Welp. Just tuned in and the Heels trail 7-1 in the bottom of the 5th. The dookies got 2 runs in the 2nd, 4 in the 3rd, and 1 in the 4th.

Let's see if UNC can get something going here.

Quick 1-2-3 inning for the Heels at the plate. Wood Myers hit a deep fly ball to the wall, but a nice defensive play resulted in the second out of the inning. The other two batters grounded out.

7-1 bad guys, T6.

Re: dook vs. UNC Game 3 Thread

Good grief. Rice really struggles with control and walks the next two batters in only 5 pitches each. He's done.

Bases are loaded with 1 out. Heels in a deep hole, trying not to dig it deeper.

Re: dook vs. UNC Game 3 Thread

Freshman RHP Jason Morgan steps in to a tight spot here.

Shallow fly ball to CF, and Skye Bolt is able to hold the runners with a throw to the plate.

Bases still loaded, but now 2 outs with UNC trailing 7-1.

Re: dook vs. UNC Game 3 Thread

Base hit up the middle scores two more runs, but the batter is caught trying to take 2nd to end the inning.

The damage is done, though, and the Heels now face a 9-1 deficit at the stretch.

Re: dook vs. UNC Game 3 Thread

dook's pitcher Clark is still throwing 94-mph heaters here in the 7th and fans the last two batters. Just doesn't look like the Heels' day...or 24 hours.

9-2 bad guys, T8.

Re: dook vs. UNC Game 3 Thread

New pitcher for dook, but the Heels get nothing in the 9th and fall in the final game of the series 9-2.

UNC goes to 10-4 (2-1 ACC) on the season. Next game will be at Coastal Carolina on Tuesday at 4 pm. The Chanticleers have proven a more than worthy opponent in past seasons, so I hope the Heels will be ready to roll.

FROM UNC:

CHAPEL HILL --- Duke jumped on No. 11 North Carolina early and salvaged the series finale with a 9-2 win Sunday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. Bailey Clark allowed just one earned run in eight innings and Justin Bellinger drove in five runs for the Blue Devils, who improved to 11-3 on the year. Carolina, which won four times this week and sealed the series win Saturday, fell to 10-4.

Duke scored twice in the second to chase Carolina starter A.J. Bogucki, who was forced into the start with scheduled starter Benton Moss unavailable. The Blue Devils added four more in the third - all with two outs - against three Tar Heel relievers.

That was plenty of support for Clark, who needed just 104 pitches to go eight full innings. Mike Rosenfeld added three hits for the Blue Devils, who out-hit UNC 12-4 on the day after being outscored 14-3 in the first two games of the rivalry series.

Zack Gahagan hit his second home run of the week for the Tar Heels, who face another five-game week starting with a trip to Coastal Carolina on Tuesday.

Trevor Kelley, who pitched in all three weekend games, went 3.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits. Jason Morgan made his collegiate debut out of the Carolina bullpen, working the final 2.2 innings and allowing just two hits and no runs.
