2025 recruiting....

Does Claude have another year of eligibility? I see him listed as playing 5 years, but only 6 games in one year. So since he started during COVID, he might have another year coming. Anybody know?

I ask because we lose JWit after this season, so if Claude goes, we're down to JWash, Lubin and Brown - who currently look like backups. [I'm assuming High doesn't return.]

We also lose RJ.

There's a good chance we lose some or all of Ian, Seth, Elliot and Drake to the pros.

If Cade's situation doesn't improve dramatically, I expect he'll transfer.

Meanwhile, our record of turning portal players into stars is looking outdated. That being the case, can we count on getting what we need from the portal?

How binding are letters of intent? I ask, because if I'm Denis or Dixon, how comfortable am I coming to a depleted program like ours could end up being?

Claude was in the same high school class as Armando Bacot. This is his final year of eligibility.

Yes, it looks like we're losing a lot of players after this season. I'll be surprised if both Washington and Lubin return considering they'll be seniors and they play the same position. We have a lot of spots to fill for next year, and yet we haven't landed a single top 40 recruit. Why? Because money is the most important factor in recruiting in the NIL era, and UNC's NIL stinks. I highly doubt we'll be picking up elite portal players to fill our open spots for next year unless the boosters suddenly change their minds.

Firing a coach because the boosters refuse to buy him talent is just dumb. Especially when the coach won the ACC and got a 1 seed a few months ago.
If he shows he knows what to do with the kind of players he's getting, his job should safe. Unless maybe he ends the season with the cupboard bare.

I'm reasonably confident he and the team can do better in the weak ACC. But not blindly confident.

We could end up with no worse than 12 losses, and Hubert might resume his mastery of the portal. In which case we'll look back at this as a blip, and remind ourselves that we had only lost to a few very good teams at this point in time.

He can't master the portal without NIL money. That was made clear this past summer.

So when we perform well, it’s the coach’s doing. But when we suck, it’s just having bad players because boosters aren’t donating enough.

Got it.

He's only mastered the portal one time and that was with Manek. Manek wasn't rated super high in the portal either. Just happened to work out real good for us.

You ever thought the big money donors don’t believe in Hubert and are still upset that UNC didn’t even do a coaching search…Instead letting Roy Williams name the next coach…Fact is Hubert Davis wasn’t qualified to take this job….

This. It’s easy to constantly complain about NIL, but that’s not getting granular enough to understand the cause behind it. I’d say there are some top end boosters that prefer not to toss hundreds of thousands at a coach they maybe didn’t prefer or don’t think has the ability to do anything with the acquired talent. I’m sure at least some of them view it this way. Very possible that some were upset about how the process played out with the fake interview process and Roy hiring the coach.

Dumb, yes, and unlikely, as well. But his seat may be warmer than expected unless/until he turns this around.

Having a talented back court that can run and score combined with a front court that can't is a problem.

So far Hubert seems to be setting his style of play to fit the back court. Does he stick with that?

Does he change the style of play to fit the abilities of his front court players?

Does he play 4 guards and whoever is able to keep up from the front court committee? Or 5 guards?

Anyone else really missing Armando? Surely he has another year of eligibility, right?

Like I already pointed out to you, we have plenty of talent on this team. More than some teams in the AP Top 5. All the talent in the world doesn't matter if you can't coach it worth a damn. Calipari already showed us that.

It's being reported that Belichick is getting $20 million a year in NIL, and that Mack Brown was only given $4 million.

That right there shows you just how much impact donors have on the success of sports in the NIL era. They just upped the football NIL by 500%. They could have done it at anytime. They chose not to cut the check until Belichick was available.

Imagine what Hubert could do with a 500% increase in NIL. Heck even a fraction of that. We'd have the frontcourt needed to make this current team a contender. We'd likely have a good 2025 recruiting class to. The boosters really have all the power now.

Is there a free site that lists these numbers and explains things to laymen?

Hubert is not Bill…Why is it so hard for you to understand that more than a few big money movers on the basketball side were not in favor of the hire…4 years in and guess where Hubert has the Heels…Out of the Top 25 and on the bubble again…

Make no mistake though his seat is getting warm…

I got no love for him and I did not think he was the right choice at the time, But if its true that the boosters are basically handcuffing him so that he fails, all that does is set us back nationally. If nothing else give him the money then watch him fail and then he wont have any excuses.

We have the backcourt to compete for a national championship. The boosters refused to give him the money to get competent starting big men. The team is losing games as a result of the obvious flaw in our roster that opposing teams can attack. A flaw the boosters had more than enough money to address.

Some low IQ fan: "see look, Hubert is losing games."

Still waiting on your excuse for the mediocrity the prior seasons when our recruiting was just fine. Any day now...All you do is bitch and cry about NIL while completely hand-waving any responsibility of the head coach to actually, you know, coach.

Hubert’s first season was disappointing but ended with a great tourney run. Second season was a train wreck. Returned 4 starters and preseason No. 1 and misses the tournament. Third season was a good season but got bounced out of the tourney way too quick for a 1 seed. Fourth season and already out of the top 25, poor recruiting year and poor roster construction.

I’d say overall he has been very underwhelming, which many of us expected. Carolina isn’t a training ground program for someone who has never been a head coach.

All Hubert needs is funds to pay to play ! He would be fine if he could just get the 5 * talent
He has 5 star talent on the roster now…We are 5-4….Fir now though I am giving him a pass on judgement as the season is now really starting with ACC play…Let the season play out and judge it then…

You don't think coaching has anything to do with our front court problems?

Maybe HD is getting the most out of what he has. It doesn't look that way to me, but I'm just a fan, so I could be wrong.

Do you think Roy or Dean (or pick your own recognized coach) would have similar problems - or do you think they would have figured it out?

Then again, even if you think Dean would have figured it out, is it fair to expect Hubert to be Dean? Maybe some day he will become a hall of fame coach, but he's not there yet - and neither was Dean in his 4th year.

If you're right about that, the obvious question is WHY. Why weren't the boosters willing to put up the money to help Hubert sign the people he wanted?

None of UNC's issues have only 1 cause! That is a patently silly idea on its face. There is a combination of player attitude and ability; head coach learning on the job; steep bball IQ learning curves; and circumstance like matchups, travel, and talented opponents that combine to reveal weaknesses in UNC's roster!

What moron actually believes that UNC firing its coach without giving him a real chance to figure it out won't impact future potential hires and recruiting???

It is ridiculous to lay the blame completely on any one individual!

Name me a coach that did not have to learn on the job in all of human history! I have an easier one, name me HOF coaches whose fans wanted them fired before they blossomed! (I'll start-DES, Roy, Ratty,.....)

UNC should stick to its principles and continue to be different than the masses!

(BTW: Bandwagons are just as easy to jump off as on!)

Those who are without sin should cast the first stone!

Meaning that if you want Hubs to surrender such a large % of his salary; have you contributed as large a % of yours??? If not, maybe you should send your tithes first before asking others about theirs!

NIL will increase now and can only get better for the whole U. I hope the system changes as well and we get some form of normalcy!
