2020 Season

All the insiders seems to be saying the major concern is liability for the schools/conferences.

Just for the sake of discussion suppose the Big 10 was the only one to cancel, would alot of those seniors hit the transfer portal so they can play this year?

Anybody whose team/league cancels for him should be able to transfer and be eligible now.

The Big Ten has backed away and denied its vote, claiming it will vote tonight. That came after coaches, especially Scott Frost, voiced opposition.

These players coalitions and their “asks” have schools nervous about the liability aspects of playing as they should be. The asks if the coalitions, although not unreasonable given the fact we know the NCAA isn’t what it once was and amateurism is a joke at this point, see really baselines for legal recourse on the back end if you proceed with a season and there’s any perception that the liability factors weren’t prevented or at least met to a tee.

IMO it would be extremely unfair to have fifth and sixth year seniors on teams from one or two conferences because they cancelled and were granted an extra year of eligibility while other conferences played and graduated their seniors.

This whole thing has been a shit show. There needs to be one approach across the board, not individual conferences all trying to find their own solutions.

Not sure they have "backed away", the vote results were leaked, the formal announcement is forthcoming. They might kick the can down the road, to keep some hope alive.

Kicking the can down the road is backing away from a 12-2 vote.

Frost is adamant about playing. He is not going to be forgiven by the Big Ten office.

FSU just held a press conference...getting ahead of the ACC...

With Governor De Santis, FSU President Thrasher...and the FSU Coach and AD along with two player reps...

The main argument the administrators made Tuesday was that the players have access to the best medical care they can get on campus. They are currently getting tested once a week but would get tested twice a week once the season began.

Plus, FSU has built its own COVID-19 testing lab, so the results can be returned in less than 24 hours.

"Our governor is behind us, our coaches are behind us and our team is behind us," Thrasher said. "So let's get ready to play football."

DeSantis said he is confident that the ACC and SEC will press forward with the plan of playing this season, but if they don't, he said he would support the idea of the state schools in Florida playing each other.

They are correct. The best healthcare, starting with monitoring, they can get is on campus.

Are the Heels ready for that Home with Notre Dame, at Ohio State, home with Nebraska on back to back to back weekends?
Wouldn't that be a murderer's row.

If Nebraska plays, however many games it can get, will that lead to Nebraska starting to rethink going Big Ten?

I know it’s not necessarily a great comparison, but on the surface it feels kinda silly to act like they’re so concerned about player safety when we know for a fact these guys are all giving each other CTE.

This is about the lawyers telling the presidents that they could be legally culpable if players or fans get sick.

Play in empty stadiums. It will be cool to hear the communication coming in from the sidelines and the audibles at the LOS anyways.

After big 12 cancels it is just ACC and SEC. Make the conf championship the national semi's and winners play for the title.

Big 12 will play if SEC plays. No way Texas and OU will allow SEC football to do something they can't.

If this season is played fully, will we see a G5 team in the playoffs?

There are 4 slots and only 3 of the P5 playing. The AAC is expected to play, and the AAC has UCF, Memphis, Cincy, SMU, Houston, Navy, USF, etc. An undefeated AAC team almost certainly would get the slot.

Depends on final records. A one loss ND, Oklahoma, SEC team would make it in over an undefeated G5 team.

This year, G5 teams have 0 chance to get a P5 win. And with no wins over P5 teams, the top G5 league will not have an easy case to make.

The first major attacks on the bowls system were all about the fact that conference tie-ins prevented #1 vs. #2 matchups virtually every year. Many times, bowl tie-ins meant that #1 could not play #s2-4. By the early 1990s, everybody wanted to address that problem, but the Big Ten and Pac refused to play ball, so to speak, unless the Rose Bowl were given special status along with the Rose Bowl leagues. The Big Ten and Pac ans their media mouthpieces continued to cast aspersions on any system that did not bribe their egos enough to have them join in.

The same forces are at work today, with the Big Ten and Pac not playing, and their media mouthpieces casting doubt on whoever wins. Dabo gives an answer.

in general the bowl system depended on polls (opinions) to determine the champion. conference tie-ins were part of the bigger problem that necessitated a playoff.

The playoffs have now been officially cancelled, unless they can make it a go in the spring, with over 50% of teams already cancelled for the fall, no championships will be held in the fall. They are hopeful for spring. Nebraska has officially squashed any talk of them playing any fall games along with the rest of the Big 10 as well.

Where are you seeing this? I saw that the NCAA has said fall championships are cancelled, but the NCAA isn't in charge of the CFP.

It would just be a random couple of games, it wouldn't be a NCAA Championship if a handful of teams play a tournament. They at best could have Central Florida like claims . I'm hoping they can crown one in the spring, if we can get it together.

The NCAA does not run D1/FBS football. The NCAA does not name the champion, nor determine how that process works. So, nobody is ever technically NCAA champ of D1/FBS.

The NCAA cannot cancel that which the NCAA does not run, does not own.

There's not going to be any spring football. It's just something the conferences are saying to give hardcore fans hope. The CFP would have massive ratings because there won't be a lot of games played and people will be dying for any football they can get.

Agreed that spring has a lot of obstacles as well. I also agree any games will get big ratings, but a handful of teams playing, a champion does not make. Some mighty big possible downside on the other hand for schools that "opt-in", and it wouldn't be all the teams from the couple conferences that play.

When the Big 10 went all conference games the other confrences had hoped they would wait and hope for a drop, but they knew the writing was on the wall, and followed suit. Same here, they are hoping for a miracle, keeping hope as long as they can, trying to salvage some revenue.

The Big Ten and Pac in refusing to open the Rose Bowl when everybody else agreed to set aside conference bowl tie-ins to arrange for #1 vs. #2 asserted that it was only a National Championship if they played. Everybody else ignored them.
