I do not think Hubert should be brought back, but in all likelihood he will be back. Now the question is he going to keep the same set of asst coaches? Even if he does, will it make any difference? I like to see some changes in coaching front.
As everybody should have learned with Mack Brown, the wrong hire as HC always has backers who want to blame it all on assistants. If we can get rid of the bad assistants and replace them well, then the HC will be proven a brilliant hire.I do not think Hubert should be brought back, but in all likelihood he will be back. Now the question is he going to keep the same set of asst coaches? Even if he does, will it make any difference? I like to see some changes in coaching front.
Hubert should not be brought back. HD becoming the first black head coach at UNC was done with good intentions but for all the wrong reasons. Roy would be responsible and accredited with bringing in the first black head coach, just as his mentor, Dean, brought in the first black player in Charlie Scott. It would be Roys sincere heartfelt tribute to Dean. This monumental event was so important to Roy that he called in this favor upon his departure. No greater honor for Roy than to be associated with Dean, none.I do not think Hubert should be brought back, but in all likelihood he will be back. Now the question is he going to keep the same set of asst coaches? Even if he does, will it make any difference? I like to see some changes in coaching front.
At times hard decision have to be made, to effectively manage you must identify weak spots and strengthen them. One real flaw in Hubert I have noticed, maybe it is changing a bit now, is he seems to feel it is vital for him to be friends with his players. Any effective manager will tell you that you simply must maintain a distinct line that is not crossed between the man in charge and those that report to him. The most common way a manager fails is being to close a friend to his charges. If Hubert intends on trying to become a decent coach then he needs to evaluate the program top to bottom and see changes need to be made. This includes if it’s the best for him to step down then do it. This storied program has fallen so far by it’s unbelievable.
Time to go! Love him as a person, as a head coach, he doesn’t have it.I love Hubert but certainly have questions about all aspects of his coaching--roster management, rotations, etc. Skill development also bothers me but the little I know about coaching, that is usually in the hand of assistants so I worry about them too. I think Hubert is astute enough to know the clock is ticking next year. I have said it before, I sometimes wonder if Hubert is too much the big brother instead of the daddy.
