9 numbers. That isn't sustainable. He's gotta learn how to cut down on the walks.

Also, @coolwaterunc you know I'm always down to bash our bats when we aren't hitting, but the Dodgers have some absolute stud pitchers in their rotation. Even though he's young, Buehler is amazing, and Stripling is good as well.

Solid work by Newcomb getting out of that jam to minimize the damage. Puig is some kind of terrible. When the Dodgers spend a ton on a dude like that and he flames out, they just shrug it off. When we do it for a dude like Olivera, we are hamstrung like a mother.

Yeah, crazy how they make them play baseball.

Well, they try to make them play baseball, unsuccessfully. If pitchers would bother to work on their hitting at all, then I’d say go for it. Since they won’t spend any time on it, and for the most part completely suck at it, I’m happy they spare me the agony of watching them attempt a bunt and fail on the first two pitches, and get corkscrewed into the ground on the third pitch.

Some guys just can’t swing the bat. Cage time would be a waste of resources for a lot of those guys.

The DH and even a “EH” has made its way down into youth baseball. Pitchers are going to get worse at hitting before they get better

You're a Boston fan. Nobody cares what you think.

Amen.

@TarHeelNation11

ESPN just did a piece on the baby Braves. Any thoughts on it?
Haven't read it. Working on a final project. Can you link it so I can read it later?

Also, @coolwaterunc the situation with Ender's hitting is getting pretty dire. His defense will keep him in the lineup -- as it should -- but he's gotta start hitting the ball.

That 72 wRC+ score means he's 28% worse than league average as a hitter. That's... not good. For all his woes at the plate, Dansby's wRC+ is 102 right now. Flaherty's is a 96!

Albies is a freak
Ozzie Albies: good at baseball.

Also.... see how much better everything works out when Ender is at the bottom of the lineup? Ender and Dansby are reciprocals. Dansby's numbers are very good when he hits in a non-8th position in the lineup. Ender is better when he's 7th or lower.
