I think Jalek will absolutely be a 100% PG from day 1. Future depth charts show how much this makes sense:
2016: Berry (NBA), Britt (graduate), Woods (combo)
2017: Felton (Fr.), Woods (could start 1 or 2)... If Berry leaves these are the only 2 options
2018: Felton (So.), Woods (Jr.), Coby White (Fr.)...where these 3 slot in depends on their development, Leaky's too
Point being, if Felton isn't our PG for the foreseeable future we better hope that
1. Berry plays here as a Senior
2. Either Woods becomes a PG by 2018, or Coby/Leaky is one hell of a Freshman PG
I'm putting all my chips on 2017, 2018, 2019 PG: Jalek Felton
He'll play both but it is my impression that Roy has him tabbed as JB's successor at point, whenever JB leaves.Or will he be a combo.
Love the gif Space.... can't wait to see some of those flexes this coming season.I have said this before.... Jalek Felton reminds me a lot of a young Gilbert Arenas.
Pretty good comparison!!I have said this before.... Jalek Felton reminds me a lot of a young Gilbert Arenas.
He isn't super explosive but he is long , rangy , quick , and has the ball on a string. Similar size guys as well. Best when he is looking to score.Pretty good comparison!!

Interesting question, do you see Jalek more like Ray or more like Marcus?
Keep in mind Arenas was more a SG in college and was an early 2nd round pick. Perception for 6'3" scoring PG's has changed in the 15 years since.I agree. We can only hope that Felton materializes into the same caliber player.
I agree that Felton will end up being our PG but that wouldn't be my preference. I prefer traditional PGs. I would much rather have a PG average 10 assists than 20 points. But that's just me. But by the look of the roster and how it sets up over the next couple of years, as Ned explained, Felton looks to be the PG of the immediate future.
Just from the highlights Felton is a better PG than woods, if Berry leaves the job should be Feltons.
Don't under estimate 7th and especially him getting a year in the program before Jalek gets here.
Trust me I am expecting huge things from Woods, but I think he is the combo guard. I think Woods is a scorer and would fit better at SG/combo
Woods needs to be the one man fast break. Lawson got to a point in Roy's system that he was so fast nobody could catch him once he turned the corner or got a step on you during a break away. But if Woods wants to play at the next level he has to be a PG. Unless he can carve out a Eddie House/Nate Robinson scorer off the bench type niche.7th is an explosive athlete, he has ALL the tools to be a great PG, the thing for him is to gain the mindset of a PG, to look at the game as a PG and not a guard constantly looking to score himself. You can learn the mindset but the tools, well you have to be born with them.
If I were a betting man, I would put a pretty good bet that we'll see a lot of 7th and Jalek in the backcourt when Joel is gone. Which one gets called PG is harder to predict.Don't under estimate 7th and especially him getting a year in the program before Jalek gets here.

At this point in time, if we evaluate them as PGs, both look like score-first PGs and it isn't clear if either has the court generalship skill set that we and Roy like to see in our PGs. But they both apparently want to be PGs and they have plenty of time to develop the needed skills, if that's really in the cards for them. From just a few clips, Jalek may have a small edge, but what can you really tell from a few clips?
Based on Roy's offers in the 2017 class, he seems to think at least one of them will pan out as a really good PG - or else he'd probably have offered a couple of the pure PGs in the class rather than looking mainly at combos and SGs. Even in the 2018 class, the PGs we have (Black & White) aren't pure PGs. Which suggests to me that Roy is pretty comfortable with 7th and/or Jalek (and maybe even knows Joel will be here long enough to make sure one or both of them develops).
Some guys develop the handle and many of the other PG skills without showing the court vision and generalship we want in a PG. Dex as a senior, for example, had a best-on-team assist:TO ratio of 3.6:1. And he was certainly competent when called upon to play PG. But he never really seemed to have a PG's instincts.
Time will tell.
If he makes it to the nba, they will try to change that mindset to be a scoring PG lol
Well, let's be honest. Arenas wasn't really a PG in the NBA either. Ol' "Agent Zero" never saw a shot he wouldn't take.Keep in mind Arenas was more a SG in college and was an early 2nd round pick. Perception for 6'3" scoring PG's has changed in the 15 years since.
Not sure it will be that hard. PG is in Jalek's DNA (literally and figuratively). It showed in the UA finals this summer when Jalek took over point from Leaky in crunch time, restored order and brought home a come-from-behind win.If I were a betting man, I would put a pretty good bet that we'll see a lot of 7th and Jalek in the backcourt when Joel is gone. .
Gary did u catch the ua 24 game? He really shined with smart passing and killer instinct. He got others involved but yet showed out some also. Not sure it will be that hard. Yeah I did. Jalek was great but sadly that game had zero defense --- like NBA All-Star game zero-defense. AAU looked like ACC by comparison.Gary did u catch the ua 24 game? He really shined with smart passing and killer instinct. He got others involved but yet showed out some also.
True but by the time he was 26 he was riddled with injury and never was the same again. His prime was shortened to essentially about 3-4 years.Well, let's be honest. Arenas wasn't really a PG in the NBA either. Ol' "Agent Zero" never saw a shot he wouldn't take.

Yeah, and apparently he also had this thing about pulling guns on teammates and stuff...True but by the time he was 26 he was riddled with injury and never was the same again. His prime was shortened to essentially about 3-4 years.
He got the good end of the stick on that one. Crittenton was the one that is in the joint.Yeah, and apparently he also had this thing about pulling guns on teammates and stuff...![]()
Yeah, I guess that's true, but his NBA career was pretty much done after that.He got the good end of the stick on that one. Crittenton was the one that is in the joint.
