‘Mando had a fair bit to say about the new-look team, especially the backcourt.

He said Cadeau/Davis could be as good as the ‘undersized’ pairing of Paige/Berry.

He also said Seth’s game has improved tons, describing his shot as “completely different”

Also mention of potential 5-guard lineups and the return of the secondary.

Take it for what it’s worth…. Mando is a pretty good hype-man, but it his positivity is a plus after last year.

Yeah well... let's hope that 5-guard deal is just Hubert hyperbolizing.
The REAL gem there is the Secondary, which if Hubert wants to keep his job, is a no-brainer.

Do we need to be fast to be successful at the secondary break? Serious question.

If so, are we fast enough?

I'm thinking back to when we had guys like Justin Jackson and Tyler Zeller who could streak to the basket, catch and score on the run. And guys to bring up the rear of the break who could hit from the top of the arc if the quick score wasn't there. Are those what we need? Do we have them?

I'd be grateful for a knowledgeable overview of the secondary break.

The Secondary is about execution --- getting in your lanes --- and dedication to it.

Big Z was exceptional in that he got down court so fast on releases that he turned it into a fast break when we got it to him (and if this season's 4/5 men run the floor with purpose, Cadeau will reward them), but generally the Secondary is using predetermined spacing to attack a retreating defense.

The perimeter guy (ideally PG) who gets the outlet (or busts out) pushes to the middle, while the other two perimeter guys hit wide lanes. The non-rebounding first Big out sprints to the hole (some call it "rim-running") then posts at the ball-side block, making himself available for the quick dump-down entry (either from the wing following a pitch-ahead or from the top or after a reversal). The second Big down is the last Trailer who stops around the key opposite the ball to be available for reversals, with the option to take an open outside shot (if he's capable), or make a Hi-Lo entry pass, or continue the ball reversal then dive to the post himself, or run a called perimeter PnR option (like "Slip"), or downscreen for an interchange, or execute a "Flex" screen for the other Big, etc etc).

One of the issues we've had the past two seasons is these "Stretch-4" guys acting like Wings and getting in the wide lane (Garcia was the worst culprit). The other issue has frankly been Hubert not having the first Big consistently continue to the block, instead stopping to initiate some high ball-screen (which kills the Secondary in its tracks) before we even can run any reversals

Obviously, there are several variations (some alluded to above) and called actions you can run off of the Secondary (which was Roy's calling-card in his heyday), BUT if you ain't pressuring the defense with the initial post action, welp... the whole thing becomes tits-on-a-boar-hog.
