Anybody know who won the Taylor Swift Invitational?

I missed the whole thing. I celebrated way too hard when they announced she was able to make it there on time. Passed out drunk before the thing even started.

The Reese's commercial IMO. But pretty entertaining game as far as Superbowls go though.

it doesn't take much to turn me away from the overhyped, celebrity-obsessed commercial extravaganza that the Stupor Bowl has become. When they spotlighted that talentless dinglehead sitting in her private seat for maybe the fourth time, for no reason whatsoever that pertained to the game that the broadcast show was supposed to be about, that was more than enough for me...especially considering I had only watched a few minutes of the game. I can only stomach so much.

I hate it for younger actual football fans who never got to see the first number of Super Bowls, or even Monday Night Football for that matter, exciting events where all the excitement generated was over the game of football itself. Such good stuff. Now it's put on for the mindless masses drawn to the hoopla, shiny objects and loud noises. It's just a grander version of the carnival barker enticing Clem to go in and see the Bearded Lady. Vegas was the perfect place for this one, they should make it the permanent location.

I should have just gone to one of those Super Bowl parties where you can't even find a TV to watch the game on.

The overtime, that fairly long FG, all the TOs, some great play-calls from Andy Reid and Mahomes being awesome. That special-teams screw-up. That was a very entertaining game for a super bowl, and pretty good overall. Sorry the sight of Taylor Swift ruined it for you. There's always someone in the crowd they're showing, i'd rather it be a hot blond than most other characters.

I'd rather they just showed us a football game, All the extra added hoop-de-do nonsense is a turnoff to me.

I have no problem finding hot blondes to ogle when that's what I have a mind to do, and I'm LMAO at you calling Taylor Swift a hot blond anyway. She's a heavily madeup and dressed up stringbean, a pretty scarecrow, a creation...she is exactly what they do with the Super Bowl, dress it up for those who fall for the goo-ga instead of the essence.

The game was an absolute snooze fest until late 3rd quarter. Then it became a really great and compelling game. 49ers will be kicking themselves for not taking advantage of the early domination on the LOS. Chiefs were going no where early while the 9ers were doing pretty much what they wanted until the CMC fumble on the first possession and then the back to back Trent Williams penalties on the second possession. They should have been up significantly. Then they go and give the Chiefs life with the muffed punt. And still had a chance to win in regulation had Moody not had the XP blocked. Just too many mistakes against Mahomes. You can't survive that,

And the Walken BMW commercial was the best.

A decade or so ago the commercials were sometimes better than the actual game. Now half the commercials are about CBS sit-coms or paramount sit-coms, or upcoming movies. When Arnold Schwarzeneger saying "neighbuh" is memorable, you know the commercials sucked.

Y'all are looking at those past commercials through rose-tinted glasses. Ever since the commercials at the Super Bowl became a "thing," the majority of them have been corny or over the top, with brands trying to do too much to make the most of their crazy investment. Any given year, most of them are awful and if you have 3 or 4 commercials that made you chuckle or pay attention, that's about the best you can expect, and we had that. E-Trade with the trash-talking babies and Walken were decent. Got to hear Mr. T say "pity the fool" like three times (and tell Romo to shut up).

But who cares about the commercials. Thought that was a pretty great game from start to finish, myself. Started out with both teams getting some key stops, had a few big plays on both sides of the ball as well as special teams, a little trickery, and came down to the final possessions and who could step up at the end. I was halfheartedly rooting for SF bc of Mr. Irrelevant and CMC, but Mahomes showed once again, don't bet against him with the ball in his hands and the game on the line.

the glasses I'm looking through aren't tinted at all. Ever since the Super Bowl itself became a thing, commercialism glommed onto it and the league sold out to that and made it an event and not just a really potentially great football game. It's happened with all of sports, but the Stupor Bowl has taken the razzmatazz to ridiculous heights. Who cares? Hard not to care about the nonsense being stuck in your face when all you want is to enjoy some football.

I understand that you don't miss what you never had. Older guys like me miss how it used to be. It's always been about the greenbacks, but not everything was given up to the pursuit of them as it is now. The networks used to be satisfied with drawing in actual sports fans by offering good contests and enhancing them with good announcing and letting that speak for itself. Now they play to the goober more than the real fan.

great game…two really good defenses and really good play-callers on both sides…weird no-contact injury to greenlaw was a gigantic blow to the 49ers.

best part was the officials went almost unnoticed and that’s saying a lot considering the last few years the league has had.

I remember an era, maybe it was short, when people who didn't follow or care about fball at all would be interested in carving out time in their Sunday nite simply for the commercials (something witty, creative or involving puppies). Carb-fests and booze helped, but they'd ignore the game, then pause their convo for commercials. These days people will gorge then peace-out, or maybe hang around and keep gorging but aren't engaged in the commercials at all.

I agree that the game wasn't that good until late. Had to force myself to pay attention up until that point.

I only caught a glimpse early on but did they really start having WWE style player introductions?

The NFL in general is beginning to remind me of when WWF started bringing in Cindy Lauper, Mr. T, etc. I know I'm comparing wrestling and football but in some ways they are getting more similar.

Agreed. But I can't fault the marketers; humor has been cancelled over the last decade. Too many landmines out there to have to dodge if you're trying to be genuinely funny. The "Wazzup" commercials were deemed fratty out of touch humor, steeped in toxic masculinity, for crying out loud.

Not worth the potential blowback for doing anything that isn't milquetoast.

I have no idea how they tabulate this, but I have a hard time believing 200 million viewers unless there is a large amount of streaming beyond our borders being counted.

I would assume it is a worldwide number. It's played a lot around the globe. People will watch it overseas even if they aren't into football because it's such a big event. Same thing for the world cup.

Was the shooter a 49'rs fan? He should probably shoot the special teams player and coach instead of kids.

The order in which they should be shot:

Shanahan
Darrell Luter Jr.
Trent Williams
Deebo Samuel
Jake Moody
The refs

i thought the game sucked, for the most part. and everyone watching that knows football knew at halftime that SF was screwed. they should have been leading by at least 2 TD's. it was just a matter of time before Mahomes and crew figured it out. McCaffrey touched the ball 14 times in the 1st half and only 8 in the 2nd half - horrendous play calling.

-- there have been 2 OT's in Super Bowl history. Shanahan has had a 10+ point lead in both and lost both.

-- Mahomes is 3-1 in the Super Bowl when trailing by 10 or more points. all other Super Bowl QB's in history are 4-48 in that same position 😲😲

There’s a lot of jealousy being expressed in this thread. I’m not a big fan of hers but there’s no justifiable reason for denying that she’s a smart, talented lady.
Poking fun at her and the situation is perfectly understandable if not predictable. But I don’t get the hate. There’s so few entertainers who try to be positive role models for young girls. Next year we’ll have a player dating a woman who sings about her pu$$y being wet then we’ll appreciate swift more maybe.

Just curious, but how is she a positive role model for young girls? I mean, what specifically? Is it just that she's a famous pop singer and rich person?

Has anyone said they don't think she's talented? I don't think anyone has said that. As far as being smart, I've never met her and feel like interviews and videos of her cheering in a suite aren't great ways to judge someone's intelligence. I'm not saying she's stupid, just that I don't know if she is or not, so I make no judgement.

Try this for starters:

“Generosity: Blueprint to success

In a move that underscores her commitment to making a meaningful impact, Swift has allocated a jaw-dropping $55 million as bonuses, a chunk of which was distributed amongst her devoted team. A hundred thousand dollars each went to the fifty truck drivers who have been the unsung heroes behind the scenes. This act of largesse is a testament to Taylor Swift’s understanding of the value of giving back.

The concept of generosity as a leadership trait is an invaluable takeaway from Swift’s journey. With the kind of success she has achieved, her open-hearted approach to her fans, colleagues, and industry peers is a guiding light for leaders across fields.

While success might not be solely measured by benevolence, Swift’s actions underscore the notion that giving is a virtue that transcends mere success.”

Yeah, I'm here too. Maybe she is smart. But just because she's a billionaire doesn't necessarily mean that. Especially these days. Now all you have to be is popular. Now, one could argue she was smart enough to leverage her fame and I guess you could say that. But some people fall backwards into fortune and fame. I'm not saying she did.

I don't know her music. But from the way people describe it, it seems superficial and trite, which is the hallmark of today's culture. So from that perspective, I can't laud that.

Had no desire to watch even one minute of it. Heck, I’ve only seen one UNC game this year. This from a guy who was a sports junky most of my life and planned events around UNC games. Now I check to see if they won and that’s about it.

This is a fun yr for unc hoops. NCAA is changing rapidly so you should catch up via youtube condensed games or something and get on board while it is here.
