Bracketology with Joe Lunardi

Today's Bracketology from Lunardi

South Region:
1 Carolina
2 Kentucky
3 Arizona
4 West Virginia

West Region
1 Gonzaga
2 Oregon
3 Butler
4 FSU

Midwest
1 Kansas
2 Louisville
3 UCLA
4 UVa

East
1 Villanova
2 Baylor
3 Duke
4 Florida

Am I wearing blue shaded glasses or holy crap does that not put 3 other massively dangerous teams in the Heels' bracket?

Some oddities I see:

West: Gonzaga would get Oregon as their #2, but wouldn't see them until the Regional Final. Butler as their #3 though and UCLA gets packed off to the Midwest Region.

Midwest: Lunardi did the Jayhawks no favors with ANY of their other top 4.

East: Duke a 3 seed?!? COME ON MAN! #4 at best and a #5 in my eyes! Baylor is dangerous, but again they wouldn't meet until the regional final. Notre Dame as their #5 could be dangerous considering their pace and space philosophy.

There is ZERO chance those are the pairings on selection Sunday.

Oh I know.... It is still food for thought and up for good natured debate. There is NO WAY that bracket should ever be considered to be shared by the so called "leading expert" on Brscketology though.

Think that's a relatively silly blanket statement. It depends on who we play obviously and how others do.

If kansas beats a murders row while we beat syracuse, Clemson, Boston College.

I assume Kansas would get it.

I've heard some analysts say, they think we should already be the 1 overall. This will just give them a justifiable reason to pull the trigger.

It doesn't matter that much to me, as long as we're a regional #1...sans west region.

Im confused as to how UCLA is a 3 but Gonzaga is a 1. The argument is that UCLA doesnt have that many quality wins. They beat Oregon and won at Arizona and Kentucky. Gonzaga's only impressive win was on a neutral court against Arizona when they only had 6 healthy scholarship players available

I've watched both reams play. Many teams could beat the 'Zags but the Bruins are very good and some say their defense is lacking.
Some games it is...

Zaga also beat St. Mary's twice (they were top 25), and still only have 1 loss. While I would rather play Gonzaga than UCLA, I understand how they get a 1. I don't think UCLA should be a 3 seed, but I buy them as a 2. Neither have the number of quality wins that UNC, Kansas, Nova, Duke, Louisville, Kentucky, and a number of others have. Hell, GT has as many good wins as UCLA or Zaga.

There is no "murders row" in that conference, ergo why KU has won the regular season for the last dozen years or so. And the chances of our opponents being the 3 you mentioned are slim to none and slim left town. IF we were to win the ACCT after winning the regular season, we would deserve the #1 seed, regardless of our opponents in the ACCT.

The ACC is hands down the toughest conference.

I'm gonna be pissed if they line us up against UK in Memphis.

I want no part of WVU.

The one team that makes me a little bit nervous is UCLA. They can score in bunches. And when we play teams that can score, we seem to forget about defense and just try to outscore teams. If we concentrated on the defensive end, I think we'd handle UCLA. But I could see us getting into a high scoring affair with them and that could prove trouble. That's what happened in Vegas when UK beat us. If we had decided to play defense like we can, it could have turned out differently. But we also didn't have Pinson and as we've seen, that's kind of a big deal.

Yeah, I mean I could see us as the 3rd #1 but IMO Villinova and Ks have earned the 1 & 2 spots.

Just dont place Duke in Gonzaga's region.

Pretty sure the NCAA will give duke yet another gift of a 4 seed but any other program would be looking at a 5 or 6 seed, which IMO is the kiss of death for NCAA deep runs. Wait and see, no matter where they lose in the ACCT, duke will be "given" a 4 seed in the NCAAT, I can only hope it is a tough bracket they end up in rather than the Kake walk they usually get.

Am I the only one dreaming of a dook vs. Cretin matchup this year? I mean, how much fun would it be for Whiplash McElbow to get his clock cleaned by that bunch of goons and to see St. Kay lose his junk over it?

As far as the tourney goes, I quit trying to figure them out years ago. I would be surprised if they didn't drop us into a region from hell just for shiites and giggles. They are all about matchups and getting people to watch the games, so they will likely put us somewhere with a team or two that plays to our weaknesses for the first weekend. After that, it is a crap shoot, so they try to load the brackets with the teams with the biggest following as best as they can. If they can do that and make it more difficult for us, I am sure they will. Just seems to play out that way more often than not.

Now, I don't buy into conspiracy theories about dook and their weak brackets, but they do seem to get a lot of easy ones when they are "down". Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they were to get a pretty easy shot at the sweet 16 this season. Still, I would LOVE to see them and Cretin go at it if for no other reason than to see which team blew it's cool on the other one. And to see Whiplash McElbow get pimp slapped on national TV.

duke has only 2 more losses than us. If we're being talked about as the overall #1 because we won "the toughest conference ever", I find it hard to follow the logic that has duke as a #6 when they only have 2 more losses than us, beat us, and had a more difficult conference schedule.

I think we're a 1 seed but only if we don't get upset in the first game of the ACCT. And I think duke is right now a 4 seed with a shot at a 3 seed.

WVU is a perfect matchup for us. They full court press which allows us to run uptempo all game. Would be a blow out in our favor if we played them.

Agree completely with this. I want no part of UCLA or Butler before the FF

UNC vs UCLA would be an NBA style game. The Over/Under would likely be the highest of the NCAA season. I literally had a dream recently that we play (and beat) them in the national title game.
